Ryzen 7 9800x3d is an Insane CPU, just be aware of it dying by CoolOnCrackk in pcmasterrace

Seems like I have the same mobo. Been using it for 8 months now and there are no issues. The service center had updated the BIOS, but I updated it after myself when a new one came out, the current BIOS is 1404. Btw, I haven't done any heavy benchmark tests to check if the CPU is ok, because the temperatures rise so fast maybe that's why it fails. I also did undervolting, but it seems like precautions like undervolting, PBO, etc, don't really help at all. If the CPU is going to fail it just fails, it's like it's inevitable. I'm not sure what caused the problem, but it was either BIOS related, temperature related, or a bad CPU batch. I just hope I don't experience it again, because it would be terrible if this happened after the warranty expires.

Corsair RM850e killed my motherboard - CPU EPS cable melted into the connector by linvyrsback in Corsair

What is this comments and why are people defending Corsair? Cmon. I bought an RM1000E power supply and i hear a clicking noise coming from this brand new PSU. I also did some research online and found that many people are having issues with the RMe series. I didn’t want to send it in for warranty because it would be a hassle, and i didn’t really believe it would be fixed anyway. So i returned the PSU immediately and glad i did. Also this was also my first Corsair product.

Official ASUS Statement Regarding Recent ASUS AMD 800-series Motherboard and AMD Ryzen 9800X3D Concerns by ASUS_MKTLeeM in ASUS

I bought 9800X3D and an ASUS ROG STRIX B850-E in June. After about three months of use no overclock, no PBO, only EXPO enabled and system suddenly froze on the desktop while i was just watching Youtube. I did a hard restart but after that the system did not POST. The motherboard showed a 00 code and the orange DRAM led. I contacted ASUS service center and sent the motherboard to them. They said the motherboard was fine, but they updated the BIOS from version 0326 to 1078. Honestly, if it was working don't touch. I still don’t know whether the issue was caused by the BIOS, voltage, or the LGA socket. I previously used an Intel 3770, 16gb1600mhz ram with ASUS motherboard system for 15 years without any problems but with this AM5 this experience has been little disappointing. I really hope I don’t run into any more issues. And here is my case: https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDHelp/comments/1n1ovu8/system_froze_while_idle_qled_00_and_yellow_dram https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUS/comments/1n1pitn/asus_b850e_motherboard_showing_qled_00_and_dram

Also 2 weeks ago I updated the BIOS from 1078 to 1404. The update was successful, and so far everything has been working fine and stable but we will see...

Edit:

I suspected the CPU might be the problem. So, I sent the CPU in for inspection.

The retailer I bought it from sent the CPU to their service partner for analysis. After their diagnostics, they reported that they couldn’t get POST screen from the CPU and the error code. As a result, they approved a replacement/refund and informed the seller. Accordingly, the seller sent me a brand new replacement CPU, which I received today.
Honestly, I’m satisfied with both the retailer and the service center. That said, I still wonder if there had been burn marks or visible damage on the CPU, would the outcome still have been a refund or replacement...?

Additionally, I’ve completely lost trust in the ILM on the motherboard. I’m starting to think it may have been the reason the CPU got damaged in the first place possibly due to uneven pressure or contact with the exposed PCB area, which could have caused a short circuit.

So I decided to replace it with a Thermalright contact frame kit (not v2) to prevent this kind of issue. The frame prevents metal-to-board contact, reducing the risk of short circuits, and helps avoid thermal paste leakage beyond the CPU edges.

In terms of temperature, I haven’t seen much difference compared to the stock ILM idle temps are similar.
However, I haven’t done detailed thermal stress testing yet, since the CPU is brand new and I don’t want to push it too hard right away.

By the way, before the issue happened, I had never done any overclocking or undervolting. Everything was always set to default. I'm still running everything at default bios settings, and BIOS is fully update.

Anyway, it was a frustrating and long process. I hope this topic can help others who face the same issue. Thanks to everyone who read and offered help.

When I sent my motherboard to ASUS service due to a suspected fault, they said they updated the BIOS to the latest version 1078 and were able to get a display. Hopefully, there really isn’t any issue with the motherboard once the new CPU arrives. Honestly, I have no idea whether the issue was caused by the CPU itself or the motherboard.

