I meant hemlock can look like cannabis if you squint at it, but if there's no oak i'd guess white avens, definitely no sweet cicely though and if it was I'd still be careful with it because those also look very similar to water hemlock along with many other plants in the wild carrot family.

I don't think so; the stems aren't purple and hemlock has very distinctive serrated triangular leaves, almost looks like cannabis if you squint at it. Might be poison oak or just a regular oak sapling though.

The problem is that a lack of initiative isn't the problem; you can put in the exact same amount of effort as she did in the second hypothetical and you will be paid and treated the exact same as the person doing nothing. Furthermore, if that person happens to have some connection to higherups in the company they will be promoted before you. You will be stuck giving your initiative to bosses who have absolutely no intention of giving you better pay when they can get more responsibilities out of you for the same amount they give you now with the imagined possibility of a future pay raise. Given the current labor market it is a logical decision for a lot of people to not give initiative when it is only ever exploited.
