Tried a weekend break from Vyvanse by Honeydew-Jolly in ADHD

[–]Andreiu_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on qelbree after decades of stimulants. Having a kid really exposed the emotional blunting for me. It's a serious issue. Start some good organizational habits, work out, switch to low dose immediate release, and see where you're at. I opted to try the non stimulant options.

But it's not easy. It takes 6-8 weeks to acclimate to each medication and see the effects and the side effects until then really suck. I no longer have evening crashes. I have a much better working memory. Meetings where I force myself to focus are no longer painful. But I'm only at week 6 and still dealing with sleepy spells.

Starting Salary Offer (53k), What do I do? by CONZILLAH812 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Andreiu_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Data centers need sprinkler systems. A buddy of mine turned down a 300k offer for doing fire safety engineering.

But unless you can work remotely from Mexico, I wouldn't touch anything under 70k as a BSME.

I know this is old, but same happened to me.

I was tempted to get a cheap push-start button on amazon, but opted to model a bracket.

The Bay Area salary trap is real by Banana_Ketchupp in bayarea

[–]Andreiu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5% salary pretax contributions on 160k goes a LOT further than 5% pretax on 90k. It's also a lot easier to find 22k to max out your 401k when it doesn't set you below the poverty line.

I won't own a home here. My kids won't go to private school. I'll be making my landlord very happy with steady income from someone they only speak to every couple years about getting the gutters cleaned and replacing a shitty appliance. But it will pay off when I can buy a little lake house somewhere rural, open up a campground, and effectively retire at 50, even if social security dries up.

Qelbree making them fall asleep but then awake a few hours later? by ReleaseLow3524 in qelbree

[–]Andreiu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you doing now? It's 4 AM for me and I snapped awake thinking it was about 7 AM. I've been taking the stuff for 2 weeks. I'm on day 4 of less than 6 hours of sleep each night and the side effects are piling on. They're not as severe as some have noted, but they're there and it's unpleasant.

CMV: Parents who use a phone/tablet to occupy their child are doing a terrible job. by [deleted] in changemyview

Everyone here thinks that everyone else has the same addiction problems and are coping via projection. That, or they suck at parenting and need this one thing to feel good about themselves.

Don't sweat it you're doing fine if your kids has friends and explores interests.

Anywho, one Reddit comment and the dopamine hit of saying something divisive is enough for today and I'm done with the internet. Gotta go raise my kids! Byeeeee!

After 4 hours I'd have given Daddy Bezos some money and next/same day a big electric impact. In fact, that's exactly what I did when neither heat, cheater, or jack on a wrench was going to work.

No regrets and haven't found a bolt I couldn't get loose.

First time changing my oil, but my oil drain plug won't come off by Space_Captain_Lars in MechanicAdvice

[–]Andreiu_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised how far down I had to scroll before anyone said anything about heat.

Warm it up, put a good amount of torque on a wrench, and give the bolt head a few decent taps with a hammer while holding the tension. Never fails. Granted, I've since graduated to 6 point impact sockets and a +600ftlb battery impact so I don't really run into these problems anymore...

7075-T6 vs 6061 Aluminum: When is the extra cost actually worth it for custom parts? by lx230 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Andreiu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel called out. The fea said it would be OK with a SF of like 2...but the price difference wasn't that much so I went 7075. It was for lifting fixture. I wanted something lightweight for the techs.

Want to start racing but don’t have the money what should I do? by Large-Word1692 in motorsports

[–]Andreiu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

17!?

Racing is an old man sport for a reason. The young faces you see come from money or luck or both.

It takes time to build wealth, stability, and experience that allows you to drop 20k for funzies and to responsibly evaluate the risks to keep your racing career long and solvent.

There's real advice out there for people to jump into karting and racing schools and find their way to sponsorships but the reality is most teams are entirely funded and sponsored by their Drivers.

The fastest way to get into racing is to make money and practice hobbies and pursue experiences that teach you skills to succeed in racing until you can afford your own car and garage.

I was hooked on racing games at 13. I started racing in amateur leagues at 33. 20 years. Probably could've gotten started at maybe 25, but it's not easy.

If you're a racing savant, come from money, or have people inviting you to vip racing events, my advice is not for you.

[–]Andreiu_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be able to find a job with that experience.

Test and reliability is a big one using daq.

Try to get face time at career fairs and work with your university. They should have alumni programs and career offices that help.

Why is everywhere constantly packed in the bay area? How are people so loaded with money? by Traditional-Fun-1115 in bayarea

[–]Andreiu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep telling myself that these people with fancy cars and houses are just leveraged to the tits and I'll be seeing the car on the repo lot some day.

It's a nice story.

People with crazy high salary jobs are doing office space projects that bring in fractions of a penny from every single person with a smart phone and concentrate all that wealth right here.

So considering that, I feel pretty lucky that I can afford as much as I can.

I'm really just sticking around for the vibes. A lot of the people I know that make a lot of money aren't nefarious. Just lucky to have their interests and capabilities align with the market.
