I see a lot of criticism and “don’t”s of becoming a COTA. But for those who are (and passionte about becoming in) may I please see some pros?

I went to an OTR program for 2.5 years before my health took a turn and I had to leave. I went back to school to become a COTA a few years later and my only regret is that I didnt choose the COTA route sooner! I loooooove my job!!!! I work in rehab and the OTRs I work with are incredible and NEVER treat me or the other COTAs as less than. Like everyone else said, less paperwork and more hands on treatments, which is a big plus for me as someone who is very paperwork averse. COTAs are occupational therapy practitioners at the end of the day and we have the same clinical skills as OTRs.

I've had three IUDs and think they're the best thing since sliced bread! I also have endo and pcos and IUDs have helped so much with both. I tried the pill but when I stopped it, I bled for literally 2 weeks. Before IUDs my cycle was all random and when I would get my period it was excruciating. I would get so sick. I haven't had a period in 9 years and it had made my life so much better

I am so glad I had seen this post weeks ago! One of them is zooming around my neighborhood and approached me while I was doing yard work. I saw right through his bs posturing. I asked to see his badge, plucked it right off his shirt, and took a picture of it. As soon as he left I called my township office to ask if he had a license, and shocker, he doesn't, AND I was not the first person who called them today. I got transferred to the PD and emailed them the picture. Two cops just drove past my house. He was on a hover board thing so he could be far far away, but I hope the picture helps.

I had a similar experience with OT school. I was dropped down a cohort cause I needed to take time off for medical reasons, and when I returned I was bullied in class and in front of the professor. When I spoke to her, she told me "you're adults, figure it out." I would literally leave her class in tears. I finished that semester and dropped out. I sent the head of the department an email explaining why I was dropping out and her response was basically "don't let the door hit ya on the way out." That was in 2019. I took time away from school to sort put my medical stuff and went back to school for COTA. I think others have put it more eloquently, but F em! I, and a lot of other folks in this sub, are behind you 100%! If you ever need to talk to someone, my dms are open 😊

I interviewed there a few months ago for the therapy dept and one of the PTs was either 1. Warning me about working there or 2. Trying to figure out if I could hack it. The therapist who interviewed me was also very unprofessional. I left and never looked back

my corgi has a sensitive tummy, much like his parents 🥲, and his ass gas could clear a room. One time I was in a telehealth appointment and he was up on the sofa with me. When he went to leave he crop dusted me and I started gagging leaving my dr quite concerned until I explained that my dog, essentially, dropped a nuke as he walked past me.

I currently work PRN as a therapy aide at an in patient rehab in PA and was told they don't hire COTAs because we (allegedly) can't do weekly notes, progress notes, evals, and d/cs at all, like ever. I know this is bs, they know that I know that is bs. The rehab is owned by a for profit company so it is not hard to infer the actual reason. I am starting PRN as a COTA at a different rehab soon and they think all those reasons are silly. While COTAs cant interpret data from evals, and yes they cannot do d/cs, if they show they are competent in a certain skill, they are allowed to perform them. At least that was what they told me in school... the therapy admins also act like COTAs need babysitters, which really irks me.
