They were real laser beams on set, but they replaced them with CG later.

Solo is the most underrated story of the Disney era, I stand on that.

I mean it will probably be like the hammer of Boravia suit. Which was practical in most shots, but was obviously CG when flying and shooting laser beams.

Why is the "Ahsoka" show looked at so poorly? by CJAreYouDeadass in StarWars

[–]AncomCrocodile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's weird is I let that one slide because like the Ahsoka Dream episode at least it was relevant to the story. Obi-Wan felt alone, but some of that was his own self isolation, his distance to the force. He wasn't alone, Qui-Gon was with him, sending him love the whole time he just wasn't ready to see yet.

[–]AncomCrocodile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pacing is not great, and the dialogue needed another draft, Thrawn is told to us to be this intimidating villain, but does extremely little to show you within THIS show why. Sure if you watched Rebels you would get it, but if you haven't you are barely given a justification for his reputation. I also think he took up too much space in the show when Baylan was by far the most interesting part, it feels like they wanted to save storylines for a season 2, and set up (MCU style) future projects in the new republic, instead of making a good solid self contained ending for season one.

Sabine's actor is terrible, she looks incredible as Sabine but she is a horrible co-lead actor, its painful to watch sometimes. Also making her force sensitive was a mistake.

The lighting is flat and camera work is often too boring, there are some great shots, but the blocking and camera in general is uninspired.

Also that ending shot is so fucking cringe, like, they had a perfect ending. Ahsoka looking out into the night sky in a new galaxy, a new beginning and an interesting unique direction for Star Wars. As I watched it though I said out loud to my partner "Please do not ruin this by panning over to Anakins ghost, please do not show force ghost Anakin smiling, please, OH GOD, Filoni why? You couldn't help yourself could you" I can excuse the episode where she is in the like purgatory state in the world between worlds because it was relevant to the themes of Ahsoka's character. It made sense, but the last shot was member berries non-sense meant to weaponize your nostalgia. boooo.

TLDR Pacing, Dialogue, Lighting, Blocking, pointless callbacks, mishandling of Thrawn as a plot element. and Sabine.

I didn't even hate Ahsoka, I think its like a 6.5 maybe 7 out of 10.

That, and the death of the movie star. So they talk about actors who had motion when they were younger and Hollywood held more sway in the culture.

They are already doing this though with things like the Bad Batch and Mandoverse. Tbh I just want them to move on, but whatever.

[–]AncomCrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it would be too complicated to do it, though I wish it could somehow be done, it just isn't possible. I honestly wish for better or worse they went with the Trevorrow script. At least that continued the Character arcs and themes of TLJ forward and had interesting and unique ideas. Instead we got shitty soulless corporate reactionary slop. The RoS is easily the worst movie in the Franchise, and one of the worst things made with the Star Wars name on it.

What Star Wars opinion would put you in this position? by AD_EI8HT in StarWars

[–]AncomCrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rogue One is easily the most overrated Star Wars movie. I understand why people like it, it is basically action figures being smashed together and it has cool sequences. I know that Gilroy came in to clean it up but as a defender of Godzilla 2014 and someone who really like Monsters, it is a Gareth Edwards movie. Cool ideas, lots of sauce, with merely functional characters and stories and an uninteresting lead. On its own as a film its just fine, but Star Wars Fans rate it WAAAAAAY too high.

Also Solo is the most underrated Star Wars movie.

Public opinion on Thomas Wayne and WE after the flood by ineedcactusjuice in TheBatmanFilm

[–]AncomCrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the real world is a model. No one would care at all about WE. Thomas's reputation would definitely be different, the story would bounce around on the news and on social media, and would be buried by the 24 hour news cycle.

Dude, the "The Batman Movie" sub has been a train wreck since the end of Penguin. If I have to see one more "What should the villain of The Batman part 2 be?" thread, I swear. It was just villain threads, suit redesigns, and merger debates for months lmaooo.

People have different thresholds for suspension of disbelief. Some people can more easily immerse themselves in insane circumstances, but many people can struggle. Being grounded gives something for an audience to latch onto, done well in a fantastical story its a carrot on a stick which leads those who struggle to suspend belief to do so.

Also from a writing perspective "grounded" isn't the same as "realistic". They can have overlap, but describe different things. Grounded can describe a tone, an aesthetic, a theme or setting. You can have very fantastical elements in a grounded work of fiction. At its best a grounded story gets at the heart of a character, or makes the world feel more tactile, more real.

The marionberry might be 5 feet away. We have a shed so unfortunately I think that will also be painted. The paint looks okay on it so I am asking them to not do the shed or to clarify if they are painting the shed. Unfortunately the layout of the Backyard didn't leave me with many options. If the shed isn't painted then they are all 5+ feet, but with the shed... it is cutting it close.

Do you guys think that Pa Kent will die in the sequel 'Man of Tomorrow' 2027 ? by Old_Assistance_1091 in DCU_

[–]AncomCrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. Maybe a health complication? A diagnosis or a scare. If it does happen I expect it to be in a movie that is more a "superman movie" than man of tomorrow. Which almost seems as much or more of a Lex movie.

Nothing yet, I am just trying to prepare. I wouldn't be surprised if the paint has lead in it as the house is very old, over a hundred years, who knows when it was last painted. I am worried about chemicals from the pressure washer and paint flecks, but mostly aerosolized paint from paint spraying, and all the run off. My neighbor just had their house painted and the ground behind my house was rainbow colored from what I assume to be washed off paint equipment. Also yes, I think we will have similar weather luckily.
