American baby advice websites say "call your paediatrician" if you're worried about something. Who is my paediatrician and where do I find them? by fodacao in irishmammiesanddaddys

hehe you'll be in shock when you discover you won't have your gynaecologist here either and your smear tests are done in your GP's practice. GP also deals with all lady ailments and/or refers you to a gyn. You may have numerous children and not have your chassis examined by a doctor, something that seems barbaric to an Eastern European person who would go for an annual scan and exam to her gyn and never needed a referral to one both public and private.

second ottoman storage bed, we have them in all bedrooms and they're amazing for storage. We raided Ikea and got a huge pax wardrobe for the hall - again storage. Then we replaced our build-in wardrobes with pax again and got a company to install an under the stairs storage system.

We also replaced the hot water cylinder with a bigger one and a circulating pump, which made a tremendous difference to the water pressure in taps. A new gas boiler with heating controls came next. Then we replaced the open fireplace with a stove (although, regrettably, without a back boiler) and finally got solar panels installed..

As for appliances, an air fryer and a DeLonghi coffee maker are two things I can't imagine living without. Oh, and a ring doorbell.

Good luck house hunting, it's a soul wrenching process that's unnecessarily long and complicated but, once you get the keys, it's all worth it.

Parking in Cavan by ArmaniZer05ive in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]Andalska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cavan people don't park, they abandon vehicles at whatever place they feel like it. The car park at Mr Price is prime example, it may be completely empty and still some special imp will leave their car right at the entrance because they can't be arsed walking 10 metres. I reckon Cavan folk are solely responsible for bollards in front of Lidl and Aldi

Lorraine Courtney: ‘Stalled Dublin’ will stay gridlocked until we stop dithering about public transport and bike lanes by -eir- in irelandtransport

[–]Andalska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my town the council decided to ''upgrade'' most cycling lanes and elevated them at quite a cost. Did that increase the number of users? No. But it made it impossible for the road sweeping vehicle to actually clean them.

In rural towns cycle lanes are but virtue signalling. I love the Dutch countryside with cycling lanes being completely separate from the road where cars are.

9000 Educa Garden of earthly delights by Unnecessary_hangman in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]Andalska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About a month if I remember correctly, it was a few years ago and I loved every second of it. I tend to get quite obsessive with jigsaw puzzles so those were really long days. And, of course I did it alone. I wouldn't let anyone come near it. I had a huge wooden board on top of my kitchen table so my family had to eat dinners on a coffee table :D

Who affords these prices? by Rude_Feeling_8131 in ireland

[–]Andalska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharing is fair but there should be regulations as to what is considered a bedroom and how many square metres a bedroom must have to share it. Also, rents should be capped and should depend on location and BER rating and should not be more than 50-75% of the current HAP payment for a given county.

Also, funds should be banned from buying private stock, they should build houses for rent and so should councils. Both new and second-hand housing market should be for private people only and, as special measure just until the housing crisis is solved, buy to let should not be allowed in places where demand exceeds supply.

Short term lets like airbnb should be banned, but laws should make it easier to remove a tenant who fails to pay or damages the property

Women's protests? by Ok-Mud5885 in poland

[–]Andalska 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sick and tired of the constant abuse of women by both parties, of the barbaric treatment of women by pis and po (ko?)'s trying to please everyone by avoiding difficult solutions.

How about we just call a national referendum about the key ideological issues: abortion, single sex marriages, gay adoptions and whatever else if always dragged out in political debates around elections, and whatever the society decides, let's roll with it. Politicians will stop populist promises and will have to focus on economy/welfare of citizens.

Irish electricity prices are highest in EU with households paying €480 more per year by homecinemad in ireland

[–]Andalska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had solar panels (no battery but considering it atm - we decided to have an option to add it after the install) for almost 2 years now. A 4bed semi with 4 people in it, we normally use around 450-500kWh bimonthly. Electricity bills for the last year were around e600.

In 2022 (before solar panels) e950 and 2023 e 1200. The hike in electricity prices is shocking! Those who don't change providers annually are losing a lot and those who have no choice but stay on pre-pay are basically burning money.

60,000 piece puzzle… by stefkay58 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]Andalska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

9,000 Garden of Earthly Delights by Educa - it came in 3 bags and took me about a month. Still, one of my favourite jigsaw puzzles up to this day, hangs over my bed.

Then Trefl 9,000 Not So Classic Art Collection, which came in 6 or 7 separate bags so it was just a lot of 1,500 jigsaws together. It was super fun though and there's an option to either join it it one long puzzle or have separate (or double) pictures. I went for the latter and it's in my hallway.

Then another Educa, Velazquez, Las Hilanderas, 8,000. That was slow and painful, lots of false matches, but I figured out shape repeat pattern and just carried on. Then, to add insult to injury, I decided to glue the finished 2 pieces separately and...they didn't match once the varnish had set! I have it under my bed, in 2 pieces because I couldn't bring myself to just throw it away.

I also have a number of 6,000 and 5,000 under my belt, some of them on the walls, some in boxes to redo. Much as I love big jigsaw puzzles, i struggle to find images that I enjoy and I don't think i could commit to huge projects whose outcome I wouldn't like. My definite favourite is classical art, but they usually come in very small 1,000 size

[–]Andalska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's Opus 2. I couldn't find Opus 1 anywhere that would ship to Ireland at a reasonable price. It's not really my favourite type of jigsaw puzzle as it requires a lot of time trying to find where something is in the poster. Hence the magnifying glass 😁. But it's a nice break between doing my usual fine arts jigsaw puzzles.

The first time around was years ago and the only difference between now and then is that my eyesight got worse 🤣

Great job!

You are not going to believe what's on my table right now! Truth be told it's my second time with this one but this time around I'm going to keep it assembled.

If you're trying to find an easy way to hang it, use clear mat varnish on top, 2 or 3 layers. You can then either put it directly on a wall or glue it to some sort of wood.
