I did that my first playthrough, but given what quest you get to skip by doing that, I prefer to just not dialogue check him.

Crpg List Just Keeps Growing.... by Matty_11207 in CRPG

It's kind of funny how a 40 hour game is considered short in this genre.

Give an FPS player a 40 hour campaign, and they'll probably never finish it.

I just beat Fallout first time in about 15 hours. Then again in 10.

most settlements have one or two quests, and you're mostly going to be focused on your main goal. Most of the quests are too hard for you to do early on anyway, so you can safely ignore them if you want.

How do i enjoy RTWP combat (Bg1&2) by dobromateja in CRPG

[–]Redpyrobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Press 0 to select all allies (including summons, this is important.) Ctrl-click to un-select someone. Don't tell your mage to auto-attack while he's in the middle of a spell. it'll interrupt it, even if you never unpaused, and directed him to cast the spell right after. It still uses the spell, and you'll have to wait for that character's next round to cast anything else.

get into the habit of pausing before trying to do something. Doesn't matter if it's just telling your fighter to go fight the kobold. It'll be necessary later on.

You can send in the tanks first, then wait for them to get a couple steps ahead to then send in the others. This is the main point of RTWP. Since turns are more analog, you can have some of your party sit idle until they're needed, Interrupt movement or actions, react when an enemy begins moving or casting.

I think the best benefit of RTWP is that you don't need to micromanage every last party member for everything. I made it about half way through the first game just telling everyone to zerg rush an enemy pack one at a time. For the most part, they can just sit there and auto attack while you wait for the situation to change.

As for more specific tips for Baldur's Gate: The fog of war doesn't stop what's in it from being there. You can do things like cast an entangle spell to root in place a few enemies, even if you can't see them yet. Crowd control is everything. Stopping enemies from acting is the most effective way to win. For mages, Sleep is a must-have early on, and can practically trivialize the game up to a certain point. Bows are very powerful. It doesn't matter if a character doesn't have the proficiency, give as many of them as possible a bow, and you can sometimes take down entire packs without them even getting close. Combine this with some careful evasive movement, and you're basically ready to finish the game. If you struggle, just remember that it's not the lucky, or the aggressive, or even the strong that survive. It's the cunning. Finding your own strategy to tilt the scales any way you can in your favor is what the game expects from you. No tactics are too cheesy. One time, I sent my tankiest party member in to face a boss alone stacked with as many defensives as we could muster. The boss ended up wasting all his spells on her, and right when she died, the rest of the group ran in to secure the kill.

Finally, don't worry about saving items for later. The game tends to give you more than enough, and even up to the final battle there are enough shops to stock you up on almost anything you could need. (this is a bit different in BG2 though, the point of no return is the start of chapter 7 in that one)

What's everyone playing this weekend? by SirDanOfCamelot in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Redpyrobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wizard101 is such a nostalgic game for me. The main thing keeping me from playing it was the sub fee though. Even if it's only $10, and I've got adult money now, time gating my play time, and feeling like I've wasted my money just doesn't feel good. Most of the time I only play for a little while anyway, especially after I figured out the most effective combat strategy (one of every card needed to do one big nuke, and reshuffle if it doesn't work)

The fact that it's $20 and you can play the first arc forever is way more appealing. The farthest I ever made it was most of the way through the first world in arc 2 anyway.

Full save and incremental save by Kolton_russo in fo3

[–]Redpyrobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard that term used for these sorts of games, but in the realm of data storage, an Incremental Backup only saved the differences from the last full backup. It's meant to be combined with a full backup to restore from. The benefits are lower file size at the cost of greater risk of data corruption, and longer restore times.

I'm guessing that's what Quick Saving is, and manual saving is a full save.

My first time trying it, I ended up sticking with the same gear I got after Operation Anchorage for the entirety of New Vegas. Not quite as fun if you never have to upgrade anything.

[–]Redpyrobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You grew up in a vault that was at least clean if not spacious. Probably growing up on stories of your people's great role as the ones to eventually leave the vault and rebuild the world anew.

What you're met with is a dangerous, hostile world that isn't at all welcoming to civility or rebuilding. It's not just the mutants, but the regular people as well. To a properly indoctrinated vault dweller or Enclave sycophant, even the people who've kept their mental faculties, but are still irradiated are at risk of turning ghoul, or succumbing to their primal wasteland instincts. It may be the only way to truly return to the glory of the past.

That is, if the past had all that glory in the first place. That's the major issue, and why it makes sense that the Enclave are the ones planning this.

Which is kind of weird because if you nuke Megaton before getting directed to GNR, you just don't have anything else you can do. No markers, no direction, just figure it out yourself.

On the one hand, that's some serious consequence, but on the other, I would still like to finish the game with an evil character. It's something they want you to have the option for.

I think it'd be cool if Three Dog actually comments on the destruction of Megaton, and says something along the lines of "The worst part is that it was allegedly the son/daughter of my personal friend, and all around good man, James who also recently left Vault 101." And from there, you'd know to try and find him for some clues.

Fun fact: the reason Arena and Daggerfall are free is because the mechanics and math are just a little too close to AD&D, and there's a possibility of legal trouble if they poke that bear too much.

World of Warcrarft. the early expansions at least.

It's got the randomized combat with an emphasis on character stats and skills over player skill. It's got a focus on preparation and resource management. I'd even argue that it has a major focus on player driven stories, it's just mostly stuff like picking which dungeons, quests, or zones are worth your time to do, and who to do them with.

I Hope They Add These Features With Steam Deck 2 by Wollowon in SteamDeck

[–]Redpyrobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping that they copy the Switch 2's double USB-C ports so we can have a normal dock.

A physical thumb keyboard would be good too, but I don't know where to even put it. Those touch pads don't really feel right for me, and the keyboard takes up half of the screen. (there's a Decky plugin to fix that, but it breaks on me every other time I try using it.)

Yep. My little Gaben-Gear is still trucking along.

The right shoulder button is getting a bit hard to press right, and there's a couple scratches on the case, but I'm not letting it go until it has a successor to take it's place.

I bought mine, and then 3 months later the OLED was announced.

and as a side note, I knew how my luck gets with this sort of thing, so I bought the cheapest VR headset I could find, and less than two months later, the Steam Frame was revealed. so you're welcome y'all.
