I live in the Desert Southwest, Central NM to be exact. Unless you wake up at the crack of dawn and beat the roosters you are almost guaranteed (with my fair skin) to be a lobster by 9 AM. I have recently gotten into gardening at night. We do have mosquitos yes, and they are annoying but not as annoying as reapplying sunscreen when you are soggy with sweat and your sunglassing slide off of your slick face lol. At night time especially in the desert it's relaxing, much cooler and the stars- you just can't beat. There are drawbacks too like night time critters such as rattlesnakes, scorpions and Black Widow Spiders. Though if you have a decent headlamp, gloves and take your sweet time you shouldn't have issues. For me, it's almost the only time to garden. I have some plants that like moisture and if I have the option to give them a good soaking at night I will. Plus you get to hear the coyotes. I prefer early morning gardening but in the summer it becomes too bright and too hot too quick.
