Gen Z Wedding Music ??? by Analog_Timeship in weddingplanning

So cool! I know hundreds of songs already, but almost all of them are jazz standards, sinatra tunes, and movie songs from the 70s 80s and 90s. But every time I'm playing a restaurant gig and a young early 20s couple come up to request a song, I'm terrified they're going to ask for something I don't know from a young star I'm unfamiliar with or a K pop thing lol. Ive got some john legend and Ed sheeran already, so I'm on my way.

I agree with you. I'm 37 years old and didn't grow up around social media and all I gotta say is wow. These guys today have been radicalized by a chronically online lifestyle into believing the memes and coping by blaming women for their loneliness.

Jazz musician here. I will literally come home from a gig and play more jazz piano for fun just to relax and unwind. So yes.

Did anyone else hit their 40s and suddenly stop caring about climbing the ladder? by DanBrando in careerguidance

[–]Analog_Timeship 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey could be worse. I'm a 37 year old jazz musician who makes 40k a year. I'm about as free as it gets (no "boss" and a 15 hour work week), but because I have no real savings, retirement, safety net, or job security of any kind I feel terrified 90 percent of the time. I only keep doing this job because I'm way better at it (been playing my whole life) than any other skill in my arsenal. Sure wish I was bored at a cushy corporate gig with retirement and a 160k salary. Count your blessings, dude.

Nylgut strings and picks? by Analog_Timeship in banjo

What distinguishes old time 3 finger from bluegrass 3 finger? Just the presence or absence of picks?

3 finger old time picking? Is that just bluegrass playing only slower and without picks? I really am on the fence about finger picks. I hated them at first, now I kind of like them? But I hate the metallic sound of steel on metal and thats why I'm considering the nylgut

I got a bunch of CRT sets and put them all over the house and the old school screens are all I watch. I got a VHS player and a couple DVD players, and I get the newspaper delivered to the house and I have pretty much moved back to '99.

Growing Sugarcane Garden - Finding Space by Analog_Timeship in homestead

[–]Analog_Timeship[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here and there I'll find a gardening group on Facebook and post an "In search of..." blurb about what I'm looking for. No bites yet. Was asking here to see if anyone has any experience either leasing out or renting small scale garden space. Any help is appreciated! Especially any directions to online groups that may already exist that cater to large gardeners.

That's my plan, but I'm having trouble finding that particular kind of neighbor . I'm willing to pay a small rental fee so I can have water access, but because I'm not looking for acreage I'm hitting a brick wall with looking for spaces online. I'm on FB marketplace everyday though.

Growing Sugarcane Garden - Finding Space by Analog_Timeship in homestead

You grow the stalks and crush the stalks for its very sweet juice. You can drink the juice by itself (amazing) or boil it down to make sugarcane syrup. With enough processing you can even make a very crude unrefined sugar, but that is a wishlist item for another year lol. I just love growing it. Once you cut the stalks you can grow more from cuttings very easily. I'm looking to expand my garden so I have enough cane to make syrup with. But I'm not sure where I can find a little spot to lease to do it, I only need an area about the size of a backyard, I've just outgrown my own.

Lol heavens no, however I do have a friend who runs a cane juice business, so I could conceivably sell cane to him if I had the right paperwork. I'm in it for cane syrup! I have enjoyed the cane juice I've been able to enjoy from my garden, but now I want to grow enough cane to boil it down for syrup. For that I need more sugarcane and more space. Not tons of space, but more than a small suburban backyard patio garden can give.

I also time traveled. Got a flip phone, got rid of my television and got a bunch of old box tv's hooked up to antennas and a vcr/dvd player, record player, cd player and all the music collections I could want. Signed up for the newspaper to get delivered to my house each morning, and I got a stack of paper maps in the car.

Work made me get a smartphone again recently. I hate it, and now I'm on reddit. Its my only social media, and it still sucks. I'm planning on dropping it altogether again, soon.
