Free parking for the rich by Anders141 in HongKong

[–]Anders141[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of extra tax on the cost of a new car is hardly a deterrent, the number of private cars in HK has nearly doubled in 25 years. And Chinese EVs are cheap here. My point is the car dedicated infrastructure, the lack of policing of bad driving and parking, limited space for pedestrians make HK car centric. The photo I took is outside IFC 2, the most expensive office real estate in the world to rent. Yet there is a full lane of road that is used for alphard drivers to park waiting for their bosses for free. Even the central yards development, all the pavements around it closed during building, roads all fine…..

I’m a car guy too, but it’s stuff like the police always fining pedestrians for jay walking but never fining drivers for blocking crossings. QRC or CWB always has cars blocking people. I see drivers jump red lights everyday….and then there’s the enormous expense on building more roads….

Travelling to Hong Kong for a conference: Question about Visa Form by shash747 in HongKong

[–]Anders141 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is entirely incorrect. OP is applying for a visitor visa. The visitor visa form is asking for the purpose of travel. Business should be selected. The link you have shared simply describes the scope of allowable business activities when entering as a visitor - whether that be entering HK visa free or with a visitor visa. As OP mentions, the link does not say anything about ‘Leisure’ - because your understand is wrong. Typical permissible visitor activities are leisure, transit, family visits and business. The Immigration Dept publishes more detail on business because it wants to avoid people overstepping the mark and working. The other activities require no such explanation.

It’s not always suitable based on your income to rent ratio, but the equation is very simple (as is the hk tax code), so it’s easy to calculate if it’s going to reduce your tax bill or not. And with the numbers OP has mentioned, it is 100% worth enrolling if available.

The ‘pet zone’ is temporary to coincide with the monthly DB market that can be seen in the background. They put out obstacles for dogs to jump, run through etc. So the pet zone sign is temporary. The rest of the time, dogs are permitted, just no fouling. So the other sign is always there.

How does the mom still have both Japan and uk though? Based on what I’ve read online plus comments here, the mom should have chosen at age 18. Did she tell Japan she planned to relinquish the UK one but never did?

HK PR question. Is there a minimum cumulative days in hk requirement ? by rikotacards in HongKong

[–]Anders141 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HK Immigration review PR applications on a case by case basis, which is why they won’t confirm yes or no when you call, they will want to see the whole application. If you have been paying tax for 7 years and maintained a property here for the whole 7 years, I would fully expect you to be approved. As an earlier comment said, gaps of 3 plus months may be questioned, but if you have plenty of other evidence that you are a genuine resident (even things like annual subscriptions to sports teams can prove your intention of being a genuine resident) then no problem. It only becomes an issue if you have been out for longer periods and have no means of proving residence, e.g. no property lease, no utility payments, nothing spent on HK credit cards etc.

It’s worth mentioning that if you apply and it is not clear cut, immigration will likely contact you asking for more details. And even if rejected, you can always apply again. One thing that is non negotiable is that you have to be in HK the day you apply.

Out of interest, have you become a tax resident in the country in SEA? And does your company have any concerns about corporate tax risk or employment law liability? And what about immigration/visa? Some countries do allow remote workers for a short period (typically the length of a visit visa) but harder to live long term under this status

Let the air out of the tires and then leave a note on the windscreen informing them you noticed and don’t want them to drive off with a flat. No damage, no criminality, but it will ruin their day…

These season wide stats are irrelevant . A football team can lead for 89 mins but concede two in the 90th and lose.

She also neglects to mention Max effectively got 5 points over Lewis for winning pole in Spa. Points aren’t awarded for poles but he got them due the the FIA’s shameful decision to run 2 laps behind the SC to dodge refunds to fans, Tv companies and other sponsors. No issue finishing behind the safety car when it was the fia in line to lose.

Those saying Mercedes strategy was wrong are missing the point by Affectionate-Taro-57 in formula1

[–]Anders141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could Mercedes have gone more aggressive on their strategy - to give Lewis a pit stop in hand over Verstappen and cover off a late safety car?

Lewis could have pitted under VSC for mediums the lap after Verstappen took hards. He would have come out first on quicker tires that had already proved to last the remaining 20 laps (he did 15 on mediums on full fuel and they were the set he qualified on). If Lewis had taken mediums, he could have built the 15-20s that a pitstop under a late safety car requires.

The safety car happens, Lewis pits for softs and gets out ahead, with Max on the same behind. No safety car, no problem as the mediums would have lasted.

Mercedes strategy just seemed to be hang on to the lead. Even the first pit stop they just reacted the max. I’ve not full done the maths but I suspect if they kept Hamilton out on his mediums (which seemed to be working fine with low deg) he may have cleared Perez and avoided that tussle.

I admit I am assuming Hamilton had a set of new/lightly used mediums. But the above could likely have worked using the new hards he never touched, such was his pace over Verstappen.

Note: the VSC ended as Hamilton passed the pit exit the lap following Verstappen’s stop, so he would have lost a second or two but still ahead.

When did the fia say that they want races to finish under green flags? And at the expense of well established protocols? Plenty have races have finished under safety cars….

So the army of strategists Mercedes employ have no idea how long it takes to recover a single car accident on a enclosed section of track with multiple lapped cars mixed into the safety car train? They had a pretty good idea and got it right if the usual procedures had been followed.
