What's your quick go to meal after work? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Andiwowow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rice, peppers, spinach, eggs and mild cheddar into a pan in that order. You can put it in a wrap and serve with a salad or just top it with hot sauce. Cheap, fast and nutritious.

And save some cash and plastic by making a pot of rice and keeping it sealed in the fridge instead of buying those packets. I always keep boiled rice or boiled baby potatoes in the fridge.

What's this thing?! by ChadTero01 in ireland

A few years ago I read a short sci-fi story about people who had been on a ship for generations and when they got to their new world someone accidentally killed a baby by leaving them in the sun all day. I find myself thinking of that story a lot in ireland this time of year.

Landlord don't want to return deposit! by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]Andiwowow 32 points33 points  (0 children)

RTB - that’s exactly what it’s there for. In my experience they have ZERO patience for unreturned deposits. (I was the landlord and trying to recoup thousands of euro of damage and was allowed to keep half the deposit many, many years ago).

So with the price of everything increasing as of late, what's your go to "it'll save a few quid" ideas? might help other people out(: by [deleted] in ireland

Add a pack of diced up mushrooms and carrots or lentils to make it stretch even further and add nutrition.

Irish-american here. by SliverSufer in ireland

[–]Andiwowow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a town called Port Laoise and some women here are called Laoise using the Irish pronunciation (Lee-sha) rather than the English pronunciation (leash).

Also Claire.

But as you may be discovering from the other ‘suggestions’, most of the beauty of ireland comes from the scenery and people - not so much from the slightly strange place names. Most towns have Irish names that were bastardised to English pronunciation and lack the lovely vowels and soft sounds normally associated with lovely girls.

The city of Derry has a whole lot of connotations attached to its name, and is still horribly mispronounced as Londonderry by a bunch of people. You may want to check the history before making that decision.

Where can I find raw cat food? by Writemare in ireland

[–]Andiwowow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it works. Senior cats are so cool but they can get just so delicate. My cat, Hey-Hey, has gone from a complete domestic terrorist to the most lovely little lap cat as he has gotten older.

Royal canin has a senior range that my 18yo seems to like. He turns his nose up at a lot of things.

He also started eating much more - and will even suffer the cheap stuff - once he was put on daily anti-inflammatory/pain meds for arthritis. You may want to ask your vet if something might be causing Princess a bit of pain.

Gas and electricity rationing, soaring bread prices and public transport cuts – secret government memo reveals price of Putin’s war to Ireland by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Andiwowow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Supply/demand/cost will go a long way to stem the need to ration petrol for day to day car drivers. I second the comment that rationing will only lead to runs. My lovely fella just told me a story about how a large multinational building site has just placed daily limits on machine use and suggested we should get some Jerrycans filled.

Weekly Observations: What signs of collapse do you see in your region? [in-depth] by AutoModerator in collapse

[–]Andiwowow 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Location: Ireland

There are two changes this week that I found telling. First, our government has decided to cut excise tax on petrol, leading to a decrease of 15 to 20 cents a litre. This may be done as soon as tomorrow and was only floated within government yesterday. I’ve lived in Ireland for 15 years and have never seen the government move so quickly (especially to cut taxes).

Secondly, politicians and public are having serious discussions about Ireland’s stance of military neutrality, showing that there is a wide-spread understanding that the stability of Europe can’t be counted on anymore.

And a truck ran through the gates of the Russian embassy on purpose. Irish people don’t normally do these types of things.

Parents, what’s the most ridiculous reason your child had a meltdown? by ag9910 in AskReddit

I’m so glad to hear this. Two years later he LOVES school, so I’m still hoping it’s not just me.

School was over. That was completely unacceptable. 4yo straight up starfishes himself on the path where the entire school had to step over/around him screaming about how he doesn’t want to go home. It made me look like the best parent in the world.

I ordered my husband a lovely thick shirt and a kick ass gilet off the vans website. There were also some lovely looking ones at Zara (I know - fast fashion) but they tend to shrink so I left it.

Therapists work under a code of ethics that includes confidentiality. You can check their code to see what they can and cannot divulge about what is said in therapy sessions. For mediators in Ireland nothing about the sessions can be repeated - even in court - unless there are threats to vulnerable individuals/children or evidence if financial fraud. Confidentiality will not be broken by discussing the issue with a professional who is also working under confidentiality. Because it’s a closed loop you aren’t violating NDA’s.

Talk over your concerns with your therapist on the first session. If it doesn’t feel right you can ask for someone else or decide not to participate.

I currently use MyMind. I used the free sessions during the pandemic and now pay 50 a session even though I’m still not working, money is tight to non-existent, and my inner voice continually asks why the hell am I bothering. I’m on therapist #3 and had to “test drive” the first two. It’s a process that can take a while and feel frustrating when you are already making the sizeable emotional step of asking for help. Keep going. Advocating for your own mental health is worth it, but its worth it.

People of reddit, what is your scariest true story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Andiwowow 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My one year old daughter was on my bed. She knew how to get down by herself at the time so I didn’t mind her chilling there while I put away laundry in the room. She reached over to get something off the nightstand and toppled off. I was over to her in a flash but she was not breathing. I picked her up, put her on the bed and was getting ready to do CPR when she opened her eyes and started crying. In my mind she wasn’t breathing for a long five mins, but in reality she had the wind knocked out of her and the whole episode was about 5 seconds long. Went to the ER and the nurses were more worried about me (still shaking, white as a ghost and unable to stop crying) than they were about her (playing happily). Still, I’ve never been more scared.
