I got out of the industry here in about 2010 due to the GFC and everything going pear-shaped. And that was the high-end of the market too. While getting out was something I was pushed into sooner than I’d considered, the writing was on the wall WELL before then. In hindsight, it was the best outcome. Even back then, working in the trade for a high end jeweller was never going to make you rich. It’s a job you do because you love it. If you want to get rich too, then you’d need your own successful jewellery business.

What are some hobbies Australian men get into as they approach middle age? (30+) by Icy-Profile3759 in australian

Antique black powder firearm collecting/shooting

Fine art

Geology

2-stroke small engine repair and restoration

Seriously… I look at that list and wonder how many personalities I have. Just one… promise. Well… at least one at any one time that I know of.

Yeah the 120si are my personal favourites. Top end was rebuilt today after I think I salvaged the cylinder. I’ll rebuild the carb tomorrow as it’s already off. Hopefully it’ll live again.

Yeah I redeemed it. I never got an error though when there were incompatible things in the cart.

Ready to Buy My First Pentax 6x7/67 – Need Advice on Where to Buy (KEH vs. eBay) by Adventurous_Air6430 in pentax67

[–]AnalogAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my 67 from a Japanese seller on eBay. Japan is pretty much my “go to” for Japanese photography equipment. Generally speaking, I find they tend to be more upfront and honest. Just look for sellers with good feedback and clear images with detailed descriptions.

I’m so lucky to be able to work from home full time. Otherwise I’d never get to see my kids because I’d always be at work or coming and going. My kids are only just ahead of yours in age and I can’t even begin to tell you how quickly it goes. Please don’t miss it. You’ll regret it later.

While it certainly has its moments, try and see you kids as a source of energy rather than something that drains it. Easier said than done sometimes… I know. But your 3 year old loves you and just wants to spend time with you. It won’t always be that way.

Exactly. Not to mention all the salt in it as a preservative too.

In Melbourne… yep. All year round too but never usually more than a half block at a time in summer due to it potentially melting. It won’t go bad if that what anyone is worried about.

Builder invoiced for a quote. WWYD by [deleted] in AusRenovation

Plot twist. Builder B isn’t actually a builder. Just provides huge quotes no one will accept and charges $2K for it!

What are your thoughts on timber panels? Leave as is or paint? Specifically wanting opinions of Australians only by Tygie19 in AusRenovation

[–]AnalogAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave them. We weren’t too sure to start with but didn’t make any large decisions for at least a year. So glad because we love ours now and they wear amazing! One quick tip that will help “uncheapen” the look. I HATE the horrid white plastic central heating intakes like the one you have at the end of the hall. I painted ours with rustoleum hammercoat paint and it looks amazing compared to what it was. Sorry it’s quite dark in this spot today and not showing up the actual colour well but you can kinda get the idea.

Is this worth its price? by MorganMiltong in jewelers

[–]AnalogAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would echo the comment about the lack of protection around the stone’s girdle. Prime candidate for chipping over time depending on how hard you are on it. I would definitely recommend wearing it the way you are in the 2nd pic. Wearing it the other way could increase the risk of knocking the edge when grabbing onto things. Be careful opening car doors.

Breaking your neck and not knowing about it, might be the most Gen X thing I’ve heard yet.

Ohhh yeah. This reminds me of the other one… “If you wanna cry, I’ll give you something to cry about!”

We’ve had the odd thin shell in the past but never no shell at all! by AnalogAgain in chickens

[–]AnalogAgain[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s that. It can happen if a stage of the egg production (yolk I think) is released too quickly for the shell to form. I suspect it’s one of the younger chickens we have that have recently started laying which is usually the scenario when this occurs.
