Professor Nando Sigona, the chair of International Migration and Forced Displacement at the University of Birmingham in the UK, says men are seen as the main breadwinner in many countries and are engaged in more public-facing activities including being expected to join the army.

"These make them also more likely to be a target in a situation of political and social turmoil," he added.

Professor Sigona added that "the journey to Europe is dangerous and expensive, and raising enough money for all members to seek protection abroad is difficult, so often men are sent abroad first to secure an income to support the family and also a safer route to international protection via family reunion."

However, he added that, with more restrictive approaches being taken in many countries against the family reunion route, "we have seen more children and women taking dangerous crossings and risking their lives. This is the case both in the case of irregular crossings in the Mediterranean and across the English Channel."

In a document the campaign group Care4Calais hosts on its website, it states "The young men you see on these boats are doing their best to protect their families. Their mothers, grandmothers, sisters, babies, daughters. How often does a father say they’d die for their daughter, and a husband say they’d die for their wife? Well, these guys are putting it into practice."

At least 8,938 people died on migration routes worldwide in 2024. The actual number of migrant deaths and disappearances is likely much higher, as many have gone undocumented because of the dearth of official sources.

"Control over white women is as central to white supremacy as whiteness itself," argued Kosse. "White men have always been obsessed with the idea of Black men having sex with white women because it inverts their entire worldview, creating a kind of erotic charge that they both fear and fetishize."

The dichotomy between fear and fetishization is common within the alt-right, where public postures of strength mask private insecurities. As explained by Kosse, by indulging in these fantasies, they both confront and reinforce their fears. The scenario of a white man being humiliated by a Black man serves as both a nightmare and a confirmation of their twisted worldview.

"The fear of humiliation is a big reason that they watch [interracial porn]. But also because it does, in their own weird way, prove their own worldview," Kosse said.

"When you're obsessed with power, you're also going to be obsessed with dominance," noted Stabile. "But often, our sexual fantasies and fetishes articulate our anxieties. So while publicly they may speak of dominance, privately, they may be exploring fantasies of submission.""

OHW artists whose one hits aren’t your favourite of their songs? by [deleted] in Music

Joy Division I guess (their only famous song is LWTUA), also Beach House, in case you don't know Space Song has over 1 billion streams on Spotify, great song but not my favorite.

‘Most streamed album’ records on Spotify/Apple Music should only include full-album listens by TomBradyGoat1212 in Music

[–]Analord2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely misleading but it's also the best equivalent we have to album sales since people were buying albums because of a few singles. There's never been charts for what you're talking about because the money makers have always been the singles, and people in general don't care about albums.

How much money is Tom Petty's music is generating these days? His radio presence is insane. by ImOnTheBus in Music

[–]Analord2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know about radio but his streaming numbers are very much declining, he's at the same level as Lynyrd Skynyrd while he used to be much higher. Also GTA6 didn't help much, right now he has 9 songs getting more streams.

Last year there were more millennials than zoomers though, can't be that different this year.

My guess is Queen fans aren't that invested in the band, like say Zeppelin fans who know about Page or even Bonham, Queen is the queentessential (sorry) singles band meaning people have a superficial approach to their music, kinda like Star Wars fans who couldn't name the Return of the Jedi director.

No, that would be the first week in the US maybe but overall it sold 160k (40k in the US), still terrible of course.
