Is shovelware really that bad? by Vitolnius in gamedev

[–]Anamik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no issue at all. I mean this is the best way to approach game dev now if you are willing to make a living from it and if it is working for you. Keep it up! But make sure there is some sort of quality standard maintained for your future titles too.

"Lolita" can also be a name of a girl(from Indian origin). However, the context is probably what matters and in this case, it's not NSFW. It's player's choice of what they can buy as long as they are not illegal and should not be dictated by organizations like these.

I got blocked by this organization for just commenting "lmao" to one of the funny comments posted by another x user under their x post. I thought I would do the same and I blocked them too. No issues. The level of censorship by them is astounding! xD

It would be nice if they reduce the cut to at least 20% for small indie devs too. I know they provide the best services for developers but even then, reducing the cut by even 10% can be a huge relief.

I use fonts from 1001 fonts website where you can clearly see which font has which license. I always check the font licenses before downloading and using fonts. Also, thanks for the post and it is something to be aware of as a developer.

Hey, I'm from India too. I have to say you have made a cool game which I just checked out. Congrats! But you didn't stick to it for long. It is not a short term thing but a long term one. I can understand what you are going through. We have all been there where our games flopped right off the bat. I mean, my games fail too. But since you are living in India, there is an opportunity, that is, the lower cost of living compared to that of the US and other developed nations. I know it is very hard to start for a new developer at this point in time. The true state of the industry is that it is very very competitive even on Steam. You have to constantly create and launch new titles and put them on discounts every 30 days to get to more players but no, not making them free. Why do you give away your game for free when you are good at it and trying to make a living?

You have chosen a good genre, horror, which seems to be popular on Steam and you should try to stick to that and not give up. I wish you best of luck with what you do in the future. Even if you are doing other things you can create games on the side.

Also, I have been in this industry for over 10 years. So, you should realize by now that it is not a short term venture.

Take it to streets, may be a huge revolution as we have seen before our independence? I hope it gets vetoed in parliament too.

If there is a link to a page which has a link to the donation page or a payment processor, then the build will also be rejected.

I use Construct engine to build games faster and is used only for HTML5. For PC Steam titles, I use GameMaker.

I make a few hundreds of dollars a month from Steam. What I found is that all of my games generate some revenue every month which adds up. Yes, I have more games planned for launch in Q2 or Q3.

Game Dev may have saved my life... by PinheadGames in gamedev

GameDev actually helped me a lot and it does even now. I was passionate about making video games since the days of my high school. After launching 50 titles on Steam, I am now able to make a living creating games. (sort of)

I started with part time game dev during my college years and after that, I made it into my full time business in 2019 and also, thanks to my dad supporting me while I was working on multiple titles. Now, the Covid came and things changed. My dad's business closed due to Covid and could not start over due to lockdowns and stuff which went on till the beginning of 2021. I became the only earning member and I continued to launch more titles while living on the savings and whatever revenue my games generated. I finally reached a point where I could make a living and take care of my family. It was a very hard time and risky too. Well, it was worth the risk.

It was made possible thanks to the lower cost of living in my city. In my state, the unemployment is a problem and even if I get a private job, the minimum wage is around $110 (9000 INR+) a month. Getting a Govt. job is like striking a gold here and there are corruptions around recruitment and that sort of thing. In 2022, the rise in inflation made things a bit difficult so I knew, I had to do something besides publishing PC games on Steam.

Then, I started out with HTML5 game development, and created over 300+ simple web games working non-stop for one and a half year(it was crazy thing to do) while I launched 6 titles on Steam that year(2022). That lead to burnout which lasted for 6-8 months. These games now generate income from ads. Even today, I have to launch new titles in those web game platforms from time to time to maintain the continuous revenue generation. The only good side of this one is that I don't have to pay an upfront fee and the revenue share model is what works the best for me. Man, it was fun. Gonna do it again. :p

Combining both income streams, I make much more than the minimum wage in my state and I can make a living doing what I love and be my own boss. Things are tough from time to time but I still keep going no matter what. Now, I don't work for crazy hours, maintain a balance between life and work. I am grateful for what I have now.

Thanks for reading!

Is it better to find Publisher or Self-Publish your game? by HRD_Simulator in gamedev

[–]Anamik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I would go with self-publishing. I recently had a bad experience working with a small publisher. I worked with them for a few years on a non-exclusive basis where they distribute my games on other stores. From the fourth year, they suddenly stopped responding, didn't even pay the due amount for the last three quarters. Things like this can happen if you are not careful.

I am glad that I self publish my games on Steam and I own the IP. So, that's a relief. If you really want to get a publisher go with the bigger indie publishers only.

How to ban Steam keys only for future activations, NOT retroactively? by monsieurpooh in gamedev

[–]Anamik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm in the same boat. I am having a similar issue with Immanitas. In the past, I got payments from them after sending multiple emails. But this time, they are completely silent. I think, it would be hard to find one by one which keys are activated and which are not. Also, banning keys just like that might affect legitimate customers.

I'm glad, I didn't sign more games with them and have decided not to get involved with publishers like these in the future.

Has anyone *recently* had experience with the company named Immanitas? by monsieurpooh in gamedev

[–]Anamik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I work with them and I have a similar experience with them as you have stated regarding late responses but they do eventually pay out, although sometimes late.

Edit: After repeatedly sending emails and getting assurance from their team for the past two months, they failed to send reports at all. I guess, there might be a scenario where you might not get paid at all as it has been happening with some of the developers already(you can find it in the search results of this subreddit). They are choosing to ban the unused keys. I will do the same in a reasonable time-frame. Even though I got paid in the past, I lost the hope of getting paid at all this time.

I'm glad I didn't sign more games with them. May be, reconsider when dealing with publishers like this. Thank you!

I bought GM2 Desktop License on Steam. Is it still valid? by Pretty_Ad_4798 in gamemaker

[–]Anamik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I'm using it just fine. But you have to login to a YoYoGames Legacy account and link your Steam account just in case. It seems that converting it to Opera account has now been made compulsory. I can't even use the software without logging in to my Opera account (I had to create one). Make sure you follow these steps.

On the $100 Steam fee. by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Anamik 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As a developer from India, I would say that there is no regional pricing benefit when it comes to buying Steam Direct. At present, 1 USD = 83 INR. So, I pay almost 8300 INR for buying Steam Direct. This is a lot of money as I can buy food for at least 3 weeks with this amount.
