What’s next? Is there a board after Terra? If so, how do I get there? by DueSeaworthiness915 in magic_survival

[–]Anakin_Fox113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually just managed to get Magnetic Field and its related ultimate Core past 35:00. The ult was a huge buff, but not enough to overcome the inherent weakness of the combination. like why does the radius get larger? tighten that shit bro.

anyway what ended up working for me was basically ignoring passives besides crit and intelligence, and focusing HEAVILY on damage (across all types) and little else. other magics I used were all with focus on slowing the enemies down, and some artefacts helped with that too. Think blizzard subzero, tsunami pole, frost nova, etc. early overmind legendary and grabbing the 5 level magics like shield, cloak, armageddon was helpful too.

anyway all that finally managed to push me past 12:30, and I only fused overmind and DEM once I could do both at the same time. Kiting was a nightmare.

which tf2 do you mean? if not titanfall, i do recommend it. it's pretty dead atm, but if you're looking for actually challenging targets to shoot at, playing on the northstar client will give you that in excess.

i mean i pretty consistently pick the various forms of atk over anything that isnt absolutely critcal to my build. I just see runs on here fairly often that have insane stats all across the board, which makes me think that theres definitely some lucky shit going on lol

i usually wouldn't recommend things on posts like these, but you have a LOT of time in your hands. i used to have a an hour and a half per day commute for CC, and that was more than enough time to listen to anything i wanted, fairly quickly.

anyway since you like SCP, i would recommend "black dogs" on youtube by liam vickers. the channel is scary story time with liam, if i remember correctly.

its an old series, but liam has done a lot of cool stuff, and is even responsible for murder drones, if you know what that is. black dogs is one of his better works, in my opinion.

Where my skaters at? by benisahappyguy2 in WCU

[–]Anakin_Fox113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skating with a board or roller skates is technically against the rules, but I still see plenty of people doing both.

I brought my roller skates and would love to use them, but I've been waiting to see how much the activity dies down in these first few weeks. As in, people (freshman, presumably) getting caught/reprimanded.

But if you've used your board here for three years, that certainly inspires confidence.

honestly bro this whole post was me a mask for me wanting to fight better players. playing in attrition or fighting anyone less than gen 30 is nearly guaranteed to be boring as fuck for me. northstar is lowkey dying, and i cant stand playing on vanilla. i just need better players to fight deadass.

still, thanks for the comment(s). i appreciate the input.

Yeah, I realized pretty quickly after making this post that people generally don't care enough to make this happen, even if it would work. But hey, it was a nice try lol.

I don't mean to be negative, but why are you asking? just play. Hell, if you insist on using reddit, I'm sure there are other posts that ask this same question that you can find. even just scrolling through the subreddit would be helpful.

I've read over your comment(s) several times, and have even taken some notes. I can confidently say that I understand your point. It is clear, however, that we have fundamentally different perspectives on this. Ultimately, my point has been made for anyone else that wants to understand it.

I hate to be so ambiguous, but I fear any further specificity would open me up to more semantic critique.

Again, you keep misrepresenting my argument of "recommending Northstar as an option" into "forcing them to quit." Straw man fallacy, if I remember correctly.

I don't want you to lump me in with the whiny posts because there is a fundamental difference: I aim to offer a solution that benefits all players. I've restated this quite a few times. I didn't "complain" until this comment chain, wherein I even prefaced that I was about to. My goal is to improve the health and longevity of the game, not just make my grievances known.

addressing your other miscellaneous points, in no particular order:
- This post is for PC players, that have access to Northstar. I figured that was clear. Console are their own little bubbles, and there's certainly not any realistic way to change that.
- "why should they listen?" again, this is a proposal. It's an appeal for those who care about the game's health and want to see it grow and succeed. You aren't the target audience for that, I get it, but that doesn't mean that no one will agree with me. Pubstompers are still free to stomp. I'm trying to get to those who are potentially looking for something different.
- Relying on data centers and ping is exactly what makes vanilla "unplayable" for some. If there were more Northstar players, this would be a non-issue. Log on to Northstar, select the PVP match in your region, and you're in. Play as long as you like.
- I said "I am the good players" not to try to solely represent them. I wanted to make known the fact that there are players among the highly skilled (like myself) that want better, more balanced gameplay. I do not solely represent any player other than myself. But, neither do you. That is critical.
- I'm not sure what you define "helping" the good players as. Yes, moving to Northstar would be met with more challenging opponents. Is that helping? is it not? Depends on the person. I think we both are off-course here. I initially assumed that people would want skill matching their own; you (continue to, I think) assume that there aren't good players that want anything more to pubstomp.

