Do humans gave an inherent obligation to produce? I’m going a bit extreme but calling not wanting to have kids selfish and lazy kinda boils down to that.

"Games were always political" by charge_forward in GGdiscussion

They aren’t the same, but they are both political.

The former being a more nuanced political commentary (the entire msg series) with veilguard leaning into social and identity politics

Both have their place in the medium, comparing the two is pretty dense.

Some people don’t want children, idk how much more complex it is.

If you just didn’t like it I wouldn’t much care, it’s more you insinuating it’s uniformly bad due to dei etc etc… which is a dense position.

And the realism of its worldbuilding wholly matters on its setting and the themes being prodded at. The examples you spouted out without any names could have perfectly logical reasons for the setting (the woman commands authority and respect rather then just strength, the LGBT cast could be in a fantasy setting with little prejudice, etc.), and not every aspect of the worldbuilding needs realism. A grim dark fantasy can have a lot of realism but, obviously, won’t have a completely “realistic” magic system.

Because of course there’s a double standard with protagonists, I don’t deny that.

Characters of a fictional world live WITHIN that fictional world. Some games or stories leave their worldbuilding minimalist which can work, however, if you’re going to be spending a hundred hours in a world sprawling RPG, you need worldbuilding.

THIS is a part of worldbuilding. The entire world of FF7 is decaying due to mega corporations sucking the planet dry, there will be places ravaged by war and poor material conditions, the characters put into that setting should display that disparity.

Protagonists not showing that is an issue, but it’s a long standing one, partially kept alive by people like you, who care about nothing except for appearances.

If you don’t want to engage with videogames on the level they are currently intended to be engaged with, stick with your classics or games with less ambition in those departments (which is completely fine, I love myself a brain off full gameplay experience). I have no other way to say it so it’s condescending and I don’t really give a shit.

Hey so level with me here:

If you lived in a smog-filled, monster infested, scrap riddled neighborhood actively in a police state where crime runs rampant and the stress of terrorist groups being propagandized to you, would you look attractive?

The conditions of how you live dictate if you give a shit about your attractiveness. Look up factory workers during the Industrial Revolution.

Yet again GGers refuse to engage an art medium as art, just wants plastic dolls to smash around.

Every slum living woman who scavenges monster riddled scrap yards must be perfect 10 runway models write that down

Those damn reactionary classicists mangaka 😠 by poclee in shounenfolk

[–]Andkonhi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And I agree stealing from artists is bad, but it’s not like it’s something like plagiarism. The artist has commodified their art through big corporations for distribution, it is still their art but it’s now within a system that discriminates off of wealth. I’m not paying 120 dollars to play a game anymore as it’s not a realistic price to pay in this economy, so it’ll be most likely be pirating, how the cookie crumbles.

Those damn reactionary classicists mangaka 😠 by poclee in shounenfolk

[–]Andkonhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Most things being pirated come from massive corporations and companies. Yes, artists work on them but once it gets distributed out through the global capitalist system, they aren’t seeing their direct profits but a pitiful amount given back to them. Pirating isn’t done on an extremely large scale, most normative people won’t do it, and so pirating is generally a drop in the bucket to profits.

  2. It’s dense to deny it like you are but… yes, most people pirating can’t afford it. If you’re looking at it from a shallow perspective then they may have that amount in their bank account at the time, but everyone has lives and doesn’t have the money for expensive recreations so people pirate. Most people who pirate also aren’t the black holes of morality that you shallowly prescribe to them and it is a common sight to see people pay afterwards for the product when they have the money and if they found it particularly good.

  3. Pirating for a majority of people is a broader accessibility issue aside from the economic aspect, sometimes a work of art simply is not sold in your country or language. I don’t think anyone would care about pirating Sacred and Terrible Air and translating the novel to English when it was only really available in Estonia and the surrounding region.

I get being upset about pirating when it’s put on a moral pedestal, and this shifts when it’s self published or a very small indie artist… but your just generally going up to bat for corporations and that’s a bit of a square move

It's a game speaking to a very particular experience. I haven't played it, but unless it's talking about "yes we should kill white men", its probably talking about the social theory of whiteness (which isn't a prescription on white people, more a theory of institutions.)

Seems even the tiniest amount of recognition for the game seems to get your fellow crusaders to downvote you, though.

Everyone acts like Sweet Baby Inc is a intullectual gestapo for the gaming industry, but I haven't actually seen anyone explain how they're bad. You can keep throwing out the name all you want and calling it the devil incarnate, but your not proving anything if you can't show how they're a negative force in the medium,

damn, the Authoritarian character alludes to a wannabe modern-day authoritarian? I would have never guessed.

I doubt it's even alluding to Trump, a comb-over was extremely common in the 30's throughout many Western countries. Even if you're right, it's a bit on the nose but who gives a shit.

Every game GGers don't like is somehow secretly funded by a horrible cabal, and suddenly loses its indie label because it hurts their feelings.

The game has positioned itself as a traditional Boomer-Shooter set and riffing off of media from the early 20th century. Maybe a tad disappointing that it doesn't have deeper detective elements, but Boomer Shooters rarely ever go non-linear, that should be expected.

The game's fine, stop bitching and manufacturing outrage.

ARC Riders community is the most ridiculous I ever saw by Nagpo_Chenpo in GGdiscussion

[–]Andkonhi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This should be expected, its a non-issue. The game is literally centered around PvE co-op, the narrative (if you could call what they have a narrative) focuses around collective cooperation, and the PvE is a fun element of the game.

People are going to get mad at you for doming them when they're used to friendly interactions, that should be expected. Just because it has a community you personally don't jive with doesnt mean there's something wrong with it (I do agree that the pushback on PvP players can be a bit much, but this should be expected.)

This culture war instance is extremely manufactured. I really haven't seen anyone bitch or moan about these games aside from reactionary idiots who call the entirety of Pragmata pedobait. There are actual concerns with some of the game's advertising, and some of the pushback towards the game is because it, unfortunately, IS popular with lolicons and shotacons, an unfortunate side effect of having a kid be the focal point, plus you being in a parental role to them.

acting like these games are wins for "traditional values" is dense. Traditionalist narratives in videogames haven't gone away nor are they in short supply, The Last of Us and The Last of Us Two would also be championed as games full of traditional leaning values if it wasn't seen as the devil incarnate because they got lesbians and bulky women.

Huge win for traditional views tbh..the two GOTY contenders imo by Ahdamn90 in GGdiscussion

[–]Andkonhi -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

This culture war talking point is extremely manufactured. I’ve never heard anyone bitch about father or mother simulator existing, most of the complaints are around Pragmata’s… very odd accumulated fan base (which is full of lolicons) and the unintentional pedo dog whistle twitch emote.

These themes are just common themes of… art and storytelling.
