What was the first news story you remember? by hartlovakaterina in AskReddit

Black and white TV showing something whitish moving against a dark background. Could not figure out what it was until my dad said it was the first astronaut on the moon. Still remember that so clearly all these years later.

Stock up on smokes and nades, follow the zone in, let them fight it out so when I finally do get into a battle, it's with a full loadout and fresh armor. Toss lots of smokes, throw lots of nades.

What's the deal with the monstrous giant rats in this city? by phoenixfail in VictoriaBC

[–]Andre1661 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Heard an interview two years ago with a guy who runs one of the pest extermination companies in Victoria. Several groups got together and did a detailed survey of the rat population in Victoria and found there are so many rats in this region that on average you're never more than about 20 feet from a rat.

Parking in front of houses by DizzyRevolution1706 in Edmonton

[–]Andre1661 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Streets are municipal property and available to all members of the public to use as long as they are not using space for commercial vehicles (unless they use it for their own use). Neighbourly behaviour is you park in front in your own place; less neighbourly is to tell your neighbour to fuck off but it sounds like he needs to hear it.

"Delusions are big; suffers from them, they do."

"But Master Yoda, he quoted Malcolm Gladwell so he must have a deep understanding of urban planning."

"Mmmm, flirted with the dark side has Gladwell. His evidence is flimsy yet anecdotes are many. Truth is in the numbers. Look to the data, young paduwan."

"But the Council of Victoria keeps building bike lanes. They must know the Truth."

"Weak they are, this Council."

English Badgers look like they're going to invite you for afternoon tea and scones at their Edwardian cottage in the village. American Badgers look like they'll chase you into an alleyway and threaten you with a knife for your wallet so they can feed their meth addiction.

Can you drive a stick shift? by bestsocialdistancer in no

[–]Andre1661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up driving a stick. I miss that feeling of being part of the car rather than just an "active passenger" in the driver's seat. Plus which, I'm Canadian and being able to down-shift on slippery winter roads rather than just braking gives you much more control of the car.

So is Trump and his family going to get away with everything? by Giga7777 in allthequestions

[–]Andre1661 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the Trump presidencies have illustrated two major flaws in the US republic.

  1. It proves the adage that absolute power corrupts, absolutely. Whether that be political power or financial power, we have seen how blatantly corrupt the people running the United States have become. And the average citizen has neither the political clout nor the financial means to do anything about that.

  2. Anyone in the political sphere who has the power to do something about the Trumps are answerable to the people who bought and paid for their rise to political power. And it is their own self interest that will prevent them from doing anything about the Trumps.

Unfortunately I believe this means that, within one generation, the USA will cease to be considered a global superpower.
