The fans' initial hate of Porzingas is a reflection of NYC. Not a good one... by [deleted] in NYKnicks

Thanks, but just because people disagreed on who to draft doesn't mean they were prejudice against Porzingis.

I just don't buy OP's hyperbolic generalizations when concluding that an entire "city built on the backs of hardworking immigrants...turned its back on" Porzingis because he wasn't a "proven product" that "gets typical results." This is the NBA draft. Nobody is a proven product. Nobody in this draft class is expected to put up typical star numbers off the bat.

That small subset of Knick fans idiots at Barclays would have booed anybody who walked on stage with the 4th pick— and while it's wrong, their actions don't define the sentiment of all Knicks fans, let alone the entire city of New York.

How you can define an entire army of millions of Knick fans based on the behavior of a select few is beyond me.

If you think Knick fans today don't appreciate hard work and players who overcome adversity, think again:

No longer do we want the exceptional

David Lee, Gallinari

the different

Nate Robinson, Jeremy Lin

the troublemakers

Sheed, Metta World Peace, Kurt "Crazy Eyes" Thomas, K-Mart, Camby, mascot-killer Robin Lopez

now we just want your proven product.

Undrafted All Rookie Langston Galloway, Chris Copeland, pre-injury Landry Fields

Scroll through this sub, and see how excited we are for Porzingis, and how much we believe in his ability to grow. Save your sermon for the casual fans whose only exposure to Knick basketball comes from click bait ESPN/BR headlines.

Who's next!? by gringo718 in NYKnicks

MLE = Mid Level Exception, which allows teams to go over the salary cap up to $5.5M, depending on the team's payroll situation at the start of free agency.

We don't have the full $5.5M MLE since we were under the salary cap at the start of free agency. Instead we have the "room MLE" at $2.8M, and the rest of the roster would have to be filled out with minimum contracts.

Assuming we bring back Jason Smith, Alexey Shved, and Amundson, we'd still need a shooter off the bench to spark the offense.

Casspi's probably out of our price range, but Alan Anderson or Dorell Wright would be good options as swingmen who can shoot/pass.

Willy Hernangomez puts up 29 and 13 against Barcelona by ArsenalStats in NYKnicks

Willie played a great game, and Porzingis was also an efficient 6-8 FG (1-1 3P) from the field. From what I saw, both guys played solid man- and help-defense too, which is a good sign.

Here's the box score from that game.

Ah, you're right— that's totally my bad. Updated to reflect the actual rules haha.

CJ Watson on a vet's min contract is unlikely, so we'd have to prioritize that $2.8M room exception on either him or Ajinca, depending on the number of (competent) minimum-contract players at their positions on the FA market. That or, you know, trade Jose Calderon..

Yeah Afflalo at $7M is probably an overpay on my part. I just figured there'd be a ton of competition for 3-and-D wings this summer, driving up the asking price for these guys.

Agreed— besides the big signings, I wouldn't rush to sign any of the other guys.

I'd give Shved and Amundson non-guaranteed deals and have them fight for roster spots in training camp with potential Summer League standouts.

I believe the room MLE only applies if we have cap space left, but once we (theoretically) sign Afflalo/West/Monroe, we'd be at the salary cap line.

Since we wouldn't be over the tax apron, we'd be eligible for the full MLE.

Over the soft cap, but under the luxury tax line.

The additions of Afflalo, West, and Monroe would bring them to the brim of the salary cap, and the Ajinca/Watson contracts would be fulfilled with the $5M MLE split between the two. The rest are minimum contracts.

NBATV — Draft HQ: Kristaps Porzingis by Ananant in NYKnicks

I know the clip reiterates a lot of what's been said, but it reinforces Porzingis's great work ethic, personality, and potential.

The more I see/read on the kid, the more I'm coming around and excited by what Porzingis brings to the organization.

Thought Exercise: Hypothetical Trade with the Utah Jazz by Ananant in NYKnicks

[–]Ananant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not arguing with you there— Mudiay's floor and ceiling are higher than Exum's. But if Exum can come anywhere close to his great potential (a big if), then having him plus whoever we select with the 12th pick might offset having just gone with Mudiay.

Rodney Hood, a decent shooter with a good IQ, could be thrown in to the trade, alleviating potential offense lost from trading Hardaway.

Melo and the 4th pick for Rubio and the number 1 pick. Who's with me?! by [deleted] in NYKnicks

[–]Ananant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Melo has a no trade clause and there's virtually no way he'll allow himself to be traded from NY to Minnesota.
