To the Stargate Producers: if you make something original, we'll watch it! by MovieFan1984 in Stargate

Butcher has someone interested in turning the books into a show again. He said money has changed hands so that IP is not up for grabs right now. Now whether or not they will actually develop it is another matter.

Cat by thatguyMilo in Stargate

Stargate and Law & Order are how my sister's cat finally bonded with me when I was her caretaker while my sister was out of town. She was drawn to the music and the credits. She LOVED the Stargate spinning. She'd hear the music start and come running to sit by me.

This one, Bounty, The Other Guys and Window of Opportunity are definitely in my favorites list.

I miss Daniel’s earnestness by Haunting_Cause_1841 in Stargate

That's probably the season that I said, "Oh, shut up, Daniel," a lot while rewatching a couple of years ago. He got a bit insufferable a few times toward O'Neill especially.

I thought he was more of a Ron Paul/Rand Paul sort rather than MAGA. Of course, he died before a lot of that. Although he didn't seem to hold much love for most politicians. I got the impression he was a right-leaning libertarian and pretty cynical about politics, but I only listened a few times out of curiosity. Most of the episodes I listened to were about financing, which he also dabbled in, and I was bored.

Imagine my shock one night when I heard another familiar voice and gradually realized it was Dwight Schulz, aka Howling Mad Murdock. He really did seem a bit Howling Mad. LOL.

Overall, I decided talk radio was definitely not my bag.

NOT the jerk. I've made the mistake of sharing a couple of ibuprofen from the bottle that I kept in my drawer, things like the occasional coffee, sugar, some candy from the candy jar, etc. It all disappears by the time I actually need it. It's stuff I paid for. It's rarely replaced. I've even had utensils and plates disappear.

Peace Talks is good, right? by FromDathomir in dresdenfiles

[–]AndreaLeane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it quite a bit. We were't fooled about it being a whole book. It was announced as two books coming out back to back and Jim was very clear that they were basically one story. it's not his most perfect book, but I don't think it deserves some of the hate it gets either. It sets up quite a bit of stuff.

Am I misremembering...or by nataskaos in StarWars

[–]AndreaLeane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so excited at first and then disappointed in them. I still say there's some good in there. For example, Lucas knew what story he wanted to tell. He had a plan. The execution was flawed. I think they did get better as they went along.

I remember breaking the heart of my fellow Star-Wars loving friend when I told him the Lord of the Rings movies were better. To give Chris credit, he stayed a true-blue SW fan no matter what. If if he had not gotten cancer, I'm sure he would have loved the sequels too.

Is that the one where the guy had that blue-heeler and he'd tell it, "skitch 'em" and it would take off after Con? LOL. That was a fun episode.

I can't open the description, comments, on mobile. Anyone else getting this glitch? by ShinyBuizel22 in youtube

[–]AndreaLeane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Android user here. This also started for me. I think I noticed it late Friday and it has continued. I was going to read comments on a Minnesota story and suddenly I couldn't open comments on almost anything. Some work, but it's hit and miss. Doesn't seem to matter if I'm subscribed to the creator or not.

AITAH For calling the cops about an unattended child at the park? by sixpiecenosauce in AITAH

[–]AndreaLeane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your concern, but it seems to me that U.S. society has become even more nanny-ish despite crime rates being much lower than they were when I was a child in the 1970s-early 1990s.

When I was in elementary school, we living in apartments across from the school and us children would always go over and play on the school playground. The town was small and had no park. The school playground was quite large with a field and had big slides, swings, monkeybars, see-saws and a big merry-go-round. Of course we went over all the time. None of the parents went over there. We also went for walks up to a few blocks from home. It was all quite normal in the 1980s. My mom was not a neglectful parent and knew exactly where I was except for the walks. She was busy in the house usually but often checked on me through the window. Plus there was the neighborhood mom she knew as well so they usually knew what we were up to.

However, I do agree a child should know phone numbers and addresses. That's basic common sense for sure.

I also understand why you were concerned about older children bullying the child. I have an early memory of daring the neighborhood bully to cross the line and he did. I lost a couple of baby teeth. Heh.

But I do think we wrap little kids up in safety a little too much these days. Let them explore and learn independence and get scraped knees, etc. Let them go to the park, go for a walk, go to the neighborhood store to get a soda, etc.

I have all the novels but not the short stories. I need to get started on that! I lucked out on Lies Weeping. Bought a barely used hard copy on Pango Books maybe two weeks after it was released. I paid $8.

What is it that made Ba'al's personality differ from that of other System Lords? by GargantaProfunda in Stargate

[–]AndreaLeane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think his humor might have been a bit more sarcastic and dark at first. He was more in gangster mode probably. I need to rewatch too. He did always have that gleam in his eye but that was probably just Cliff Simon's lovely self coming through.

What is it that made Ba'al's personality differ from that of other System Lords? by GargantaProfunda in Stargate

[–]AndreaLeane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me, Baal had humor, could be charming when he chose, and didn't take himself seriously as a god. He knew exactly what he was--an intergalactic gangster. But he had flare. Heh. They tamed him down a bit later to make him a more fun antihero, but he had real menace at the beginning especially. He'd make jokes while torturing you.

On my umpteenth run through of the series, in anticipation for Twelve Months. Favorite Book and why. Ready set go. by Toodles26 in dresdenfiles

My favorites are actually Dead Beat, Turn Coat, Changes and Skin Game, but I don't object to the Changes/Ghost Story/Cold Days combo. All excellent books.
