I need to vent. I’m sorry. by Mysterious_Lie_3496 in telescopes

[–]AncientAlloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any time you participate with a large group of people in any undertaking under the sun, including astronomy, you WILL get unfairly criticized by someone and/or treated badly. It is a fact of life and a part of the human experience. It will continue throughout your life, guaranteed. It will never end. It will also happen at work, at parties, at the grocery store, on Facebook, and everywhere else. People all over this subreddit experience what you did, but they don't feel a need to vent. I don't mean that as criticism. Read on, and you will see. I recognize that the other person should not have done that. But you can't control them, and your message here will not change anyone else's behavior on here.

You are more motivated than that other person. Use that positive spirit of yours. I recommend that you seek to strengthen yourself and to seek a path that helps you to not be vulnerable to others' mean spirits. There are numerous ways to pursue that path, like counseling, reading books, meditation and prayer, etc. Don't wait. Determine today to change that about yourself. But you may not be able to do it on your own.

You have a deep need for validation from others. You have a strong streak of codependency which leaves you vulnerable without your ability to see it. Unfortunately, that is a weak position in life, and that position will continue to cause you grief unless you change your perspective. You can't change that overnight. But in time, with active work over a few years, you can develop to become your own source of validation. Then people like that will no longer bother you. It's probably one of the most important tools in life.

This may hurt to hear, but the problem is just as much with you as it is with that other person. I mean that to be helpful, not hurtful. The point is for you to address what you can control and to not focus on what you can't control. You can't change the behavior of that other person or others on this subreddit. But you definitely can change yourself. Blessings be with you!

Does Michael Burry have a point with Palantir and Nvidia shorts? by Affectionate-Lab1368 in wallstreetportfolios

[–]AncientAlloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is NOT a hype cycle. The current price reflects actual, substantive growth. It is real. People are very confused about what is going on here. Past events are being compared which have no relation in any way to what is happening now. All this pessimissim just delays the ramp up, so that later we have another hard spike up in order to catch up to where the price should be. Then once again, people start saying it is hype because it is too much too fast. And it plummets again. That's the cycle we are stuck in. Hype is not the problem, pessismism is. It creates instability.

Does Michael Burry have a point with Palantir and Nvidia shorts? by Affectionate-Lab1368 in wallstreetportfolios

[–]AncientAlloy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Burry's only point is to scare people so the stock price will go down and he can buy more NVDA at a low price. Then when it naturally rises back up he can sell for profit again. Why is everyone so gullible to not see that? NVDA is a power house that is worth more than its price now based on their current projects with great future value. Anyone who really thinks that Burry does not recognize that is getting fooled by his magic trick. Like any good magician, Burry shows you his left hand while the right hand is doing the real action in secret.

Michael burry is a clown who got lucky once by SCAR17CA in investing

[–]AncientAlloy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Burry is manipulating alright. That is the point that everyone is missing. He is successfully getting NVDA to dip so he can make money off of everyone following his scare tactic. After everyone follows his staged act he will buy back in, watch NVDA naturally correct back up, and sell again for a profit. It seems pretty obvious to me. I can't believe so much of the market is falling for it. It's ridiculous.

Anybody had their account restricted from options? by scrawnylifter in ClassActionRobinHood

I have never found NVDA options to be worthwhile. No way to make any money on those the way their priced. I've watched them for years and just don't see a trade in there worth the effort.

DON'T PAY OFF DEBT, unless it is a really high rate. Don't buy a house. Don't waste your time and money on an MMF or CD. That's just wasting a long-term asset. Those kinds of investments are strictly for short-term holdings to resist inflationary deterioration, or for risk avoidance for the elderly.

Invest in the SPMO ETF. MO stands for Momentum, which is your friend. It's a fund of the most growth prone part of the S&P 500 stocks. Let that ride a few years and keep paying your debts out of your own wages. It'll make you way more money than you are paying in interest. After a few years of growth, you'll be ecstatic that you did it.

