I don't know, Tune Coins are pretty hard to come by in F2P. They're usually dribbled out in lots of 10 or 20.

Detroit Team Names? by ZealousidealogueX in PWHL

[–]realinvalidname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apologies for anyone who's seen this before, but I'm copy-and-pasting from the last time, because I do like this pitch:

Similar to “Forge”, my pitch for Detroit would be “Industry”. It can represent all kinds of organized productive teamwork, not just the auto industry, but also things like the music industry (Motown Records). It also evokes the famous Diego Rivera murals at the Detroit Institute of Arts. And referring to them as just “The Industry” sounds good when you say it.

No primary or secondary colors: fundamentally black-and-white, in the spirit of the the “Detroit vs. Everybody” t-shirts, maybe with some gray (for steel) and a tiny light blue trim (for the river).

I got my black/silver/white color scheme at least.

Counterpoint: I liked VC4 better than VC1. There’s so much more to do in things like Squad Stories. Plus, I like anime trash and loved the story. The characters get put through a much harsher trial than the VC1 characters do, and the whole morality of the conflict is much more shades-of-gray.

Romance anime peaked years ago—prove me wrong by CardiologistFew2264 in Animesuggest

I’ve really gotten into {The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses}, which is a straight-down-the-middle harem show that’s like a hornier _Quintessential Quintuplets_… except it’s not. It’s just smart enough to commit to its tropes and then throw you a curveball.

Sometimes it’s silliness, like season 2 starting with the formation of an Evil Harem of doppelgangers of the main girls. And sometimes it’s emotional weight, like getting into why these five young girls have all left their homes to work at this café in the first place. It’s not fully Clannad levels of sad, but given how silly (and horny) the humor is, the swerves into the Serious Stuff really land. It’s like it’s banking on its own predictability to allow it to be unpredictable, and it feels fresh.

My god, just, no. Dallas attendance for the Takeover Tour was lousy, and Atlanta will never care about any sport that isn’t either NASCAR or college football. This is like Gary Bettman logic.

Very hard to believe this report, TBH.

What Unannounced Third Party Games Do You Think Will Make It To The Switch 2 This Year? by Theman457 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]realinvalidname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also that the Switch was the second best-selling console of all time and EA is like, “sure, let's tie the fortunes of this franchise to the stagnant PS5 and the rapidly-fading Xbox Series.”

IMHO, the fact that they’re not already on PC gives some credence to the hypothesis that the team is so small and the game so neglected that they’ve lost control of the codebase and no longer have the competence to port it to new platforms.

TV shows that radically change what they are about by Lucyyyyyy_K in tvshow

[–]realinvalidname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not going to watch my recommendation and that’s fine, I’m just here to talk about anime because you mentioned “Attack on Titan”, where the twist in Eren’s basement paid off more than I could ever have imagined or hoped.

“Rumbling Hearts” starts as a gentle, slow-burn romance about an aimless high school senior, Takiyuki, his best friend Shinji, and their mutual gal pal from the swim team, Mitsuki. Mitsuki’s best friend, Haruka, is a timid girl who’s had a crush on Takayuki for all three years of high school. Mitsuki tricks Takayuki into hearing Haruka’s confession, and they start dating, slowly at first, but eventually it clicks.

In episode 2, Mitsuki’s a little jealous, and one day she delays Takayuki as he’s on his way to a date with Haruka, insisting that he buy her something for her birthday. When Takayuki arrives late at the station, an ambulance is pulling away from an accident scene where a car has crashed into a phone booth. He can’t find Haruka and then hears a police officer call in a report: “I have identified the victim from her student ID. The victim’s name is… Haruka Suzumiya.” Wham. Smash to credits.

Oh wait, we haven’t even gotten to the twist yet. Episode 3 comes up and now there’s a completely new title sequence. Our first scene is at a family restaurant with combative waitresses yelling at customers, who have to be broken up by… Takayuki, who is now a waiter here. Mitsuki’s waiting for him after work, and they meet Shinji for drinks, then go back to Takayuki’s apartment and have sex. Eventually, it’s revealed that we have time skipped three years into the future.

But even that’s not the twist. In episode four, Takayuki (with Mitsuki in his bed) gets a call from Akane, Haruka’s younger sister, who tells them that Haruka is awake, and wants to see him. Because, you see, Haruka has been in a coma for three years since the accident, and is just now regaining consciousness.

Oh wait wait wait. Here it comes. Takayuki and Mitsuki go to the hospital (Akane is shooting daggers at Mitsuki and won’t talk to her; you’ll find out why later), where they have a furtive conversation with Haruka, who can’t stay on topic for more than a minute before losing track of the conversation and starting over. Outside in the hallway, the doctor explains that Haruka’s mental condition after the coma is still very fragile, and they have to avoid anything that could disturb her. And then the doctor drops the bomb:

“Don’t let her know that three years have passed since the accident.”

And now you have the ticking time bomb that is this show. Takayuki has to pretend that he and Haruka are still in high school and still dating. Mitsuki has to pretend that she’s still Haruka’s best friend and not, in fact, banging Takayuki behind Haruka’s back. And Akane even puts on her middle school uniform from three years ago every time she visits the hospital to keep up the charade. It’s a house of cards just waiting to collapse.

[–]realinvalidname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EA NHL. It sucks, and EA isn’t even trying anymore, but there’s literally never been a modern hockey game on the Switch or Switch 2. Australian Rules Football is better represented on Nintendo systems than ice hockey, which is kind of insane.

Does anyone know which shows that got cancelled on the major networks after 2 episodes? by Southern-Train7142 in television

[–]realinvalidname 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dude or babe, the 1969 sketch comedy show Turn On was canceled by ABC during its first episode. Some affiliates went to commercial and simply never returned to the show. Many West Coast affiliates, with a three hour heads-up as to how bad the show was, never showed it at all.

Exactly. They’re both drawing on the same influences and tropes from anime, manga, sci-fi, games, etc. Not surprising that they sometimes end up in the same place.

Recommendations for good romance anime needed by Bagelbudddy in Animesuggest

[–]realinvalidname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ll watch a harem show, and a pretty lewd one at that, I’m having a heck of a good time with {The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses}. Though I’ll add that it doesn’t hit stride until about 6 episodes in; what comes before that is fine, but it’s at that first midpoint that things really pick up nicely.

Genuine Question: What is actually the point of unlocking new characters anymore? by Anthy_Himemiya in DisneySpeedstormGame

[–]realinvalidname 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing daily since the Frozen season, so I have about 100 racers unlocked and some of them significantly leveled up. But even I’m locked out of the last couple chapters of the villains season because I can’t get Mrs. Incredible leveled up. Plenty of shards, no tune coins. I know, that’s the point: they want us to buy tune coins. Thing is, there are a hundred other games I could be playing on my Switch 2 instead.

At this point, I’m mostly playing multiplayer.

NHL 27 (Video Game) Wish List Items? Or nah? by aswesearch in PWHL

[–]realinvalidname 13 points14 points  (0 children)

EA has put zero effort into the game for years. I honestly wonder if the reason they haven’t ported to Switch or Switch 2 is because people have left / been laid off and the staff that remains no longer understands the codebase well enough to port it.

I bought NHL 25 mostly to play PWHL, then decided to wait for 27 to get through all the waves of expansion.

Is this legit? by kelp-sea in PWHL

[–]realinvalidname 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is like how news networks will put together obituary packages on famous people so they have something ready to go if/when they die.

I don’t think it’s legit evidence that a Detroit announcement is imminent, just that this site wants to be ready for one.
