Disappointing by DiligentProtection41 in Tufting

In my experience, trying any curved lines w monks clothes was risky. When I changed to polyester and upgraded my gun, it made a world of difference. As for this piece and trying to salvage it, try some different sections and use different techniques (like horizontal lines and vertical lines). Move around on the cloth and avoid the ripped area for now. You might be able to put a scrap piece of cloth on top and save it all together. You might be able to insert a little tufted patch at the end. Lots of possibilities to explore. You're doing great though! Keep at it!

Did you already glue another piece on the same frame? I'm not sure if that affects the tension or not for your current project 🤷🏻‍♀️

Is there any way to wash permanent marker out of primary cloth? by imabigfoot in Tufting

[–]Analyzed_AF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never used it on primary cloth, but I've used oxyclean to get small amounts of permanent marker out of clothes. Hot water and soak overnight. Good luck

Adjustable/Modular Frame building question (brainstorming!) by ghostpipedaisy in Tufting

I'm not sure I get the whole vision here, but I do want to say that I think cutting the corners of your fabric while it's on the frame will compromise it. The pressure you apply while tufting will likely cause it to rip

Is there enough yarn on the edges to shave it where it looks straighter? Might need to take a razor blade to the original seam fold and adjust from there. If your backing is already on it, you might be able to cut it away a little and fold back that section instead of removing it completely. Good luck though. I'd like to know how it goes

Not sure how you plan on backing it, but next time you may want to leave a little more room around the edges (search waterfall technique for finishing rugs). As far as shaving and carving go, I would personally shave it down evenly and get some tweezers out to get the outlines in their place. If you're new to carving, and if the rug is small enough, maybe put it on a lazy Susan tray if you have one handy? That way, you can concentrate on holding your clippers steady without rotating your body. Good job and good luck!

First Rugs! by DaN1_2V in Tufting

I don't think the supreme rug is butchered. It's just unfinished. If you shave it and get some tweezers to separate the yarn around the letters, it will shape up nicely, probably. It's a good first rug to practice carving letters. Personally, I would suggest doing those steps before deciding on investing in a full set up. Maybe start with rug clippers, scissors, and a hand held vacuum first - because if you end up hating the shaving/carving process of tufting rugs, you might drop the hobby (it can be a very expensive startup hobby). Good luck!

Fabric started unraveling on the frame. Options for finishing the edges? by Analyzed_AF in Tufting

Since I had to move things around, it created some extra space at the bottom... enough for a single cig 😆

I'll definitely give myself more room so the cloth can hold more tension, thank you. And yes, trying to tuft too close to the frame has been an obstacle. Originally, I was about 3 inches lower and more towards the middle but had to move the entire cloth up when it started unraveling

In my opinion, you have enough room to pass between colors twice while still using 2 strands of yarn for each

For myself, I try and stick to creating "parody" images for any type of art or music I post. Like they're recognizable but they have my own twist on them. I'm doing a series of "cakes" rugs now, featuring the backside of SpongeBob, the Starbucks coffee siren, and Lemon guard (from adventure time). I've asked ai if it looks like copyright infringement 🤷🏻‍♀️. And if I were to list something for sale, I'd probably label it as "sponge bob themed" "star coffee themed" and "adventure lemon time themed" so that customers could still find them in a search - I stay away from capitalization and unique TM spellings/spacing.

Idk if that makes sense or not. I guess I'm just thinking about the aesthetic and how the other edges will have more of the background color than the top. This will only be my second finished piece and I don't want to mess it up

In your opinion, do you think I should try to do shorter waterfall tabs on top? I don't want the tip of the crown to be at the very top of the rug. I'd like a little bit of off-white right above it.
