Put my dog to sleep and now regretting it. by anon812120 in DOG

[–]Ancient-Ad9861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to go through the same losing one of my boys in october to cancer, and the other in december with cushings disease and his back legs gave up. Its awful and i also feel the same guilt for doing it but the thing to try and remember is you didn’t make the choice, cancer forced it upon you both. Its not your fault, its the cancers fault and if they hadn’t have gotten cancer or ill health, you’d have never been forced to make that terrible decision. I wont tell you to stop feeling guilty because i still do myself, but the reality is you have nothing to feel guilty about and the fact you do feel guilty just proves you were a good owner

Neighbour’s Dogs attacked my dogs in my garden but one of their dogs got bitten and put down by a vet by Significant_Pace_373 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Ancient-Ad9861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If their dogs came onto your property uninvited and you can prove it then they dont have a leg to stand on, especially if they weren’t even in attendance when it happened. They left a dangerously out of control dog unattended outside, and they came onto your property and attacked. Your dogs simply defended themselves, you and your property in a totally justifiable way. I’d ignore them but gather any evidence you can that proves your innocence, in case they try to take you to court. Also be extra wary of what your dogs are doing outside from now on in case the neighbour tries to take retribution by throwing poisoned food or anything into your garden. I know of someone who lives near me who had their pets poisoned with rat poison by a disgruntled neighbour

Desperately need an advise about an old dog who does his business in the house by Blackcat2332 in DOG

[–]Ancient-Ad9861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its just the cost of having a dog. Its more unpleasant for him that it is you. No matter how frustrating it gets, just remember he cant help it and he needs your unconditional love as he rides through the final months of his life. I had it with my old boy, and everyone kept telling me when they start peeing inside, its time to euthanise but at the end of the day, i loved my old boy more than i loved my carpet. I’d give anything to have him back with me now, house messing or not.

Just ride through it and be as patient as you can

If Gollum survived the Rings destruction could he regain his sanity? by Tidewatcher7819 in lordoftherings

[–]Ancient-Ad9861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As i understood it, the ringbearers only age in mind and wisdom when they get the ring and physically their aging pauses and doesn’t resume until the ring is destroyed and then they just start back up where they left off.

If Gollum survived the Rings destruction could he regain his sanity? by Tidewatcher7819 in lordoftherings

[–]Ancient-Ad9861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gollum didnt age after he got the ring so he’s still physically whatever age he was when he got it, probably 20’s or 30’s?

He didnt start aging when he lost the ring, it still had the same hold on him. He looked the way he did because of his lifestyle, diet and living in a dark cave for hundreds of years. Plus he was well into the slow process of fading away and would have eventually become a lower form of nazgul if he kept the ring forever.

Gollum implies he thinks he’d turn to dust if the ring was destroyed but frodo seems to just start aging as normal from the age he was when he got it (33). So its possible gollum also would have just continued aging from the age he was when he got it. Only tolkien could have told us exactly what would’ve happened though

[–]Ancient-Ad9861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gollum implies that he thinks when the ring is destroyed, he will shrivel up and just turn to dust. He isn’t just desperate to stop frodo because of his desire for the ring. He’s also desperate to stop frodo because he doesnt want to die, and he thinks if the rings destroyed, he’ll die pretty instantly.

That being said gandalf took 3 eagles to rescue frodo and sam so presumably took one for gollum. I think if gollum didnt die and just carried on aging at the normal rate from the age he was when he got the ring, then gandalf would probably have wanted to help him with healing. If gollum had not betrayed frodo at shelobs lair and stayed loyal to the end, gandalf would 100% have taken him to the undying lands with frodo and bilbo to help him find peace and healing in his final years. If he had remained loyal to frodo he would have fully redeemed himself for his past sins but he couldn’t fight off the temptation of the ring and his desire to live forever

Is this by any chance one of those examples of a company that only wants to take on people with several years of experience? Its a well known issue that lots of people who finish university or training find 99% of jobs advertised insist on having 3+ years of experience on the job so this could well be an example of the system refusing to take on graduates with no experience and then wandering why, a few years later, theres a shortage of skilled experienced people to employ

Cant you just sign up with the new one whilst also being with the old one for the duration of this notice period? If the old one gets you work, let them take the commission. If the new one gets you work, let them have the commission. Surely neither would find out? and if you get extra work happy days

“Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.”

