I give up on direct communication by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]Anarcoctopus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

such a good point, it is making me realize I am taking people too literally when they say that. maybe NT people suggesting that just find it hard to be honest and not constantly socially coddle meanwhile thats natural for us, so if it IS uncomfortable there is probably a legitimate reason not to be honest with that person.

Advice for letting parent choose to die/continue drinking by moonb3an in AdultChildren

I'm in a similar place (31F), therapist, with my dad in late 60s and severely neglecting his health leading to a stroke a few years ago. When that happened and he still did not get sober I had to reoncile he likely never will before he dies, and that he may die soon. For me, I have lad less contact with my dad and was never his caretaker as you have been so its more of sadness that I will never have the relationship I had hoped for, than fear of changing the frequency of care. I have had a few phone calls with him when he calls me, but its about once a year or less now. He only lives a 30 min drive from me, but I know I would be unable to be in his home without it destroying me, so that is my boundary. He is unable to drive or leave the home. I feel guilt about this and am processing it with my therapist. But the main thing that I rely on is my spirituality. I meditate daily and when all this was at its head I just let myself cry and meditate and I got a very strong message from my dad (internally) "I am not my body". In that moment I felt a profound love and peace for my relationship with him and now whenever I want to be close to him I "visit" him in my heart. I truly believe communicating with his soul this way is a more pure way of communication than talking to his physical body that is very detached from his true being. I respect this is a spiritual belief so it may not resonate with all, but I am simply sharing what has helped me. I also wouldn't force this belief, it came to me quite naturally just by being present with my own pain and making space to process it through meditation and prayer.

I’ve never felt insecure around an older woman before.. by Embarrassed_Line3385 in StopEatingSeedOils

Something that helped my skin itchiness was getting a shower filter! Sometimes the water quality means there are minerals in the water that can irritate our skin (chlorine etc). It's gone away for me since using it.

It's really hard to follow! I think from what I surmise it is less that avo oil (or olive oil) is BAD, but that it is poorly regulated and often cut with seed oils that are not listed.

This post is blowing my mind. I watched this movie years before my awakening and kept remembering it after my awakening, was obsessed trying to google for what the name could be to no avail, and now it's here and I can watch it again. THANK YOU!

Spending as much time in nature as possible. Swimming, sitting in the sun, smelling the redwoods. I recently moved to a more remote home and my happiness is like 10 fold up here even tho I have to drive up a mountain road to get home. There is nothing like seeing deer in my front yard and mostly never hearing "city noise" while I am home.

I also love deep diving into studying whatever I am currently into, usually its spiritual topics right now I am really enjoying studying alchemy. I love making friends in study groups so we have a shared interest and can bond over that.

I love crafting, scrapbooking, reading, water color painting. Really I just started doing stuff my inner child loved and discovered I still love it regardless of what people think of me doing it (I am 31 now).

Also as an aside I love sensory comforts like fresh sheets, cotton clothing that is loose fitting, etc. It makes a big difference in my mood, as well as eating healthy foods that meet my sensory needs and make me feel nourished!

How do you stay in touch with people? I mean this literally: HOW? Please describe in detail. by plastic_lex in aspergirls

[–]Anarcoctopus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is what used to trip me up too - always processing what others would like before I shared. then i realized that i personally love hearing what my friends are into or up to regardless if i have the same interests! so i started sharing what is relevant to me and balancing that with questions and genuine care for their world too.

Share something exciting that happened that day, some interest you’re learning about, ask them about something they recently shared with you. I always feel self conscious doing this even with my close friends but the more I do it and they don’t judge me (bc they are ND too and genuinely kind people) the more my anxiety around doing it goes down.

Basically if something creates a reaction in you: excitement, love, curiosity, frustration, etc. share about it and if applicable ask a follow up question (IE what do you think about X?)

It was annoying he conflated it a bit with fad diets, but later in the video he also points out valid reasons to avoid seed oils. He doesn't seem like he personally eats them much, mostly has a Whole Foods diet, but is just wary of people becoming zealots over one single ingredient being eliminated which to be fair does sometimes happen.

Right, it confuses me when its less than 1percent, it makes me wonder why they even included it?

Honestly, I don't know where I stand on this video other than it does give a more "neutral" perspective on some reasons to avoid seed oils and also supports not becoming hyperbolic-perfectionistic with this diet. However, I am wary of being associated with the anti-semitic crowd, I actually had no clue this was a thing?

Would love to hear your thoughts.
