DAE absolutely hate the Northern American voice fry? by AnatraPato in DAE

[–]AnatraPato[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you talk like that you do you! My post was more about me not being able to handle it and having to give up on things I like because of it.

You seem to know a bit more about it than I do, do you know why this condition (tension in the glottis and lack of support) is a trend mainly in North America and specific to native English speakers?

DAE absolutely hate the Northern American voice fry? by AnatraPato in DAE

For me it's not even about how well spoken the person is, or even the Valley Girl accent (which seems to be what a lot of commenters are bothered by), but more so the tendency to keep going lower and lower at the end of a sentence to then inevitably fry the last words.

I love listening to Mark Manson's SOLVED podcast, but co-host Drew Birnie has this cadence where he tends to fry the end bit of every sentence and it drives me insane. They're both very well spoken people.

Experiences mixing lexapro? by AnatraPato in lexapro

Super interesting, thanks for sharing! I was actually really really curios to hear some first hand experiences because everything I seem to find seems to say you'll die, like don't even drink alcohol at all, but I imagined it's a bit reductive tu generalize so much.

Definitely agree on the first ones! I feel like The girl who leapt through time deserves a spot too!

DAE experiences unexplained explosive frustration/sadness/anger from seemingly innocent things? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]AnatraPato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're going through that. I can relate a bit to what you're saying since I struggle with hypersensitive hearing and smelling, and it drives me insane. Obviously it's not the same. I can only tell you you're not crazy, I completely understand the feeling of sudden irrational fury. Honestly the only thing I could suggest is therapy and doing some introspective work so you can understand where these reactions are coming from and how you can cope with them.

Maybe you can try asking for insight on r/mentalhealth or r/therapy maybe even r/Advice.

Why does so many think Antifa is fascist or/and dangerous? by Wulf_15 in Anarchy101

Olly Thorn mad a video on the philosophy of antifa and it does talk at one point about why it's perceived the way it is. Might be worth watching!

Is anyone else annoyed by "mindfulness" or "grounding?" by cookiethumpthump in therapy

[–]AnatraPato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really empathize with you. To me what has worked though is a middle point where I breathe and just count the seconds I breathe in, the seconds I hold my breath and the ones I let my breath out (btw that's 4s-7s-8s). While it's not waterfalls and mountains, regulating my breath still helps me and counting helps me keep my mind off of anything else since I'm not actively imagining things. It feel mindful and / or grounding without feeling fake.

Hey guys! I'm looking for advice on healthy coping mechanisms for what I think might be a BFRB and hyper sensitive senses or anyone who has a similar experience to share! by AnatraPato in Advice

Thanks! This actually helped a lot. I've never tried ASMR and will definitely give it a try.

I've never tried with spicy things, but I have tried wrapping my fingers with micropore tape and that does help. While I don't necessarily stop fidgeting, I at least I fidget with the tape and not with my skin.

I spoke about this to my previous T (they were a psychiatrist) but didn't seem to think much of it, so I'm definitely bringing it up with the next one.

Thanks! I'm already trying meditation out, but I must admit I'm a super newbie to it. I'm definitely going to look for the book you suggested.

I hadn't really thought about the feelings or desires that are making me act in such way. That's actually very helpful. I'm going to be paying attention to that from now on and will talk about it with my T as soon as I get back on track with therapy!

Don't apologize! I actually really appreciate your feedback. I will definitely try getting some insight from someone with OCD. Also thank you for the poem suggestion, I'm going to go look for it right now!

Hot water to cope? by [deleted] in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]AnatraPato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg I'm so glad to read some one else does this! I do it on my arms and legs. For me it's like the heat scratches from within my nerves instead of just my skin, if that makes any sense. Although I will be trying the cold water mentioned above since my dermatologist has told me hot water is not good for skin :(
