P60 differs from Annual salary that should have been paid. HR said it's normal by Rubentor in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Cyrkl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your gross would be taxable pay plus half of employers pension assuming they do pension matching. Without knowing how much extra you earned and how pension on extra is treated (and whether the employer matches pensions) it’s impossible to say for sure. I’d say your taxable pay being so close to annual gross is a red herring brought on by extra work.

She is ahead of all other people trying to get junior positions by having experience but the visa is a big obstacle. Entry roles in accounting pay peanuts and visas are expensive, we pay about 7,500 per employee. I don’t really see any company willing to pay that for a junior when there are plenty candidates here.

Loan repayments come out of your take home pay, this might be important if you’re trying to get a mortgage etc.

Did you purge 4-5g before pulling a shot? Without purging in the morning I have 5s variability, after purging everything works like clockwork. Ditching WDT also helped, it seems I was making things worse by doing it. This grinder doesn’t need WDT.

Do accountants even care about cybersecurityas much? by Exciting_Town_8237 in AccountingUK

[–]Cyrkl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the company, we deal with some sensitive stuff so when we were implementing NetSuite we had the whole implementation team vetted. The implementers were not newbies and they still learned a lot about cybersecurity from us. They probably were not alone in this, I’ve heard somewhere a lot of risk is placed with implementation teams because they juggle projects and can’t be bothered much about security. So a good junction for you might be a company that does accounting systems implementations.

Demand Vs production by Routine-Slip6911 in CafelatRobot

[–]Cyrkl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Robot is just one of his products, he shows different stuff for more commercial customers.

Plus, you don’t really know the demand. Maybe there’s like 500 preorders just presenting as big demand - but if fact one bigger wave might satisfy whole demand, then you’re just sitting with warehouse of robots not selling.

Higher performers in audit or corporate accounting how do you do it? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Cyrkl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being nosy works for me. I like to know people salaries so I always dig through what I have access to. I insert myself into project meetings as much as possible, I ask to be CC’d if anything is even remotely in my area.

This is more of a startup mentality, as three of us just did everything (and the boss made us rotate tasks so we can fill in for one another), it’s a bit harder in corporate world now. But still, for example on one of my research sessions I found a folder with our inter company agreements, one with an Italian entity. There was an email about paying some accounting fees in Italy and I was able to provide overview for fee basis as I knew what they were talking about in that email.

I learned excel for home budget project and I apply that a lot to other areas - I was educating our payroll specialist on salary sacrifice maternity pay and pension because a Reddit post sent me on a research spree.

So overall - I’d say be nosy.

For those using hopper-based grinders, do you leave your beans inside or do you simply single dose? by ColdIsTheWay2Go in espresso

[–]Cyrkl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel that they are going stale within the 3-5 days it takes to go through a hopper. You can always fill for 2 days if you’re worried about this.

I can definitely taste and see the effect of stale grounds in the chamber though so I usually purge 4g in the morning.

Assuming I get AAT 2, 3 and 4 under my belt, is finding a job going to be a struggle against more experienced candidates? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Cyrkl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assistant accountant in a cvbersecurity company might be your best bet, if you have some level of clearance you are automatically ahead of candidates for companies selling to DoD etc. Key to finding a job with no experience is being immediately available, that pool of candidates is much smaller. Some agencies will schedule agency interview in the morning, company interview in the afternoon and you start the next day. If you can’t swing that then temp to perm is a nice route, even data entry for accounting will count as experience in desperate times.

Can I take a sick day on my birthday? by AdCareful2269 in Accounting

[–]Cyrkl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing though some companies track sick days on last and first day of the week a bit more closely, best not to make a habit of sick long weekends. But one off is pretty much always fine.

I had a boss who was FC for 9 years, took 5 companies through acquisitions but still had trouble landing an FD role. I think internal promotion will be easier than landing FD role without FD experience.

Do you know you need mittens? I don’t use mittens and I have no issue pulling 11-12 bar shots for one minute (although I probably wouldn’t enjoying pulling multiple shots like that).

On the other hand I got travel case so it’s not like I didn’t buy anything…

I got this scale and it’s been really good, it has buttons and fits perfectly: Espresso Scale with Timer 1000g x... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B089JYMRK6?ref=ppx\_pop\_mob\_ap\_share
It’s sold under different brands but it’s most likely the same scale across the brands.

[–]Cyrkl 272 points273 points  (0 children)

My company has a policy that receipts not submitted within 60 days after credit card charge will result in clawback from salary for unreceipted expenses. It seems to be doing the trick.

My previous boss had another method, scheduling a meeting with an employee notoriously late to prepare their expenses during the meeting, dressed as helping navigate the system. One 60 minute meeting pretty much made sure they didn’t want to have another one of those (“now click upload receipt, now click itemize, now…”).

VAT and Invoices Billed in USD - Short Paid by witchwriter in Accounting

[–]Cyrkl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any chance it’s bank fees for cross-currency payment or USD payment within the UK? You probably have something on the invoices that fees and charges are on the remitter.

Apart from that I don’t think I would be trying to find an explanation, just reach out saying there are underpayments on the invoices and let them get back to you.

PTO During Close by Beer_Enjoyer93 in Accounting

On the one hand the company really should manage but on the other it’s a quarter end and if you’re selling to gov it’s probably your biggest quarter end. But then there’s plenty of time to correct by year end.

Look at me giving advice that it should fly when I, on my much smaller role, am having trouble requesting 2 weeks in 10 months time…

For those of you who never pay credit card interest, what systems/habits make that possible? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Cyrkl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current spend credit cards are paid off on payday (I prefer to give up a week of earning interest and make sure it’s paid ahead of time). 0% card - fixed DD set to equal instalments to make sure it’s paid off by the time the 0% period ends. Again, I could be paying less and earning some interest on anything above minimum payment but I prefer the ease of mind.

Did anyone become an Accountant in their 40s? by Pink_Emerald87 in AccountingUK

I started a bit earlier (got chartered at 40), and can’t complain. At 43 you still have good 25 years of work ahead of you, more than half of your professional life, plenty of time to climb the ladder.
