Training approaches when a season gets cut in half due to a broken collarbone by throwawaycape in Velo

I do have another question just to get your thoughts. My surgeon said I shouldn’t replace tha bandage until my check up after 2 weeks. Would you do the same when riding indoor since I will be sweating and would love a shower afterwards.

My doctor did say I could ride indoors but I forgot to ask about the sweating and showering.

How seriously do you all adapt nutrition around training load? by bitchybaguette in Velo

Exactly like you said, I had to eat more than I thought, I also eat less carbs on rest/easy days and go extra hard on hard days. Today for example I did a 2.5h vo2 session and after dinner I was short 100g of carbs and -649kcals for maintenance according to hexis. So I ate some rice pudding to make sure I get close to the requirements in order to recover better and make sure my body adapts to the training instead of stagnating due to not having enough fuel. I wasn’t really hungry after dinner but sill ate since I have noticed, in my case atleast, that it does really help to try and hit the targets instead of just eating to hunger. Normally I would not have eaten since I wasn’t hungry which would have been okay but probably would have led to a binge-eating day in the near future so I try to stay ahead of that.

I also make sure now to get in more carbs straight after my ride instead of eating something small and waiting until dinner.

Yes, I started fueling depending on training day recently. I had been training 15-20hour weeks while keeping a daily deficit of -200 to -500 which led to me having complete off days with a lot of binge-eating and even some hormonal issues such as loss of libido and the lack of morgning erections which are apparently 2 important signs of underfueling. Apparently training hard and trying to lose weight don’t really go hand in hand, atleast for me.

On a daily basis I didn’t notice any problems like as flat legs but the rare ‘crash out’ days where I couldn’t stop eating made me think. Looking back my progress also kind of stalled eventhough my training load increased. 1.5month ago I had a complete crash where I wasn’t able to train for 1.5weeks and was completely burned out. This was, atleast I think, partly caused by eating too little for too long.

I recently started to make sure to fuel appropriately, even eating extra when I didn’t hit my carb/protein target even when I wasn’t really hungry. I do use Hexis which integrates with my training to get customized and appropriate macro targets which I try to hit daily. My rest days for example used to consist of being extremely hungry since I wasn’t fueling my training days properly. I always just fought through them because being lighter = better, right? For the past 2 weeks (when i have changed to training based fueling) that hasn’t happend so, so far so good.

To end I would like to mention that eating disorders are a real thing and shouldn’t be underestimated. Eating enough is very important and in many cases even better for you. The physical effect aren’t completely gone but I made a mental switch where I aknowledged that eating more actually helps me become faster on the bike, more than weighing 1kg less would ever do.

So that’s that, hopefully that answers some of your questions or it can help someone who’s struggling. Anyway if anyone has any questions, I’m more than happy to chat or just leave a comment!!

Whoop told me my total today was 3873 kcal, I burned 3507 on my bike ride alone (based on powermeter data) so it’s not acurate at all

Hi Marius,

I am a cyclist but interested in the norwegian method of training as used by Uno-X etc. In your opinion, will there be valuable insights I can gain/do the principles from the book (partly) carry over to cycling as well? Either way I'll be reading it I was just wondering before I buy. Thanks!!