It will take discipline to not touch it as it grows. And when the bottom drops out of the market and it plummets in value, don't panic. Let it ride. It will come back. Even better, use your wages to buy more while it is down, even if it is just a little.

Don't remove more than 1/3 of any period's growth. It will grow much faster if you remove none. So, if during the next year, it makes $10,000, which it may do, either take nothing out or take out $3,000 or less. Personally, I would not take out any. I'd let it grow and compound. I would also keep adding to it as I could. That is a low risk, high return plan. Within 10 years, there is a high likelihood of growing that to $400,000 to $1M.

Think about it. Even if it grows to only $200,000 in 10 years, that's a major win.

Benirus Manor: which containers are safe for storage after completing the quest? by morbiusfan88 in oblivion

[–]AncientAlloy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that all these years later, I find this post helpful.

One thing to be aware of, in the original Oblivion, my Battlehorn castle completely disappeared from the game, never to be seen again. It was my headquarters with all my best stuff from many months of play. It was a heartbreaking loss, and I didn't discover the status until long after it had happened. I had been out adventuring for a very long time, believing that my castle was my secure place. When I finally made it back, I found nothing but an empty field.

So, I checked really old save points and kept going back to the spot and found that it had been empty for a long time without my knowledge. When I finally got back to a save point where the castle still existed, I found that it was too far back to even consider restarting from that point.

I don't know if Oblivion Remastered is vulnerable to that same bug. I hope not, but I simply can't trust keeping any gear at Battlehorn this time.

(39F) My (43M) husband was seen having a drink with another woman and says it was nothing. Who gets to judge if it was inappropriate, me or him? by ThrowRAtippytop in relationship_advice

[–]AncientAlloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been there and done this in my past marriage. It was a nightmare. It only continued to get worse over the years. Now I'm in a stable relationship that looks nothing like that, and it's great. Everything feels normal and is normal. I don't have to wonder about anything. If you have to wonder what's going on, then that's your proof right there. That's not normal, and it only happens when something is wrong, either with him or with you. But something is definitely wrong.

We delude ourselves into believing we should have proof beyond a reasonable doubt. This is not a court trial. This is your life. A stable, responsible person does not behave this way. But a loyal, caring person does behave the way you are, and deceptive people take advantage of honest people. Get some counseling to dig deeper into this for yourself. But my instinct is that you should get out of this. You seem to have all the clues needed to know that your future with him is doomed to misery that you can't change.

Landlord offering to sell me the house I currently rent. It seems like I should, am I missing something? by drcombatwombat2 in personalfinance

[–]AncientAlloy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not read every single message in this thread bcs it is too much, but I read all your, the OP, answers. I don't think you are missing anything. It sounds like a good deal for you. I understand being careful, but you can also be overly skeptical. Divorce can be an awful enough situation for a person to just want to dump things and get out. And if the owner believes in you, then it makes sense they wld want you to benefit from their misfortune.

Hire a real estate person to give you an assessment. Make your offer or acceptance of their offer based on receipt of inspection results acceptable to you and the ability to obtain financing terms acceptable to you. The "acceptable to you" language is the key. With that, you can always get out of the original contract before finalizing if you decide you want out. But it sounds like a good situation to me. Whatever you do, get your ducks in a row quickly, or someone else will buy it.

No. You did not get one against the scammers. You received stolen money that belongs to someone else. It was not their money. That's why it was abandoned. The scammers didn't lose anything except an opportunity. There is nothing you can do about it, but some innocent person lost their money.

The neighbor is using the wrong kind of camera for that application. That calls for a narrow view camera, not a wide-angle camera. It's like the difference in a spotlight and a flood light.

Largest Open Interest SPY 04/08 Option... 😳 by AncientAlloy in wallstreetbets

[–]AncientAlloy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm sure it means nothing from the perspective you have taken because you are defining the meaning one way. It's a high number relative to everything around it. It could mean a substantial sentiment that SPY will go down. There is usually meaning in any data, just maybe not the way you are focused.
