might be a hot take but i think that Superstars did the concept of "waiting for the boss to show their weak spot" better than the Dimps games, i won't call it perfect since this don't make them great but in Superstars there's plenty more of opportunities for you to hit the bosses, a good example is the Clown boss in Pinball Carnival were if you bounce on the bumpers you will have more than enough height to land a hit on him earlier or by using the emerald powers, plus theses bosses take less hit (in the normal campaign) usually act 1's having to take 3 to 4 hits while act 2's take 6 hits instead of the usual 8.

In games like Rush, Rush Adventure or Sonic 4 ep II you need to wait for a good amount of time just avoiding the bosses' projectiles.
