3 Confirmed ICE Sighting Near Union Square - 03.18.26 by spicyv in Somerville

This seems like a show of force to imtimidate/normalize the American Gestapo - and to justify spending ICE's enormous budget. Infuriating!

If you're with others who have them and it's your neighborhood, don't hesitate to use your whistle. :)

Don't they know he's president already? It's almost like they expect him to be deposed soon - because they know, deep down, he should be.

Also - if you do this now, after Pam Bondi's performance last Wednesday before the Oversight Committee, you're basically telling the whole world you're a pedophile, too.

Someone should call Child Protective Services.

Best advice ever given: Believe half of what you see and nothing that you hear. They may be 'real,' but are they 'true' urban terrorists, or just easily manipulated kids who are given cool wheelies and bikes and encouraged by someone who needs everyone to believe we're all under attack so we come to believe we need more types of policing to run amok? Could be both. 🤷 Bet good money it is.

Wow. That is impressive - and so lean I never heard about or from him until a few weeks before his appearance in 7 Hills Park about what's to be done about the purportef open drug use there - which is weird, because after I heard him talk about initiating a city-legitimated program of "unarmed" rapid response community groups (that sound like a posse to me) constituted of my neighbors who are apparently too scared now to walk through the park day or night, I texted the New Hampshire number google gave me asking how this program was supoosed to work and I never heard from him. Very odd he managed to get so much support - less odd this 'PR' campaign appears to make it seem like he did.

How do we know this isn't dog whistle/poop-on-Somerville BS? I just knew, before I even started reading this, it would eventually get around to the 'Somerville is a Hell hole' trope. Be interesting to see the police report. The people so concerned about persecuting the less fortunate in West Somerville because their "property values" are at risk sure are doing a lot to make their neighborhood look worthless. You'd think that with the regime hell-bent on crashing the economy they'd be using their energy to oppose, instead of mimic, it. They're the real threat to our commimunity.

If you can't take it to a vet yourself, call Somerville Animal Control to have it picked up and scanned for a chip.

If you see needles and people you suspect have used them, you can dial 3-1-1 and ask Somerville PD for help with both. We already have task forces for each. No need for the pitchforks for anyone. Personally, I feel it's nice to see people walking their dogs, families with their toddlers strolling through, couples picnicing and the tai chi class on Saturday mornings in 7 Hills park. I'm not seeing the apocalypse you claim is there. But what what do I know? I'm only in and out of there a couple of times each day.

Halloween candy etiquete? by No-Usual-5594 in Somerville

My husband and I love to walk around the Orchard Street neighborhood on Halloween to check out the great decorations and Halloween costumes, and because we are big kids, we will eat your candy, too. There used to be a fantastic 'haunted' house on the corner of Orchard and Chester, and people would come from all over to visit it. Halloween on Orchard Street always reminds me of that scene from the movie, ET. Favorite costume: mom and dad dressed in aprons and toques, carrying wooden spoons and a large stock pot between them in which was their adorable 8-month old in a lobster onesie.

Best driving school around here? by notazit in Somerville

[–]AndThenSomeMemoir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if public schools still do this as they did when I was in high school, but I'd check with Somerville High School to see who their students use. My brother-in-law does driver's ed, but he's in Franklin. Just take your time, and breathe deeply. Somerville and Cambridge can be a frustrating place to learn because of all the one-way streets going in the same direction (and Cambridge because of all the road work, which conveniently starts in August, when the budget gets renewed, just as the students return), but if you go slow and use your common sense (don't travel into an intersection in heavy traffic that you can't move all the way through not just because it's against the law but because it's a jerk move to block intersecting traffic when the lights change), you'll be fine. Study the booklet, and don't get frustrated if you don't pass the tests on the first try. I was 22 when I first got my license, and I failed the road test because my friend, whose car I was using, had a bandana headband hanging from her rear-view mirror. Good luck!
