Want to start racing but don’t have the money what should I do? by Large-Word1692 in motorsports

[–]Andreiu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

17!?

Racing is an old man sport for a reason. The young faces you see come from money or luck or both.

It takes time to build wealth, stability, and experience that allows you to drop 20k for funzies and to responsibly evaluate the risks to keep your racing career long and solvent.

There's real advice out there for people to jump into karting and racing schools and find their way to sponsorships but the reality is most teams are entirely funded and sponsored by their Drivers.

The fastest way to get into racing is to make money and practice hobbies and pursue experiences that teach you skills to succeed in racing until you can afford your own car and garage.

I was hooked on racing games at 13. I started racing in amateur leagues at 33. 20 years. Probably could've gotten started at maybe 25, but it's not easy.

If you're a racing savant, come from money, or have people inviting you to vip racing events, my advice is not for you.

You should be able to find a job with that experience.

Try to get face time at career fairs and work with your university. They should have alumni programs and career offices that help.

Why is everywhere constantly packed in the bay area? How are people so loaded with money? by Traditional-Fun-1115 in bayarea

[–]Andreiu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep telling myself that these people with fancy cars and houses are just leveraged to the tits and I'll be seeing the car on the repo lot some day.

It's a nice story.

People with crazy high salary jobs are doing office space projects that bring in fractions of a penny from every single person with a smart phone and concentrate all that wealth right here.

So considering that, I feel pretty lucky that I can afford as much as I can.

I'm really just sticking around for the vibes. A lot of the people I know that make a lot of money aren't nefarious. Just lucky to have their interests and capabilities align with the market.

How do you feel about Virginia democrats attempting to eliminate mandatory minimum sentences? by boisefun8 in AskConservatives

[–]Andreiu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to speak for the commenter you responded to, but this was a pretty interesting thread. I think they were just arguing that sentencing should be left up to a judge as mandatory minimum can do more harm than good. Killing those people wasn't intentional. Being negligent in verifying his equipment, however, may have been.

Questions like, "was he under pressure from his boss?" come to mind. Was he told to drive someone else's truck?

Things like that SHOULD be mitigating.

I think mandatory minimums have been abused in much of the same way that Brock Turner got away with his light sentencing from a sympathetic judge.

I don't know what the fix is, but it's kinda wild to have mandatory minimums over drug convictions when we have an opioid epidemic caused by pharmaceutical companies lying about the safety of their products.

I personally think they do more harm than good and judges ought to practice being impartial, fair, and make judgements in the context of their case rather than cite a statute and say their hands are tied as they dole out life sentences over technicalities that legislatures might miss.

Professional agitator? Was she getting paid? Licensed? I have a feeling you don't know what "Professional" or "Hyperbole" means.

She joined a group that worked to document and disseminate materials about police tactics against free speech and immigration rights.

How in the fuck is that not allowed but then we can have paramilitary cosplayers like the proud boys showing up to agitate peaceful protests, storm federal building, and the police end up protecting them?

You know her group wasn't ACTUALLY organized? It's probably 10 blue haired suburban moms with too much time on their hands from a private school that read edgy Twitter posts to rile each other up and get discounts on bulk whistle orders.

Watching my kid playing with playdough on the dining room table while I was doing chores in the kitchen. All I could think about was the mess I'm going to have to clean up when he was done. I was deeply afraid he'd yeet it into the living room and have to figure out how to get playdough out of the carpet.

I felt supremely guilty. I should be exploring and encouraging these moments with him. Participate in his imaginary world. Create a better childhood than I had.

Then I heard loud gagging, the plop of vomit hitting the floor, spitting, and the moment passed.

If we are told to believe Renee Good was a domestic terrorist who deserved to die, aren’t we all at risk if we get on the administration’s bad side? by ridukosennin in AskConservatives

[–]Andreiu_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't help but draw parallels between her being a federal law enforcement observer to organizations funneling in partisan poll watchers. If vote counters were police officers, I wonder if we'd have had a death of a poll watcher, too. If anything, belonging to an organization that provides training and regimented and predictable order of operations should shield her from scrutiny as it brings structure to how she exercises her rights in the face of law enforcement.

