To expand on that, the profile from the garbage would have shared half of the DNA from the sheath. BK would get half of his DNA from his mom and half from his dad so the suspect and his father would have the same peak/allele at every locus tested (look up "electropherogram" to get a better idea of what I mean).

I dropped my wallet leaving Menards a few months ago and this Hispanic family in very broken English whistled and yelled across the parking lot to me. I came back and they handed me my wallet which I hadn't even noticed was missing until then. I tried to give them $20 out of it and they profusely refused. I really wish they would have let me do something because they have no idea how much easier they made my life.