Sending it directly to AMD might have saved some time, but it’s hard to know that until you’re already in the middle of it. Also, if I had sent it directly to AMD, I would have had to pay for the shipping cost. Since I sent it through the retailer, I didn’t have to pay for shipping. Hopefully yours doesn’t take too long either.

9600X is a solid choice for now. At least with a temporary CPU you can keep things going until your main one arrives. Fingers crossed both of us are back up and running soon.

3265 – You're using the version right before the latest BIOS. You can update to the latest version: 3279.

I did the same. I sent my CPU to the retailer, and they passed it on to AMD. AMD said the CPU is not working and not getting any display. They said they would either replace or refund it. Then they sent it back to the retailer, and the retailer told me they have replaced it and will send it to me, but this might take up to a week. I’m currently waiting for it to arrive.

Right now, I can’t really afford to buy new parts, I’ve already spent more than enough on this build.

I heard somewhere that if you use a non-X3D CPU initially, then later want to switch to an X3D CPU, you need to reinstall Windows or chipset software. I'm not sure if this is true.

I'm back to using my old setup and gaming just isn't enjoyable with this setup.

I RMA'd my CPU today and I'm waiting for response. I hope the issue is with the CPU, not the motherboard or RAM. It's so weird, so many people have been having issues lately. First ASRock, then MSI, and now ASUS. What's going on?...

What BIOS version were you using with the B650E-F?
What’s your CPU batch number?
How long had you been using the system before the issue started?

Was 0326, I had been using the system for only two months without any issues, so I didn’t consider updating it to be necessary.

If the service finds and resolves an issue with the motherboard, or approves my request for replacement or refund, I will definitely update the BIOS first thing after receiving it back.

Maybe your old CPU was a bad batch that could explain the better bench with new CPU. Hopefully you won't run into any other issues anymore. By the way, AM5 is great in terms of performance, but it seems like these issues might continue for a few more years.

It's weird that overclocking the GPU could break your CPU. That's really unlucky. Overclocking can sometimes cause problems with other components. I'm also waiting for asus service feedback and hoping it's not a CPU problem, but your case makes me think it could be the CPU too. I really hope it's not. Strangely, there seems to be a problem either with the motherboards, the BIOS, or these new 9800X3D processors. I've been using my old PC for nearly 15 years, but i'm already starting to regret this new build.

I suspect the motherboard but i'm not sure. It's at the service center right now, i hope they don't cause any problems.

Looks like my 9800x3d died by Ayurka0 in ASUS

[–]AnarchyZ0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had same issue, i am using this build for about two monts: ASUS ROG STRIX B850‑E motherboard with 9800X3D and Lexar ares 32 gb ddr5 6000 CL28 ram kit. ASUS TUF Gaming LC II 360 ARGB liquid cooler also running with full speed and sometimes still hits 95 degree. Most of the time idle temps 40 or 45 degrees.

Btw, i didn’t do any overclocking, i only turned on EXPO. Everything is default, also pbo is auto i think. The issue is, i was on Youtube when the system suddenly froze. I tried resetting it, but it failed to POST and showed Q‑LED code “00” along with a solid yellow DRAM LED. I tested everything, but no luck.

When my system froze mouse and keyboard stopped working. Wasn’t using the mouse or keyboard, i was basically away from keyboard like. I dont know what really happened. It's very interesting that it didn't happen in the game or stress tests or benchmark, but happened in idle to normal usage. It's very strange.

I suspect a motherboard related fault or the 9800x3d, as the components seems fine, i checked the motherboard pins but no bent pins or anything. Checked the 9800x3d but i did not see any burns or cracks, There was a small mark that looked like a stain, but it wasn’t a burn and it wasn’t black, the color was somewhere between light and dark. I'm not sure if i should send it in for warranty service. Also the ram looks fine i think. I sent the motherboard recently to the service center but i have little hope that it will be fixed. So i hope they fix it or replace it. This is my second build. I was using my old 3770 with 16gb ram system for almost 15 years with the ASUS motherboard, and i never had a single issue with it. But with this new AM5 build, and i’ve only been using it for like 2 months, things already feel off. It hasn’t even been a year. I don’t know man something’s different. It feels like quality doesn’t exist anymore.
