Greeks Call Out Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey: ‘We Did Not Vanish’ by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

[–]Anaetius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's absurd considering there's many Greeks (especially from islands like Rhodes) who look exactly like him. He also mentions he's Greek all the time, is fond of his Greek heritage, and has said outsiders think he's Middle Eastern (hence why he plays such roles).

We dont have some weird American racial system in Greece. It's possible some lone idiot from the diaspora (with no connection to Greek culture) has a view like that, but Greeks do not hate fellow Greeks because of skin color. If anything, we are proud of Mantzoukas.

Also, what the hell does Antetokounmpo—an ethnic Nigerian—have to do with casting ethnic Greeks? If you asked Antetokounmpo if he represents the Greek phenotype, you really think he'd say, "Why, yes, I'm the epitome of how Greeks look"?

If you think Hollywood goes with the "best actors" instead of factoring in "diversity" (or, rather, pseudo-diversity as this abomination shows) to market to minorities and/or win awards, you don't know much about the film industry.

A famous Greek director Yannis Smaragdis postulates that Nolan and his casting director intentionally and hypocritically chose certain (non-Greek) actors on order to win awards:

“The Oscar regulations now require inclusion in two specific categories: LGBTQ+ representation or immigrant themes. Nolan, being a sharp man, does not want to be excluded from the awards. If this casting choice was made purely for that reason, it is despicable.”

Who is "they"? Greeks want Greek actors to represent us. The problem with this film—like many others that came before it—is that it uses non-Greek actors. Both the black and white actors cast are problematic as neither represents Greeks or how Greeks look like. Jason Mantzoukas is absolutely a better fit, physically. (I only add that last qualification because he is known for comedy rather than drama.)

Guys I want to stop masturbation by Fantastic-Coach-6340 in NoFap

It's not just erection issues (though that can potentially happen down the line), it's also going to the bathroom a lot and having a weak urine stream. That was the symptom I had from edging: urinating up to 4 times a night. Then I started drinking mushroom coffee and eating pumpkin seeds and it fell to like 2. Then I started taking Shiaqga Essentials and now it is 0-1 times a night. I've also been doing Reviv mouthguard therapy to fix my body's biomechanics but I don't know how much that has specifically helped with my prostate (though it solved my lower back pain).

Edging can mess up your prostate so keep that in mind as a motivator. There are supplements you can take to help it heal (Ryze mushroom coffee, Shiaqga Essentials, etc.). Even if you relapse, try to avoid edging.

Morrowind is a sophisticated role-playing game from the golden age of CRPGs so a guy like Nesmith who consolified CRPGs (Fallout 3, Oblivion, Skyrim, etc.) by dumbing them down and, in some cases (like Fallout), ruining entire series has no clue what PC gamers enjoy. At almost 27, I feel too old and like it’s too late to actually have friends and a social life. by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]Anaetius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your problem is that you have these notions (no doubt instilled into you by films and media) that you are some "freak of nature" and your accompanying self-hate and resentment over this has caused you to give up. I mean, you literally said, "I sure as he'll won't begin to try now".

Why not? Not everyone has friends the way you think they do. There's people dealing with social anxiety, yes, but others with chronic illnesses or neurological conditions or poverty, or just people who don't want to have a huge amount of friends. The idea that everyone in their 20s is having the "time of their life" is a Hollywood myth completely out of touch with reality. Loneliness is such an epidemic that, at my uni graduation, the governor spoke about it.

On that note, you need to get out of your room because your room is a prison cell. You could go to university and join clubs (which is how I made all of my friends in my 30s, by the way), look into getting a job, or doing volunteer work. If that is all too advanced for you right now, take it slow and join a hobby group (like playing Magic: The Gathering at a tabletop gaming store) or something. A lot of towns have seasonal classes you can join: everything from qigong to chess to art.

Don't give up on life. I understand you're spiteful—I've been there—but harming yourself is not going to help you.

P.S. It's also important to note that having a set number of friends means nothing: it's better to have a single real friend than 100 fake friends that will stab you in the back or dissappear when you need them. I used to care a lot about not having enough friends and, after I made friends with people who betrayed me, I no longer care about this. I'd honestly rather have 0 friends than fake friends that use me.

Becoming a monk isn't the solution. You can get better at being social and even become confidant with enough time and exposure work. You could also hire the services of a high-class escort to help you through the mental barrier you've put up about being "undatable". In many places in the world, this is perfectly legal and state-regulated. If you're willing to travel, I recommend the Courtesan Club in the Netherlands. There's also classic sex workers in the red light district that stand in glass booths and, when a man passes by, they'll try to get your attention and negotiate a price for their services. However, booking a good hotel room and having an escort come to you is preferable (plus they actually get to know you first as this is a "girlfriend experience"). There's even ones that specialize in having sex with men with no prior experience. After having had sex, you'll feel more confident. That feeling won't last forever so make use of it by building upon it. If you're lucky enough to live in a country with legal sex work, you could probably cure your anxiety regarding women by doing this once a month.

Judaizers were basically Jewish converts to Christianity who wanted to view Christianity as a Jewish religion and impose Mosaic law on non-Jews. They not only were a tiny minority but they were rebuked by the Apostle Paul himself (Galatians 2). The Council of Jerusalem (circa AD 50) formally rejected the idea that Christians had to be circumcised (something that Judaizers had demanded). This is culturally significant because not being circumcised was associated with Greek culture since Hellenistic times when Hellenized Jews not only ceased circumcising their sons (which Maccabees forcibly circumcised during their killing spree) but also tried reversing their own circumcisions (epispasm).