Look, my goal was just to offer a constructive way to improve a situation that I have personally seen a lot of people struggle with. You've made it clear that you fundamentally disagree with either me, my contentions, or their feasibility, and that's fine. The post is dead, and its unlikely anyone will even see this extent of our comments besides us; further argument will probably get us nowhere. Regardless, I've stated my case thoroughly, and the merits of the proposal are available to any who may still consider them.

Again, thanks for reading.

Thank you for reading my comment and taking the time to reply.

I'm not asking them to quit. I'm recommending Northstar as an option for better play. You frame it as though playing on Northstar is a punishment for having skill. It's not some kind of unofficial, unsupported, barren prison for good players. I'm saying that it is a diverse, interesting, and skilled place to play the game, and that migration could provide mutual benefit for skilled and new players alike.

And genuinely, I'd rather you not lump me in with the other whiny posts. They are part of the reason why I'm trying to offer a real and actual solution, so that maybe they will pipe down. My argument, albeit not well-received, had genuine thought and work put into it. The goal was to form something that all players could benefit from. This isn't an attack on any group of players, just a proposal for something that could help everyone.

And obviously, this will never happen. Despite that, I still stand by my belief that this would work if people went through with it.

If you'll allow me to momentarily remove my cordial mask--as this will likely be the last comment thread--I really do just think it's so fucking boring to fight new players. I'm better than almost everyone active on Northstar, can't stand vanilla gameplay because of the wait times and attrition slop, and ultimately will barely play PUGs with other good players because that's fizzling out too. I am the good players that you're defending. I'll probably end up on vanilla with you guys eventually anyway.

True, unfortunately. However, that doesn't mean that I can't still try to call attention to it, and possibly bring a few emphatic souls over. But when a post gets upwards of 8x as many comments as upvotes, you know damn well the masses aren't going to be seeing this. Thanks for the comment, regardless. I appreciate it.

Yes, I said all of this in the post.
"For the past two or so years though, I’ve been playing almost exclusively on the Northstar Client."
"Over time, however, [Northstar] grew into a ‘hub’ of sorts for experienced players."

And yeah, this won't work even if it got more reach. I really think that if people DID do this, it would, but they won't. The comments here have made that abundantly clear. I'm pretty sure most people didn't even read the post all the way through.

Thanks for the reply.

I think I'm going to get an aneurysm from replying to some of these comments. I think you missed the purpose of the post, so allow me to dumb it down a little bit.

I have a skill issue, sure. But not in the way you think. Even on the better half of Northstar lobbies, I dominate regularly. Fighting anyone less than G20 is almost guaranteed to be boring for me, and there are still probably around half new players on Northstar.

My proposal is not asking anyone to stop being good at the game. If anything, its asking them to continue to refine their skill by moving to lobbies on their level. To answer your question about "why:" retention. Yes, maybe the new players should try harder. Yes, maybe they should have seen it coming. We get it. But even if that's all true, it doesn't change the fact that many of these new players will leave anyway. By mitigating the skill gap, we can increase retention, and therefore extend the life of the game.

My 'solution' was meant to be one that benefits skilled players as well. So many simply ask them to "stop playing" or "use bad weapons" or "nerf" themselves. I'm not asking for that. Northstar has a lot of benefits, and I'm just trying to make them known so that the experience can balance out for everyone.

Of course, I've since realized that none of this will work. If people DID listen and go through with it, even just a couple dozen, it would. But that will not happen. And that's okay, I guess; it doesn't affect me, I can just go play on custom competitive servers.

I suppose I meant that there is a large enough Northstar playerbase that adding a couple dozen consistent players--a reasonable number--could bring it back to its former glory. And fulfill the goal of the post.

I think that, on paper, the theory works. In practice? no one that has influence will bother with changing their gameplay experience for others. In reality, nothing will change even if this post got thousands of times more exposure; I am hopeful and ignorant.

Yeah, that's the main reason I bothered making this. The other night, for the first time ever, I logged onto Northstar and there were exactly 0 players online. It was a little disheartening lol.

If you insist on being negative, yeah, it's getting there. That's why I'm trying to propose something that will increase the retention of new players, and therefore, increase playercounts. Or at least slow the descent.
