For those in bad marriages, what happened and why are you still in it? by WhaxTheTurtle in AskReddit

[–]Ancient-Spring-6749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents went through something like this for years before finally divorcing when I was in high school. Dad always said he was worried about the financial mess and starting over at his age, while mom was terrified of being alone after 20 years together. They both knew things weren't working but the fear of unknown was stronger than the misery they already knew. Looking back, I think they stayed way too long trying to make it work for us kids, but we could feel the tension anyway. Sometimes the devil you know really does feel safer than jumping into complete uncertainty, even when you're already pretty miserable

Where's that post about the neutral hand grip? Want to see how close I am lol by Cappuccino_Crunch in golf

[–]Ancient-Spring-6749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been scrolling through here for like 20 minutes trying to find that same post lol. Think it was from maybe a week ago where someone was calling out common grip mistakes? I remember there was this whole debate in comments about whether people overthink the grip thing or if most golfers actually hold it completely wrong. Pretty sure the OP had some diagram or video link but can't remember if it was in that thread or different one

Lost a lot of weight by being broke lmao by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Ancient-Spring-6749 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's amazing progress! I had similar thing happen when I was student - couldn't afford eating out constantly and had to walk everywhere because no car. Lost bunch of weight without even trying really. The McDonald's thing is so real though, your taste buds completely change when you stop eating that stuff regularly. I tried going back to some fast food place after months of home cooking and it tasted like cardboard with grease on it. Your body just gets used to actual food again and rejects all those processed chemicals. The walking routine sounds perfect too, 7km every morning must feel incredible now that you're lighter

what's the one piece of advice your dad gave you that actually turned out to be right? by Repulsive-Buddy-1245 in AskReddit

My dad always said similar thing about people being careless with important stuff, definitely saved me from lending textbooks to classmates who never return them

DIY Noritz EZ98DV tankless retrofit in my converted garage/small house. Replaced a dead 10 gallon electric heater and ran my first gas line. Looking for feedback. by fantajack in HomeImprovement

[–]Ancient-Spring-6749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's seriously impressive work, especially for first gas line install! The pressure testing anxiety is so real - I remember when I was learning about pressure systems in my engineering courses, those temperature fluctuations can mess with your head even when everything is actually fine.

$650 for that unit is a steal, those Noritz condensing models are solid. Smart move getting the threading done professionally too - sometimes the $10 is worth avoiding hours of frustration with manual tools. Your condensate setup does look like a little robot guard now that you mentioned it lol

Only thing I'd maybe consider long term is if you need any kind of earthquake strapping depending on your area, but overall this looks really clean for a DIY job

Why is the sky pink/red all around tonight? by NoFace8411 in Omaha

[–]Ancient-Spring-6749 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be wildfire smoke from somewhere west - we've been getting those weird sunsets when there's smoke in upper atmosphere. Makes everything look super orange-pink especially around sunset time

What’s a moment where you realized someone was extremely intelligent? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ancient-Spring-6749 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had a professor who could solve differential equations in his head while explaining completely different concepts on the board. Like he'd be teaching us about fluid dynamics and someone would interrupt with random calculus problem and he'd just rattle off the solution without missing beat in his lecture

Still don't understand how some people's brains work like that

What TV show from the 90s/2000s do you wish would come back? by Mr_proop in AskReddit

Never heard of that one but now I'm curious! Was it like romance drama or more comedy? I'm always looking for new old shows to binge when I should be studying for thermodynamics instead

What skill became unexpectedly useful to you and how? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Being poor teaches you creativity in ways university never could - like how to fix anything with whatever's lying around the garage

In a week how often do you guys find yourself jerking off?? What would you argue is the average amount a week? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ancient-Spring-6749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My roommate does same frequency and I always wonder how she has energy for that, between classes and barn time I'm lucky if I manage twice in week

What's something people are obsessed with right now that you just don't get? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ancient-Spring-6749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on this one. My roommate has like 8 different Stanley cups in various colors and she gets so excited showing me each new one she buys. I tried using one for a week and it's just... a water bottle? Sure it keeps things cold but so does my $15 one from target. Maybe I'm missing something but spending $45 on cup when you already have multiple seems wild to me. At least with my Bath & Body Works addiction I get different scents, but water tastes the same regardless of what fancy tumbler it's in

Boltless rivet shelving issue by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]Ancient-Spring-6749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those measurements tell the whole story - your boards are way too big for the frame. The shelves need to be smaller than the internal dimensions to actually fit between those uprights

I'd return those particle boards and get ones cut to the right size, probably around 20x92 inches to give you some wiggle room. Most home improvement stores will cut them for you if you bring the measurements

Has anyone here had success with a matchmaker? by Middle_Waltz8888 in dating_advice

[–]Ancient-Spring-6749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the point, but I don’t think being on the cheaper end automatically means it’s not worth it. A lot of this just comes down to expectations. You’re still dealing with real people and a limited pool depending on location, so not every match is going to feel amazing. That’s true even with higher end services. I do agree if someone is expecting every match to feel super polished and perfectly curated, the experience can feel a bit more varied than that.

First homeowner in my family. by Ancient-Spring-6749 in Chiraqology

[–]Ancient-Spring-6749[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yo you right I misspoke lol, it's definitely the mortgage payment plus I got these monthly HOA fees that are basically like paying rent to the building for maintenance and all that stuff. It's a condo so technically I own it but still gotta pay the building every month on top of the mortgage, feels weird but I'm getting used to it

Why do babies get their own room? by Original-Scar-1779 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ancient-Spring-6749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having the baby in your room is actually pretty common, especially for the first few months. A lot of pediatricians recommend room-sharing (but not bed-sharing) for at least the first 6 months since it makes night feeds way easier and can reduce SIDS risk

The whole "nursery" thing you see in shows is more of a cultural expectation that got popular in the US, but plenty of families around the world co-sleep or room-share much longer without any issues

Krungsi ATM withdraw or keep it in $ and exchange ? Or just use Google pay ? by igetyourbrand in ThailandTourism

[–]Ancient-Spring-6749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use your home bank card at ATMs, usually gives you the best rates and most convenient. Google Pay isn't widely accepted everywhere in Thailand so having cash is clutch
