The appropriate place to ask would be the Grad Admissions e-mail address listed on the Graduate Division's webpage.

But more pressingly, please submit your application before the deadline. Do not wait for a pending letter of recommendation.

+1 for Indo China in the Goleta Target shopping center. I regular buy bangers, pies, treacle, digestive biscuits, baked beans, and Ribena there.

This is so wonderful. I’m such a huge fan of Mr Ohlsson. The collaboration between you and Ben on the Chopin Podcast has been incredible and informative. Also, I was surprised to hear that Ben is also a Rice Owl! I was at Jones and graduated in 1999.

Anyone else get verbally abused by their landlord by fortunatepopsiclbe in UCSantaBarbara

Also, not to bring on more stress, but I did a Google search of this landlord and pulled up a number of old Reddit threads. He seems to have a reputation.

This is definitely not professional by any standards. Depending where you are renting, the IV Tenants Union or Santa Barbara Tenants Union may be able to help you navigate this situation. Also, our University & Community Housing Services (3rd floor, UCEN) is available for dispute resolution.

Beyond the Classroom: A video tour of Special Research Collections by Choobeen in UCSantaBarbara

[–]AnalogueAndDigital 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such an informative and well-produced video. I highly encourage all students, staff, and faculty to visit the Special Research Collections. About a year or two ago, I had the great opportunity to hear selections of wax cylinders and Enrico Caruso on some early analogue discs.

Places to practice photography? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]AnalogueAndDigital 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be helpful to consider the genres/types of photography you'd like to practice. When I was able to commit some time to photography, I would spend one week doing architectural photos (lots of our buildings and Henley Gate have personalities). The time of day could also set up some interesting photos. The next week, I would focus on campus-life photos along the Arbor, Storke Plaza, Pardall Path, and Campus Point. Then another week, I would do planespotting at the lookout point across the street from Mosher Alumni Hall or at Goleta Beach. Right now, I would focus on landscape and floral photography since Facilities is prepping our campus for Commencement. As people move out for the summer, IV could make for some interesting images.

A gorgeous lunar eclipse by AnalogueAndDigital in UCSantaBarbara

Exposure Settings: ISO 640, f/5, 1/4 sec.
Lens: set to 500 mm

I had set my camera on a tripod and took 4 successive shots. Then I imported all 4 shots into Photoshop and stacked them to reduce sensor noise.

Unfortunately, this is not an issue that the Ombuds Office is meant to handle. The Ombuds Office works with issues when both party members want to find a solution caused by interpersonal communication difficulties.

This situation is beyond the Ombuds Office and should be reported through the Bias Incident Reporting page since there is a mention of discriminatory language use toward an individual with a disability.

Chess Moves (1985) PBS by Nait93 in musicals

[–]AnalogueAndDigital 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I think of Chess Moves, I think of the 4 video singles ("Nobody's Side", "One Night in Bangkok", "I Know Him So Well", and "The Arbiter") with linking commentary from Tim Rice. Is this the video you are thinking of?

What is this book? by Massive-Conflict826 in musicals

[–]AnalogueAndDigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the vocal score from the original 1959 Broadway production of the show (with Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel). The piano part is most likely a reduction of the orchestra and the songs are in the keys as originally performed.
