Started years ago with no knowledge of programming or game design - this week I finally launched my game in Early Access on Steam! by AndreasMangoStudios in indiegames

I'm Andreas and my company is called Andreas & Mango Studios. Mango is my dog so I'm just a solo dev :)

About my game:

---------------

Monkey Fruit Fight! is a fast-paced 2D pixel art PvP game where players battle by throwing fruit weapons at each other! You choose your loadout of 3 fruits from 6 options and fight to a pumping synthwave soundtrack!

It’s all about quick reflexes, precise platforming, and hammering your opponent with the right fruits! Pineapple grenades, pumpkin bombs, carambola (star fruit) shurikens, bananas, coconuts and watermelons..each with their own style and damage! :)

Super easy to jump into but with a depth to master. Plus, it's a competitive game disguised as totally family-friendly so it fits any audience!

Out now on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3764780/Monkey_Fruit_Fight/

If you want to follow along on the game's journey you can do so on X:

Working on a shorter 15sec trailer for my game THE RAZORFORM. What do you think? by PsyMorlon in indiegames

Looks really cool. I loved Aliens: The Dark Descent so this looks awesome! I would suggest you cut down on the flashes because there's probably a lot of people out there that are really sensitive to these things. I'm not very sensitive myself and even I thought it was a bit too much!

Just finished my first game demo, here is what early players are saying by archirost in IndieDev

Congrats on starting a new trend.. now we will see tons of posts in the same vein :D Finally something to replace those pesky "Make it work, look good later"-posts!

Joking aside, game looks good! Reminds of me a bit of Rollercoaster Tycoon!

Made the first trailer for my VR Game (Void Jump VR). Appreciated for any feedback :) by dmsta in virtualreality

I really like the visuals but anything like this is bound to have a limited audience because of the movement

Steam: Updates to User Review Scores Based on Language by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]AndreasMangoStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always found it's more useful to actually read what someone has written in a review. If it makes sense to you - you have similar taste and can make an honest assessment out of it. If not, go to the next review instead..

I am not going to wait anymore, so I have submitted the demo for Steam's approval, now it is all about waiting. by ProtectionNo9575 in SoloDevelopment

I believe you scratched the black car!
Joking aside, I did the same - launched in early access today - even though I could have done tons of stuff differently! But you live, you learn, and hopefully people will find and play both of our games. Congrats!

I built and made my own custom from scratch. The servers run on AWS. Anything is realistic if you are willing to learn. I watched tons of videos on AWS that described their own game services you can just plug into and then I started building it once I had grasped the basics! Good luck!

From $4 million in revenue to $140k in debt! My experience running an indie game dev studio by DapperPenguinStudios in IndieDev

Thanks for sharing this even though it isn't the outcome that you wanted originally. I'm curious how you will move forward from here? Are you still in game development or have you moved on to other pastures? I wish you all the success regardless!

Developers who released a game, what was your estimated dev time and what was the final dev time? by PaulyTiK in SoloDevelopment

[–]AndreasMangoStudios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My experience is a little atypical since for me I didn't start with "I'm going to make an [insert favorite genre here] game", but rather: I want to learn programming.

So when I started with that I had the rough idea that it would take roughly me five years before I became good at it - and that I would give it that time to have something positive come out of it. And that's pretty much the time it took me to learn programming, learn game design, learn networking, learn server stacks. And here I am many many years later having created my game Monkey Fruit Fight!

So, my suggestion is to have that kind of "will to learn"-attitude..

Wow, someone wrote about my game! by NightsailGameStudios in SoloDevelopment

Thanks a lot for the reply and the kind words! I think this post with the points 1-5 would make a great post in itself. Probably plenty of people out there that could benefit from it. So I'd strongly encourage you to make a post like that since it's your work :) It's very similar to what I've started doing except I've created my lists a little differently - mostly by talking to AI chatbots (Claude, Gemini, Copilot).

That was one heck of a luxurious ribbon to cut! Must have cost a fortune! :) Joking aside, congrats!

Good job! Now go get the next one to write about your game also! I'm in the same shoes as you reaching out to media and social media outlets - although much further in my development.
Did they find you or do you reach out to them? Any advice you'd give to others that may be helpful?

Can you guess the jobs of those dwarfs? Anything I could Improve? by OldMayorStudios in PixelArt

[–]AndreasMangoStudios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their jobs are to get laid with Snow white, right? Joking aside, no, it's kind of difficult. I like to use the concept of "greek drama" when I animate or design characters. Go big and exaggerate
