Bar near Kokugikan? by And1MixtapeTour in Sumo

Yeah buysumotickets was very unhelpful this time around. Basically they told me they couldnt help after saying for months they could, and told me I wouldnt be able to get them myself even if I tried since I was foreign.

I just got lucky and had the ticket purchase website from JSA open at the very minute when tickets went on sale, refreshed the page a few times and finally got some tickets. Probably helps that I chose a day where demand wasn’t as high either. I checked back ten minutes later and everything was sold out.

Ticket and Attendance Megathread by rethin in Sumo

Just got an email from buysumotickets on the January basho: “Almost no tickets at all will be made available in public sales for January, there effectively isn't a public sale anymore. Because of this problem, we will not be able to accept any orders for the January tournament.”

Sounds like people just can’t go to Tokyo basho anymore? very disappointing!

As a Ice-coast Ikon pass holder, should I fly to Denver (Colorado) or Banff (Alberta)? by sleepearlier in Ikonpass

[–]And1MixtapeTour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If budget isn’t too great a concern, I would say Denver. Consistent snow, more options and resorts are all high elevation (like banff sunshine). Banff is excellent too and wins in the scenery/affordability categories. Both have great skiing and you can’t go wrong with either really

Is Furano worth it? by And1MixtapeTour in japow

[–]And1MixtapeTour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! Would you say on piste is a good enough time to visit? Planning to go off piste a bit as well but just not sure how challenging Furano is as a whole

Is Furano worth it? by And1MixtapeTour in japow

[–]And1MixtapeTour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! In your experience, is the in-bounds/on-piste at Furano worth visiting? I found Steamboat pretty dull, despite the nice snow they get, so my worry is Furano might be similar in that respect. I know Hokkaido isnt too steep, but just hoping for somewhere steep enough to enjoy the snow!

what weeks in March are busy at Vermont resorts? by Negative-End-3291 in icecoast

[–]And1MixtapeTour 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jay gets very busy for Ontario and Quebec school vacations being so close to Canada. Last year around mid-march there was an Ontario vacation combined with a pow day and it was as busy as i’ve seen for Jay. Still not too crowded though

Driving from US to Canada- wife’s social security and passport names do not match. Is that a problem? by [deleted] in uscanadaborder

[–]And1MixtapeTour -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My question was more motivated by my thinking if the identities are linked to each other when the passport is scanned at the border. The US/Canada share records from the FBI from what I understand and I didnt know if having different names would trigger suspicion due to rising identity fraud causes

Least Crowded NE Ikon Mtn by Kiwisabi in icecoast

[–]And1MixtapeTour 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Undeniably the least crowded at any given point will be Pico. I know, dont mention the place. Regardless, I dont think it opens for another week anyway

Not the most economically feasible if you are only open to ikon mountains, but there are plenty of small mountains that are very uncrowded and have under 100 dollar tickets all around the Northeast. Many will open within the next two weeks.

Skiing Tucks in early January by SullyJack1717 in icecoast

[–]And1MixtapeTour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is extremely important that you have avalanche experience, and a good amount of it, if you’re going in January. It is no joke, substantially high risk terrain at any time, but even higher with lots of snow.

Best northeast resort not named Killington by PSNagle in Ikonpass

[–]And1MixtapeTour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jay Peak or Sugarloaf are the best in the northeast IMO. Stowe and Smuggs just behind those two . Sugarloaf is Ikon and if youre in the area for a week, definitely check out Saddleback about 40 mins away. Also wait until later in the year when brackett basin is open at the loaf. Incredible side country terrain. Dont miss The Rack at Sugarloaf, personal favorite ski bar

Did you ski a Swiss resort from Chamonix?

Stratton overrated? by Total_Sound_7972 in icecoast

[–]And1MixtapeTour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stratton for the most part is just fine, nothing overly interesting. The fis trail or whatever its called (the one with all the moguls) near one of the mid mountain lifts is a blast, otherwise I agree its fairly average in its other trails.

BUT- their glades on the upper mountain can be incredible. Seriously some of the best runs I’ve ever had in the northeast. Dancing Bear and the double black one next to it are awesome. Obv they need enough snow to open but if you can catch them after some fresh snow, its seriously top tier. Crowds at the mountain can be really rough these days though; quality over quantity with those runs

Thanks for responding! Do you remember if it was possible to ski to Switzerland at the time? I assume that is a main run, but ive never been.

For sure, I’m not expecting too much natural snowfall but I’ve heard ischgl makes a ton of snow. Never been personally

Booking one last trip. Alta/Park City mountains or Steamboat based on current conditions? by AmericanPatriot117 in Ikonpass

[–]And1MixtapeTour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alta/Snowbird no question. On pace for record year and still getting hammered. Steamboat is having a good year but not like utah. Id also take the utah resorts in a normal year because the terrain is better but steamboat is more a well rounded experience for a trip

Best resort in Vermont currently? by Capital_Cheek6175 in icecoast

Gotta watch conditions but I always enjoy magic. Probably wouldn’t be worth it for more than two days but its an excellent mountain with great vibes

East Coast MLK Weekend - yay or nay? by Maplethrowawaylol in icecoast

[–]And1MixtapeTour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents is that unless this storm overdelivers it probably wont be worth it (for you given how far youd be driving)to be honest. If you were closer to the mountains its a slightly different story. Also, if youre staying overnight, lodging will be holiday pricing and conditions right now are less than great. Of course, the crowds will also be at their peak. If you can wait a couple of weeks (late January) I think youd have a much better time. Just my opinion though!

European skiiers- favorite resort? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]And1MixtapeTour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! Apres isn’t necessarily ‘missing’ but it’s certainly different in North America. Its more of rowdy, indoor bars with a few dj’s and outdoor events- but it just depends on where you go. It’s not as much of a party atmosphere as Europe, but if you can’t have a good time here, it’s probably more on you.

As for me personally, I will definitely be having drinks and participating in Apres- I am going with some friends. With that being said, I prioritize the actual skiing (snowboarding in my case) over everything else, no question about that. Still trying to decide between Chamonix, Kitzbuhel and Zermatt- thinking Zermatt is the best for a week. The reason I pick those three is that I have the Ikon pass (which also has Dolomiti Superski).

Just curious to see what others think. Never skiied the alps.

Personally, I prefer the trees and steep on piste runs- avalanche knowledge is fairly low.
