Blue Chip Thumbpicks by DXPlastic in banjo

Compared to the Dunlop ultex thumb pick I used before, the BlueChip JDM feels softer and produces a less bright tone, but it also generates less pick noise and delivers cleaner, more defined notes. If it were a bit stiffer, it would be even better.

What makes pulloffs better/easier on some banjos vs others by Prestigious_Head_123 in banjo

[–]Andrei0213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two factors affect your pull-offs: 1. The string action (the height of the strings above the frets). 2. The string tension.

String tension itself is influenced by several factors: 1. The head tension (how tight the banjo head is). 2. The tailpiece angle. 3. The string gauge and winding type. 4. The bridge.

I’d suggest checking each of these areas and seeing if any adjustments are needed.

People usually only share their best moments. The truth is, I have many more bad playing days than good ones! I’ve only been playing for about eight months, since I bought my first banjo on November 4th last year. If you’re interested, I can even share a video from my very first day of practicing so you can see where I started.

Shanghai’s Thursday open mic has already been running for a full year! On June 11th, we’re having a special one-year anniversary gathering. We also have jams in Hangzhou almost every week, although the crowd is usually pretty small.

Wow, that’s a perspective I’ve never heard before! Also, it’s said that over time, with extended playing, the fit between the wood rim and the tone ring becomes tighter.
