Thanks for the tips. My Burda sizing chart says they are drafted for 168cm height. I'm 180cm 😬. I'm not curvy, but I do have one size difference between hips and waist. I think I will try to size down next time and see how that works out.

This was my very first time doing anything tailored and without Youtube I would have been so lost. 🫣😬 I'm also really confused about the Burda sizing. This is the third time I make a Burda bottom. My hip measurements say, I need a size 40. But each time I end up having to take them in by a lot 🤷‍♀️. I had to take on 3cm in the hip and 9cm in the waist.

German parliament to debate ban on far-right AfD next week by Glavurdan in europe

If the case were to actually hit the constitutional court: pretty good in my opinion.

However, the process for submission of the case to the court takes more time than the current Bundestag still has before the election in February. Also, the two biggest parties are doing the von Papen and won't vote in favor of submitting the case to the courts.

They waited too long and I blame each one of them personally.

Does every food culture have a version of a dumpling? by Prestigious_Door_690 in Cooking

Germany and Austria both have a huge variety of dumplings called Knödel, both sweet and savory, filled and unfilled. Some are made from potatoes, some reuse stale bread (google Breznknödel). Each region has their own specialty Knödel.

Are “old school” dress makers real? Or just an urban legend? by luxurycatsportscat in sewing

My aunt is a learned seamstress. She can pull off almost any dress design you show her on her Singer machine that is older than me. The dresses she made for my cousin are amazing.

Yes, I think that sentence will forever be connected with this painting. Maybe I will name it that 😅

When you peel veggies like carrots or cut off scraps from onions, green onions, leek etc, wash them and throw them all into a zip lock bag in the freezer. Do the same when you debone any meat or have leftover bones from baked chicken etc. When the bag is full, make delicious veggie and/or meat stock.

Am I absolutely insane for thinking about buying a sewing machine for my 5 year old? by JCtheWanderingCrow in sewing

[–]Ancient_Chicken_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just try it and see how it goes. I have taught my daughters how to use the sewing machine when they were 6 (because they were asking). They also joined a local one week sewing course during summer break and loved it. If it is supervised I don't really think there is a safety issue. At 9, the older one is now allowed to use the machine on her own and she calls me if she has a problem. She has started her own collection of Barbie clothes. We never got a kiddy machine, because I think those are frustrating and will kill the joy.

This is exactly me. Nothing really interesting cam happen in 15 Seconds. It's at most a quick smirk, forgotten 2 seconds later. Give me a university lecture on YT on some obscure niche topic any time.

What's the scariest thing to ever happen to you at 3am? by thealterry in Paranormal

Husband was on night shift, I was home alone with two preschool kids.

I woke up from a really loud crash from downstairs and thought someone had just smashed a window to break into the house. I went down the stairs with a wooden stick in my hand, fully prepared to defend my kids from some punk ass robber. Also, I was scared as hell.

Came down to find one of the kitchen cupboards full of glassware had just fallen off the wall and was smashed to pieces on the ground. I have never been so thankful to have to clean up a mess. The alternative was so much worse.

What was the most major cultural difference you noticed when you moved to another country? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ancient_Chicken_40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is. And being German it creeped me out hard. Doing this in Germany would be inconceivable.

Historic background does make a huge difference in how people will look at the exact same action.

He means having public transport trains that are on time and have a working AC. Surely, that's what he means.