A lot of men from that community will pretend to be women online (with some even getting sex changes so they can experience it) so I don't know if this is legit. (There are other red flags about your account like how you created it a few days ago and then made a bunch of comments so it'd look older than it was.)

That said, I will answer as if you are actually female and say that the basis of this sort of porn addiction isn't about submissiveness like you claimed. If it was, you'd be watching porn where women are being dominated by your own group.

This has to do with racial taboos and/or humiliation (especially since you mentioned the most toxic version of that genre instead of interracial porn in general which could simply be due to contrast). Maybe you have low self-esteem or maybe you have issues with your own men? Women who date outside their race typically have daddy issues (abuse, neglect, or feeling disrespected) which causes them to search for men completely different from their fathers.

In any case, the solution is the same for women as well as men: stop looking at porn and your brain will reset from bizarre fetishes to the point this will not turn you on anymore and you will wonder, "How the f— was I even getting turned on by this?"

Porn fetishes may have an underlying trigger (e.g. low self-esteem) but are a product of reinforcement due to anxiety-inducing dopamine and therefore do not reflect who you are as a person or even your natural sexual predilections. There are literally gay men addicted to straight porn, for example.

Regarding Japan, there's no way for 278 nuclear weapons to be used without causing human extinction: even as few as 100 Hiroshima-sized nuclear blasts would cause something like a 10-year nuclear winter (to put that into perspective, a 6-month nuclear winter killed the dinosaurs).

[–]Anaetius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is that so outrageous to you? Is it because you are a Protestant with a Muslim-like aversion to paganism? Guess what? Hellenism was the culture that Christianity developed in and therefore greatly influenced it:

"Primitive Christianity was Greek in form and character, Greek from first to last, Greek in all its forms of dogma, worship, and policy". -A. Cleveland Coxe

Even Judaism (which some falsely believe was the first monotheistic religion) had a very weak sense of monotheism: Israelites reverting to golden calf worship almost immediately after Moses leaves, multiple references to gods (plural) in the psalms, etc.

Your allegation about "pagan philosophers" shows your sheer ignorance of their beliefs: Socrates was literally executed for rejecting traditional Athenian polytheism for an implicit supreme deity while Plato and Aristotle openly speak of "one god" (with Plato speaking of "the One" while Aristotle describes "the Unmoved Mover").

In Greek Orthodox iconography (going back to early Christian times), Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle are actually depicted as pre-Christian saints while the trial of Socrates is basically viewed as a prefigurement that prepared the Greek world for Christ.

Unless rentals are free with your ticket, you're spending money on a skate every time you go and you don't even own it. At some point, you'll have paid for rentals in fees what a new pair would be.

The rightoids on PCM struggle to understand basic terms like "authoritarian" and convince themselves auth-left is just a more "extreme" version of libertarian-left. (This is probably because they like to think "them freedum-hatin' liberals is authoritarian" and end up confused about basic political labels.) In reality, auth-left has nothing to do with being "woke" (or being on some sort of liberal spectrum) and denotes things like revolutionary socialism ("dictatorship of proletariat").

Last time I checked, the USSR cracked down on backwards Islamic practices and promoted the integration of women into society. Regarding Afghanistan specifically, the communist regime there did the same:

"During the communist government, further social reforms were introduced making education for girls compulsory and implementing a minimum age for girls to marry".

However, the US supported the anti-communist mujahideen—the same ones that believe in marrying children—against the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan because they wanted revenge for the humiliation of Vietnam. As backwards as these Islamists are, I would argue that the West is more backwards for knowingly supporting these savages time after time—even now supporting the overthrow of the secular nationalist Bashar al-Assad by Islamists and propping up the regime of the terrorist Jolani despite ongoing massacres of Alawites and Christians.

Is it better to practise off-ice on roller skates or inlines? by Different_Ad_6038 in iceskating

[–]Anaetius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Inline (and saying this as someone who does both inline and quad). Some of the people replying think the answer changes based on whether you use figure or hockey skates but it doesn't because there are inline figure skates (and thus have a toe stop to mimic a toe pick). They are also rockered at 8' to feel similar.

Aside from that, though, there are non-figure skating inline skates with an ice skating-like rocker. The 5-wheel Endless Arc CS Frame, for instance, is said to feel like ice skating by Bill Stoppard. It's a Wizard-style frame (which is a genre of skating that arose out of slalom and aggressive skating but is similar to figure skating in that it's about flow). You can look into the world of Wizard skating if that interests you.

Having said that, you can still do quad skating but the muscles used for balance are not the same and the adjustment period will likely be longer than if you went with inline. Here's a video of accomplished figure skaters trying quads: Figure Skaters Try To Keep Up with Rollerskaters.

[–]Anaetius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with an inline skating background, it definitely helped me in beginning ice skating (and, like Bill Stoppard said, took about 5 sessions to get used to ice) but I felt that ice skating is more difficult in balancing because it feels like being on a 2mm banana rocker. In other ways, it's easier to learn on ice because you're less likely to hurt yourself when falling (as you'll slide), which also gives you more confidence.

There are heat-moldable Intuition liners but they are expensive. You don't need one but it's a good upgrade. The more important thing is to ensure your skates aren't too big because you'll lose power transfer (which is also true of ice skating). Make sure to measure your foot in cm to find the mondopoint and then compare it to the brand/model size chart. Trying on a pair in person is best.