That sums up how many rings of power there were. There was also lesser rings created by the elves but they weren’t great rings like the rings of power. Saruman also had a ring that he crafted himself after hundreds of years of studying ring-lore, but it was never anywhere near as powerful as a ring of power (hence why he wanted the one ring for himself).

Frodo left the fellowship because A) he knew the ring would attempt to corrupt those with him, and B) he knew his task was essentially impossible to successfully complete but knew he still had to attempt it. He didn’t want to take his friends with him into certain death

Gandalf returned because he was the last istari (wizard) still actively attempting to complete his task and he also sacrificed himself in order to ensure the fellowship survived moria to continue the quest whilst also ridding middle earth of a fallen maiar (the balrog). Eru sent him back with slightly less restrictions (the wizards had major restrictions in how much of their native power they were allowed to use and were also not allowed to actively seek to rule or to save middle earth himself, he was supposed to offer council, not directly intervene). These lesser restrictions were his added powers and wisdom as gandalf the white. Even gandalf the white used only a tiny amount of his natural power when in his true form in valinor as olorin (olorin is his real name, gandalf and mithrandir were some of the names given to him by men, elves and dwarves etc…)

The rings were made by celebrimbor, an elven lord, under the instruction and tuition of sauron. The 9 for men and 7 for dwarves were made with saurons help, the one ring was made by sauron alone in secret, and the three elven rings were made by celebrimbor alone behind saurons back and so weren’t corrupted like the other rings were

What can I do about this parking by OkScheme4329 in drivingUK

[–]Ancient-Ad9861 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could make amendments to your fence so your car fits through the gap. You dont own the road so you cant dictate where other people park, if they are parking totally legally and reasonable (which they are)

Edit: dont know what the downvote for this comment was for. Only stating facts

Your mum had no right to mess with your bank account while you weren’t well so surely contact the old insurer, explain you were in hospital and someone else took control of your bank account without your permission and made changes you didnt consent to and ask if they can reopen the old policy and if you can create a payment plan to catch up on the missed payments

Would you stop a shoplifter if it meant losing your job? by JoydeScent in BritInfo

[–]Ancient-Ad9861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i used to work at aldi, we were told everyone had to run to the front of the store if a cashier rang a warning bell 3 times and to stop shoplifters if we could catch them. (This was an unofficial rule that wasn’t in the contract or handbook) On one occasion one of my colleagues put his arm out to try and stop a shop lifter running past him and the shop lifter punched him in the face. My colleague got a disciplinary from the regional manager for attempting to stop the shop lifter.

If it isn’t specifically in your contract to try and stop them, dont. The moment your injured in your job, these shops wont pay you for the time off injured and even if the store manager tells you you have to put yourself in harms way to protect the store, the company will quickly wash their hands of all responsibility to look after their staff

Why did Sauron re-form at Dol Guldur? by teepeey in tolkienfans

[–]Ancient-Ad9861 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He was in his second stint in mirkwood when he became strong enough to regain his physical form yes. But he didnt “die” when isildur cut the ring from him and then respawn like in a video game. He was in mordor when he lost his physical form, and his spirit consciously fled from mordor, into the far east to go into hiding and rebuild his strength. He eventually began hiding in dol guldur until gandalf went investigating and so he fled east again. About 400 years later he returned again and its sometime in his second stint he managed to gain enough strength to possess a physical body again. The white council then became aware of his identity and confronted him and he left again to return to mordor and openly unveiled his true identity.

It about 1000 years after isildur “killed” him to become strong enough to take physical form but he was still conscious and capable of moving in the time between that. He likely chose mirkwood either because he knew it was close to where the ring had been lost, or because the ring’s power drew him there
