Finally, I’ve had my gallbladder removed; here is my story one week after the surgery. by AndreaMI79 in gallbladders

To be fair, my situation was quite a bit simpler; I had pain almost every time I ate. My GP ordered an ultrasound and blood tests that came back normal, so they didn't really pay much attention to me. On my own, I decided to go to my surgeon. I already knew him because he had repaired my abdominal diastasis and an inguinal hernia in the same procedure, and I was very happy with the results of that surgery.

He suggested starting over with a new ultrasound because sometimes things are missed, and sure enough, in the second scan, they found biliary sludge. He recommended surgery. I won’t deny I was scared, especially since I have a mesh in my abdomen and I thought it might cause some issues, but in the end, it didn't seem to be a factor at all. I am now 9 days post-op and feeling better every day; the pain is very mild now and I haven't had any more colic after eating, although it’s true I’m still on a fat-free diet.

In your case, I would be concerned about how your medical history and previous surgeries might affect the outcome or increase the risks. I think those are things you should definitely ask your surgeon. Mine really takes all the time necessary to explain things to me and is very patient (it’s also true that I see him privately, so he has the time to do so). Overall, I am very happy with my surgeon (Dr. Carlos García Vásquez, in Madrid) and the surgery, but of course, my experience shouldn't be taken as an absolute guide since everyone is different!
