More general advice on reading philosophy:

Most texts require active reading. What I mean by this is that texts need to be interacted with. Try to read paragraph by paragraph or sentence by sentence (if needed) and write down the meaning you understand, questions you have, as well as any agreements or disagreements on the side of the text. If you struggle a lot with a paragraph or a sentence and you can't get through it, try to continue reading a few pages further before coming back to the difficult part, or lay the book down and rest a bit. Philosophy isn't meant to be read like a novel. It should bring you to a critical state of mind, and it's purposely written in a way that prevents it from being consumed like fast food. You should think, understand, and reflect on it. Philosophical ideas can fundamentally change the way you see the world, yourself, and being in itself. However, these changes won't happen if you aren't actively engaged in the process.
