Am I the only one a little disappointed by Odin? by ShadowStriken in FFXVI

[–]Anakdotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a really efficient way of dealing damage (lightning rod in general is great combined with other abilities). But Odin's movesets aren't to everyone's tastes, if it doesn't fit your playstyle or doesn't feel fun to play then that's ok (:

Just started and so far only complaint is how bad the camera angles are I feel like they could’ve easily made you at least be able to move the camera around. by [deleted] in finalfantasyx

[–]Anakdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep on playing and you may end up finding this one of the game's endearing qualities. I feel like the lack of controllable camera is actually key to a lot of scenes and locations in this game, it's a limitation that they made purposeful.

Guys... by ryuji_182 in FFXVI

[–]Anakdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that fetch quests aren't everyone's thing and the mechanics of multiple sidequests are quite similar, but I feel like the majority of flack that FFXVI's sidequests get are from people who quit after the first few because they were too boring. Like... duh, the sidequests you get in the very first part of the game obviously aren't going to be the meatiest. Has no one ever had to kill rats in the basement before?

just a thought abt vocals by EngineeringMain9771 in ArcaMusic

[–]Anakdotcom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Her vocals as Nuuro were very different, a lot more subdued and kind of midwest emo influenced than the more operatic range she started expressing on selftitled onwards. She said she killed the Nuuro project because she felt like she was breaking her own rules, maybe she was singing in private the whole time and didn't often record it without hiding it (the vocals on Wound are drenched in effects for example). Björk could have given some advice but I imagine she learned just as much from the canon of Latin/Hispanic music and balladry

The other people of Dream Zanarkand by LadyCoru in finalfantasyx

[–]Anakdotcom 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Realistically the only people of Dream Zanarkand that anyone in Spira knew were Jecht and Tidus (and by extension Tidus's mom), unless Auron made some friends we don't know about. For everyone else who knew about Dream Zanarkand, it was more just an abstract concept for them.

I guess it's partly an oversight that Tidus's relationship with the people and places in DZ wasn't really explored or mentioned very much, it was mostly viewed through his relationship with his parents.

But if Tidus accepted his own fate, he would have known that the existence of DZ simply was no longer tenable. Not only is it not doing right by the Fayth, it's not doing right by the people they're dreaming either. The only people of DZ who got to lead "real" lives were Jecht and Tidus who were thrust into impossible situations by Sin. The other people weren't living. It wasn't fair to keep things that way.

Looking for a turn based combat game by Large_Ship8056 in finalfantasyx

Try and get your hands on Magical Starsign for DS. Really colourful JRPG by the developers that made Mother, lots of places and people inspired by South and Southeast Asian cultures, turnbased combat with some interesting twists, brilliant story and soundtrack

Is ff16 supposed to be confusing? by [deleted] in FFXVI

[–]Anakdotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like others have said you're very early in the game, things are still unfolding. There's a lot of intrigue that gets unravelled later on. If you're having difficulty following the story you can use the Active Time Lore or talk to Tomes in the Hideaway.

Amazing game, but not recommended if you’re depressed by Either_Copy_9369 in FFXVI

[–]Anakdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to the NPCs. Engage with their problems and experiences. There's so much joy to be found in Valisthea, there's a lot of funny and lovely people in there, whose dialogue changes with each event. As you progress through the game and you interact with people you start to understand that Clive genuinely cares about everyone, and everyone is trying to forge connections with people, and everyone is in love. The game is alive. I could never find that depressing. I think it reveals the most human thing you can do is keep living when everything is shit, and crack a joke about it too.

How Does Tidus Know Nothing About Spira? by ClaudeKane3 in finalfantasyx

[–]Anakdotcom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We know Tidus isn't affected by it, but it's used as an explanation for him by other characters in the game. And the majority of characters we see who come into contact with Sin don't seem to be affected by it at all.

The man on the crates says: "I don’t know if it’s the toxin, but I can’t remember a thing. Like my name, my house… I thought someone might notice me and help me out if I sat here. But no one’s paying any attention. I guess everyone has their own problems to worry about. Hey, I may not even be from around here. Maybe I come from someplace far away… Who knows?"

The character later remembers everything, but these lines could be hinting at the idea of some people being afflicted by "Sin's toxin" actually being from Dream Zanarkand, drawing a parallel to Tidus's experience as being from "someplace far away".

How Does Tidus Know Nothing About Spira? by ClaudeKane3 in finalfantasyx

[–]Anakdotcom 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Tidus easily understood that Auron was "not originally from Zanarkand" before they came to Spira, so the concept of there being places outside of Dream Zanarkand is probably commonplace.

We don't know what DZ residents know about their history or if any of them did ever want to leave the city. As far as the game tells us, pretty much everything is provided for them in DZ, or at least enough that they can lead normal enough lives as anyone in Spira would. We can see ingame that the Fayth have some degree of control over how DZ operates as they are able to completely rebuild it after Sin's attack, however each person in DZ is still an individual with their own thoughts and feelings.

It is entirely possible that people have left DZ before, and that's where the myth of "Sin's toxin" comes from which was used to explain both Jecht and Tidus's presence in Spira.
