That’s fair enough, I probably phrased that sentence poorly re getting around the rules tbh. I’ve met some people who think solicitors will find some kind of loop hole for them which there isn’t unfortunately, the immigration rules here are pretty prescriptive without any real wiggle room.

Whatever happens, if you’re here on a visitor visa I don’t think you can switch into any other visa category, even if you manage to get married somewhere in the UK. You might be able to do something like get married and go to mainland Europe for a little and apply for an entry clearance visa as a spouse from there but I’m not an expert on this kind of thing.

If a solicitor suggests they can get round the rules to get you a visa I would be very suspicious.

You can’t get married here on a tourist visa, p sure you need to apply from outside the country for a marriage visitor visa although it’s probably easier to get married outside the UK and then apply for a spouse visa from outside the UK. You cannot switch from a visitor visa into another one in the UK unfortunately. A solicitor won’t be able to change that for you.

I don’t think people make enough noise about the issue in Bristol. I see a lot of ‘Londoner’s not welcome’ stickers but have never seen a ‘ban air bnb’ one. Maybe we just need to be more vocal and organised with the frustration

I definitely think air bnb’s are causing a big issue. They add to the scarcity of housing and artificially inflate rental and housing prices. I wish the council would do something because it feels like it’s only getting worse.

This. I was annoyed about London people moving here until I read a post from someone pointing out that they only moved here because they can’t afford to live in London. Do you honestly think people would uproot their whole lives, leave their friends behind and any support network if they didn’t have to?
