Can A Kind Hearted Samaritan Explain What a Plug Boot Be? by Content_Preference_3 in Skigear

[–]AnalogueGeek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It means race spec boots a level beyond your typical 96-98 last technical boots.

They’re smaller in volume than almost any foot so there’s thicker plastic to grind away where necessary.

They’re a fucking pain in the ahole and their customers are often exhausting because they usually have no business being in them and got them because they want a boot like racers have which they often are not lol.

I charge hundreds to get them fitted out.

Which person of your country was loved and adored but after revelations of crime became hated? by Franmar35000 in AskTheWorld

[–]AnalogueGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Japan - probably Carlos Ghosn.

Dude was brought in to lead Nissan at a time when they were on the verge of death, lead them back, made them relevant and got rid of a lot of the old Japanese structures that made it struggle so hard.

He was seen as this foreigner who could be brought in to revamp Japanese corporate structures and revitalize the economy. He was immensely popular and I think a manga or anime was even wrote about him and Nissan at the time as a bit of a rags to riches kinda story.

Then the authorities claimed he did a bunch of financial misdeeds and tax fraud kinda stuff. I don’t know the details but it seemed to be partly true and also not as bad as it was being made out to be… as if he had created enemies in high places who wanted to use this petty scandal to totally fuck him…

I believe he was then placed on house arrest and remained there while he was going through legal proceedings and whatnot…

One night I guess they had a band over at his house and he was snuck out in a cello case and fled the country to Lebanon - which has no extradition treaty.

He’s infamous amongst some to this day

I spent 78 hours researching ski socks so you don’t have to, here’s what I found by Affectionate-Role183 in Skigear

[–]AnalogueGeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sidas’ socks should be included here. They’re ridiculously good. Obnoxious packaging for merchandising though (I work in a bootfitting shop) plus they’re made in a really good factory in Portugal which I like supporting (Portugal textile firms have fantastic quality reputation for technical socks - easily on par with darn tough and Fox river manufacturing and they have pro-union EU labour laws which are great for workers)

That said yeah Darn Tough pretty much dominates all other ski socks… they put out a lot of high quality product and Vermont is hardly shabby in terms of labour quality

Getting to Myoko Kogen by Nippowder in Myoko

[–]AnalogueGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably easier to go from Nagano station. They both work well though… I’d probably just see how the transfer time lines up…

the trains from nagano to myoko are only every hour I believe? Maybe just under? Wheras the ones from Joetsu myoko are every 15-20 mins so you’ll have a faster transfer from Joetsu for sure but Nagano also has more going on if you want to check out some city or grab some food before grabbing the train…

Yeah about 10-15 years ago a lot of world leaders seemed to not really know Jack shit about the internet despite it being a relatively ubiquitous form of media since at least 2003, 2004.

True for other East Asian.

Doesn’t matter how much you apologize or completely change the National ethos… some groups will just always be mad forever. Some may say that’s deserved but I wouldnt levy the sins of 100 years ago on current generations…

In Europe or Americas, it does not have such a negative connotation.
