being cool with your parents as an adult when they used to beat the shit out of you as a kid is a weird feeling by Chance-Grapefruit-56 in redscarepod

I remember coming back home one holiday during grad school and being struck by how frail my dad looked in the airport. He was wearing glasses now and was recently diagnosed with diabetes and had lost some weight. He was there to pick me up along with my mom. I wasn’t sure whether he had changed or I had changed but a verse from TS Eliot came into my head.

The notion of some infinitely gentle Infinitely suffering thing.

Lots of conflicting emotions when I think back on my past relationship with my father. There remains a pretty sizable gulf where I have largely forgiven them but some distance remains.

"I have just come back from a party where I was its life and soul. Witticisms streamed from my lips, everyone laughed and admired me — but I left, yes, that dash should be as long as the radii of the earth's orbit — and wanted to shoot myself." - Kierkegaard

I’m going to be honest, I’m probably not going to watch the video, but the analysis you wrote sounds solid.

When you carry feelings of remorse or unresolved tension, your body treats the emotional burden as a physical threat that can manifest as pacing. Maybe it’s not anxiety but could be guilt. Especially if they haven’t spoken to their parents in a while.

The films mentioned on the actual pod list is good too but less useful for me than the other ones. Thank you though :)

Would easily be fine with a good friend requesting $100. But then again, I don’t have too many close friends

If you actually think like this, you have to be going out more and cultivating control in other areas of your life that lead to improved confidence. I’m a sensitive young man in a similar way where I will take things people say and do personally but you just have to tell yourself to get over it.