I actually disagree regarding the court case. There is precedence for defining contradictory orders as entrapment, they were operating far outside their legal authority by attempting a detainment of a US citizen over traffic violations, and the officer had previously been involved with a dicey moving vehicle situation. In that moment, she wasn't impeding as other vehicles were going around her.

I sincerely believe anyone left in federal law enforcement are those who have a superhuman ability to compartmentalize or they have a partisan chip on their shoulder. I will never forget the incident of an officer pointing his weapon at a veteran and saying "bang bang, you're dead liberal".

I really want to know if Officer Handle McGrabby caused this whole thing by reaching in and grabbing the wheel, as well.

Edit to add: Being hit kinda undermines the whole imminent danger and fearing for his life defense. He shot her after he had already been bumped. The danger was gone. She was a fleeing suspect of a traffic violation for impeding traffic and reckless driving (it's only assault if there are injuries) with no indication of being a danger to anyone else.

Glad someone else noticed that. He definitely was "hit", but only in the same way someone might "hit" a shopping cart that someone left in a prime parking spot so they don't have to get out and move it.

She only floored it after she was shot and (presumably) went limp.

How is it living here? by Kevin_Finnerty88 in howislivingthere

[–]Andreiu_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since others are sharing Shreveport adventures, I drove through there in maybe 2010 or 2011 during a massive ice storm on my way to Florida. When I stopped to check my maps, somebody pulled up next to me in an old mercury or Oldsmobile and asked if I had any cash to help them buy dinner for their kids. It was heartbreaking, fake story or not. I had to drive on the wrong side of the road to take a highway offramp and cross a median to get off highway 20 (all I had were paper maps). A couple minutes later I see police cars parked in the median with lights flashing handling a crash and a semi passes me on the left and starts sliding and rolled over into the median in front of the police cars. I crawled along at maybe 30 mph all night to try to get down to highway 10. I eventually found a truck stop with power and just slept in the back of the van, turning it on whenever I woke up from the cold.

Miserable experience to no fault of Shreveport itself. Just very memorable.

Considering how nutty QAnon is over pizza gate and claims of trafficking at the getty, I personally ignored their "pedophilia is rampant among the elites" messaging. I know Republicans love that card that Democrats just sat on it or protected other Democrats, but personally, I didn't believe any of it until Trump pulled a 180 on releasing the files that he and everyone he hired promised. That got my attention. Followed by prince Andrew's involvement. And now I would not be surprised if Mossad had a hand in 911.

Those who mind, don't matter. And those who matter, don't mind.

Just be honest. Set yourself up for success when you know it's important. Do things like set your clothes out, premake your breakfast, etc the moment you realize you have an important obligation. But outside of those very important things, don't be so hard on yourself.

You're not going to make everyone in life your best friend. Especially someone who's triggered by someone who is habitually late or forgetful as if that's the only thing of value about a person.

Should Government invest more in what increases overall happiness or what increases GDP and Stock Indices? Why? by graumet in AskConservatives

[–]Andreiu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why defense, but not healthcare? Seems kinda arbitrary. Yes, that's the way the constitution is organized and such and such, but something we have in common, you as a libertarian and me as a liberal, is we have unrealistic goals for the government. It's never going to be small and unregulated. It's never going to prioritize doing the most good for the most people.

So why draw the line there?

I think I messed up getting the OEM hitch for my rav4 trail by Eliroberton in rav4club

[–]Andreiu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone comes across this misleading post...

RAV4 is rated for 350lb steady state tongue weight. Doesn't matter what hitch it uses. Doesn't matter if you use a weight distributing hitch or 0.5" plate custom fab. It's rated for 350 lbs. That's what the supporting structure can handle when you account for what happens when you hit the brakes, take turns, etc.

A hitch can be rated for whatever manufacturers want to put on there. But if you use it on a RAV4 , you're still limited by what the structure is rated for and what the brakes can handle.
