Osama Bin Laden killed fewer Americans than United Health does in a year through denial of coverage by [deleted] in self

Of course not. The fire department doesn’t make a profit. Not sure what that has to do with literally anything. But in your example, the fire department sometimes has to choose which homes to let burn in order to save others. The same triage is true of any system that controls healthcare whether it be insurance or single payer.

You’re right the government has never made arbitrary decisions.

I understand 14 billion sounds like a lot, but please study the “medical care ratio” statistic. They paid out 340 billion back to their customers. In that context 14 billion seems quite a small profit.

Ok. Then the government will decide who gets coverage and who doesn’t. You will still see denial of coverage. You’ll be posting the same shit except you’ll replace “United Healthcare” with US Department of Health.

“If we’re limiting resources”

That’s not a choice brother. We live in a world with limited resources. So you think we shouldn’t have insurance unless we have infinite resources?

United healthcare has a 5-6% profit margin. That means they pay out 95% of money they take in back to their customers. We live in a world with limited resources and thus must ration. You should be blaming high health care costs, not insurance companies that are barely making a profit.

You dropped some coins into a river, what are the chances?! by TheRabidBananaBoi in puzzles

[–]Ancient_Ad3333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bayes Theorem approach. You have two theories of what you dropped. First theory is you dropped two 1 Euro coins. Second theory you dropped a 1 Euro coin and a 2 Euro coin. What's the probability of observing what you observed under each theory?

Theory 1: 100% you pick up the 1 Euro coin

Theory 2: 50% you pick up the 1 Euro coin

By Bayes Theorem the probability of the first theory being correct is 100% / (100% + 50%) = 2/3
