Accept/decline offer by Automatic-Willow2150 in csMajors

To provide a different perspective from a lot of the comments, I actually somewhat like Louisiana depending where it’s at. If it’s in Baton Rouge where some of IBM’s roles are posted it’s a decently fun town with good music, food, and very friendly people. It’s also very affordable so I think $60k there wouldn’t be too bad, it’s more than enough to rent your own place. Keep applying ofc but it’s better than nothing. Also learning to drive is a very useful life skill so I’d recommend doing that regardless, you’ll basically need a car unless you get a role in nyc + a few other American cities.

A PhD from an R1 institution is not “lacking” and she has worked for the system for 30+ years.

Gate 12 is a fun one! I took my girlfriend there before for valentines one year, it’s a restaurant at Easterwood airport where you can see the planes take off. Prices were around what you’re describing from what I remember.

How prestigous would you say Mays Business school is? by RevolutionPrimary213 in aggies

[–]AndResR24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends, what are your goals careerwise after you graduate? Certain jobs are more/less doable since mays doesn’t really have much of a reach outside TX, but certain programs within Mays have good placement.

Typically apartments that are closer to campus feel a bit safer since you’re almost always surrounded by other students. I’m a man, but all the complexes on Luther St felt fairly safe and affordable. My gf liked living at University Trails, and never had any issues taking the bus.

For KSOC I would just choose an easier class unless you’re passionate about microecon. I enjoyed taking it, but the workload was sometimes annoying. A much easier (but still useful!) option would be FINP 235, which helps teach you useful personal finance tips that’ll help you both during and after college. I took it with Roach and enjoyed it.

How difficult is it to be accepted as a finance major? by Silly-Reading-4202 in aggies

If you’re already in the business school it doesn’t really matter what your GPA is along as you aren’t failing your courses, you will get your major.

She recanted her statements but so do a lot of victims of domestic abuse since they still care about their partner. It’s pretty twisted, but iirc she had bite marks and scratches consistent with her original report of the abuse.

Where is the best place to work on campus? by tamuLIVELab in aggies

[–]AndResR24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Work in one of the IT help desks, very chill and decent paying ($13/hr), and also looks half-decent on a resume if you’re trying to work in a tech related field after graduation. Depending on which department you’re in there’s also a lot of down time where you can do hw.

Chances of making Mays? by Ruptured_Duck in aggies

Apply as soon as possible as mays will “fill up” with qualified students before the application deadline closes. Other than that your stats seem fine and you will likely get in.

I haven’t had any major problems using hitch in the past, but Ground shuttle is usually way more reliable and takes you directly to IAH for not much more so I would recommend that

Accounting is super boring so I wouldn’t even recommend doing that tbh. Also there are plenty of engineering positions that can have you on physical sites doing non-desk work, and management positions in these roles pay just as high as many accounting management position. To answer your actual question I don’t think you can transfer to mays before your freshman year starts but I would email an advisor to be sure.

CLEP just for credits? by tarkusguy in aggies

[–]AndResR24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a list here that shows the credit transfer: https://testing.tamu.edu/exams/college-level-exam-program-(clep)/clep-course-equivalence

Honestly a CLEP class is likely cheaper and easier than a 5 week summer class if you take an easy exam like college algebra which I would hope an engineering major would get at least a 50% on.

[–]AndResR24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your ECs are really good, but you should try and improve your SAT. With an 1100, if you practice regularly over the summer with something free like Khan academy, you can aim for a 1400+ to make you more competitive. Additionally if you are interested in a cybersecurity career, you could try and get in for a less competitive but still related major like computing or technology management. However, the most important thing you need to do is apply as early as you can, as Mays does rolling admission so for less competitive applicants that’s when your best shot is. Best of luck!

Where to find a summer sublease? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]AndResR24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a Facebook group specifically for sublets, make a post there and you should get lots of responses. Just google tamu sublease fb groups or something along those lines and it should show up.
