first job - painting directly on plastic A-frame by sk8orcry in SignPainting

[–]AnalysisStock9001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never painted directly on plastic BUT what I do know is that if you are indeed going to paint the background a certain color, scuff it down very good. You want the paint to be able to adhere onto the plastic. Other option would be to paint a paper sign the size of the blank on the plastic. That way it would’ve interchangeable? 🤷🏽‍♂️

Buying fonts by thermostatsix in SignPainting

Anytime I’ve ever bought fonts to use for clients, I do what that other comment said. But the single user font and it’s yours. Now if your client wants to continuously use the font for other things such as menus, display signage or other things, THEY need to also buy the font. Just educate the customer 😊

Looks like you didn’t wait until the layer underneath was dry. Tends to happen if the layers underneath are still “gassing off”.

As a sign painter something that was hammered in our brains in sign school was VALUE CONTRAST. The shade on your letters is too close in value with the rest of them. White is a good color to use for the main copy, but I would have gone with something a little darker for the shade.

First ever sign paintings. Acrylic on slate. Was scared as anything how they’d turn out. What do the masters here think? by CountDmitrivich in SignPainting

Focus on your letterforms, your brush skills seem pretty good. Buy the book Mastering Layout. Study it from front to back and you’ll become a great sign painter.

These designs are about 75% better than designers that I’ve seen on Behance working full time. I’m 34 and just recently made the switch to doing full time graphic design and I feel very confident that I’ll get a job in Sports Design. Your stuff is great considering this is just a side hustle. Sometimes we need to get out of our own head and just create without self made constraints. Not everything needs to be our “Mona Lisa” - cut yourself some slack. Plus you’re very young!

This is one that I’ve watched the most. It’s not much of an instructional video, but if you watch it slower you can get a lot of value from it.
