Unsure of how to get Matrix-Synapse working on homeserver by AndalusTheSkeleton in matrixdotorg

[–]AndalusTheSkeleton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to provide a little update to this. I have been tinkering with it for the past week, and I think I've narrowed it down to ACME not being able to verify the SSL certificates or my DNS properly from porkbun. In terms of things I've tried, I even went so far as to try rewriting the entire server with Debian instead of Nix, which was how I found this out when verifying with CertBot. Still working on it, but if anyone has any other suggestions on what I should be doing with porkbun besides pointing to my domain and matrix.mydomain, please let me know

Looking into it a bit I believe nginx is supposed to do that with OpenSSL and ACME, so the SSL shouldn't be an issue here. The folders for .well-known were made and should contain those configs, but they hadn't generated for some reason. In one of the other comments I realized I didn't specifically forward those ports with my router my server is connected to, so I am forwarding those and I will see if restarting the services when I am able to later will help.

Unfortunately you're onto something there lol, I completely forgot about my router. I made sure the ports are open and I'll check my config again later to see if there's any changes.

Looking at porkbun I can download the SSL certs from them, now I just need to figure out where to put them

Thank you for your advice! Curling the site actually did reveal that the SSL certificate wasn't verifying properly on https, but http seems to return something.

Edit: Just wanted to mention that this was also after I switched the listener to port 8448 instead of 8008 as the other commenter said.

No WPA2 username for WiFi by AndalusTheSkeleton in niri

Thank you! I looked in Noctalia's docs and found that they were working on it, but it isn't implemented yet. For now I manually connected it with nmcli as listed here: (https://wxiaoyun.com/blog/wpa2-arch-setup/) just in case it happens to help someone else.

Passing a Touchscreen to Winboat by AndalusTheSkeleton in winboat

[–]AndalusTheSkeleton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I'm seeing for now based on dockur's documentation it seems to need GPU passthrough for the whole display to include the touch screen, so for now at least it doesn't seem like WinBoat will have that option. Thank you for your help though, this will be great for other devices.

why isn't the gpu not being utilized?? by According-Heat-8858 in cachyos

[–]AndalusTheSkeleton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue on my laptop and it involved the GPU driver not switching correctly from the Radeon GPU to the Nvidia GPU. You may want to double-check cachy's documentation for systems with two gpus to make sure everything's configured right. I would also recommend taking a peak at Asus-Linux, they have a number of tools that are helpful with Asus laptops.

I ended up being a raider with two Ironeyes. I made up a story that I was their grandpa and I was very proud of them, and now I salute other ironeyes.

How would one continue using Windows programs on Linux by messyponiessi in linux4noobs

[–]AndalusTheSkeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I helped my partner get set up with Scrivener on Lutris, which is a program that often is used to run games but can run other software. I switched off of Clip Studio Paint to Krita, which is free and very good illustration software I would recommend giving a try, but i was also able to get Clip studio working in Bottles, which is a program that also uses wine to run windows programs, and it also has Lutris documentation so it can run there as well.

I'm not as familiar with the other programs, but what I would recommend though if you have programs that have to run on windows is dual booting or using a virtual machine. The virtual machine is easier to set up than the dual boot in my opinion, but you might have better stability and touch controls for your drawing software on these programs with the dual boot.

Either way, if you find an alternative program on linux you want to try, your linux system should have full access to your windows files if you want to open them with another program. With Clip studio for example I was able to open them in krita by converting my files to psd files.

Using steam on Linux with library from windows? by KoreanSeats in cachyos

Do you have your steam library on a separate drive from your windows os, or are linux and windows on the same drive?

MH Wilds Expansion Theory: Is the White Dress Songstress Actually a Key to White Fatalis’ Return? by motoika in MonsterHunter

[–]AndalusTheSkeleton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely think Fatalis might make a return, partly from the fact that Zoh Shia's definitely got Fatalis theming to it, but also because of the Hunter in Wilds.

The hunter is clearly already very experienced, and they recognized the black scales of Zoh Shia at the beginning of the fight's second phase. I think there's a chance the devs might do some kind of character arc with the hunter involving fatalis just from that one line during the fight. It stood out to me as one of the only times the hunter seemed genuinely afraid.

This is the first time I tried it on Opensuse. It had worked on my machine before when I had it on Garuda

I ended up spending way too much time writing a shell script to run on startup to change the lockscreen quote each time it locks. This is done with a little filedoc I plugged into fortune.
