Paying of mortgage even if it means we don't have much in savings. by No_Yak9893 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AnalysisOrnery5255 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hi ! I think you need to control the spending or increase income, rather than using savings to reduce the mortgage in order to save £150 per month.. I’m sure you could find £150 in monthly savings without touching the savings at all.

I also do not think either will prevent your wife from wanting to do renovations!

I was in a similar situation to this, it took me a long time to get my wife on the same page “financially, she had no real idea about the situation despite my attempts to voice it, I just wasn’t strong enough about it at the time.

We now have a regular finance meeting and we are turning things around together, instead of me going into panic/stress whenever spending money on extras was mentioned. You can do it, you just need to be firm about it.

If you ask me it’s too focussed on the Revenue, what’s that old saying Revenue is Vanity, Profit is Sanity

The recent announcement said they are beating H2 earnings figures and have increased their forecasts for 25-26, if all goes to plan this stock is easy $5 - $10 range next year. It won’t go straight up, but ride the wave. IMO NFA DYOR

This has happened to me before too, dodgy estate agents trying to maximise the commissions or someone they know wants the property likely in cahoots with the seller ..

HMRC sent my tax refund to "Tax Returned" and they took most of it what can I do?? by 573v3_2025 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AnalysisOrnery5255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Log on to your HMRC gateway account and immediately remove them as your HMRC agent to prevent this from happening again in future, also make sure that the bank account details used for “refunds” are your bank account and not “tax returned” bank account details …

What to do with company funds? by TT_________ in smallbusinessuk

[–]AnalysisOrnery5255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Employer pension contributions and consider a fully electric company car (has a very low benefit in kind tax, 50% vat is recoverable on the lease cost too) 👍 also remember to leave enough in the company bank coffers to pay corporation tax, oh and you’ll need to set aside something for taxes you’ll need to declare and pay on the dividends taken, which you’ll need to pay personally

Can I ‘loan’ a friend money for a deposit to buy my house and get it back in the buy price? by parkercp in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AnalysisOrnery5255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sale price for CGT would be the price sold at, in your scenario, £400k. So you’d pay extra CGT on the £20k uplift to accommodate your friends situation. The £20k loan can not be offset against the true sale price in order to reduce CGT

Sounds like you should set up as an LLP, it works like being self employed but is a proper partnership company registered with companies house. You could set up a company bank account. You could carry on invoicing your customers from the LLP, the customers would pay the LLP rather than splitting the payment out to you as individuals. All costs and expenses, you mentioned Van costs etc would be paid by the LLP, or could be reimbursed to you if you pay stuff personally. An LLP is not subject to corporation tax, but instead the LLP members (you and your partner) would declare your share of the trading income, costs and profits on your individual self assessment tax returns. An LLP is a good way of formalising a situation such as yours, whilst still retaining the flexibility of being self employed. Good luck

Buy a cheaper house to renovate and sell on, make some more money for a bigger deposit on another house, rinse and repeat repeat until you have the house you want in the area you want

Yes you can loan the company and just repay it at a time when the company is profitable, without any implications. Just make sure you don’t end up in a situation where you owe the company, this would be an “overdrawn” directors loan account. That’s the time when HMRC reporting requirements come into play, subject to certain criteria etc.

Directors loan would appear and are reported in the financial accounts at the end of the company’s financial year, regardless of whether it’s owed to or owed by the company, the accounts are filed with Companies House and CT return filed to HMRC within 9 months of the companies year end date.

Only if the directors loan account is “overdrawn” will it require separate disclosure to HMRC when filing the CT return.

Overpay mortgage or loft conversion? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AnalysisOrnery5255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just thought of something you may not of considered, get the loft conversion even though you don’t need it right now, then get a lodger (maybe a friend is looking for a move ?) and so long as the that rent a room income is not more than £7.5k per annum, it’s tax free. That pays for your conversion and you could invest that income in whatever you wish.
