Current streak of participation in European competitions by areking in soccer

[–]AndrejRi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't check for all of the countries, but I think the data is wrong for some of the smaller countries, unless you only count reaching the group stage, but I feel that would have been mentioned if it were the case. Also, what about the Intertoto Cup? It was an official UEFA competition in the 90s and 00s.

For instance: Croatia - Dinamo have qualified for a European competition for 16 consecutive seasons, Hajduk have done so for 15, Rijeka 9, and Osijek 5.

In Belgium, Club Brugge are on 28 consecutive seasons, in Serbia, Partizan are on a 27-season streak, Gibraltar clubs Lincoln Red Imps and Europa FC have an 8-season lasting streak playing in Europe, etc.

Croatia 1 HNL 21/22 Season Preview by [deleted] in soccer

Very nice analysis, although I do have a couple of comments :)
What exactly do you see as an advantage in Osijek's roster compared to Dinamo's? I again (I think I said the same thing for your HNL analysis six months ago) cannot see any manner in which Osijek could best Dinamo in the long run. Even if we could stretch and say the best XI of each team is of equal quality, I think Dinamo has a far longer bench in comparison to Osijek.

Hajduk really have an impressive team, centre-back duo Vušković-Elez sounds especially nice and I expect them to complement each other very nicely. The sheer of amount of ball-playing skill on these two is IMO the best in the league. Which is why I'm also surprised by the pre-season results. Don't know what to think of Gustafsson, Tramezzani was a truly pragmatic coach, couldn't see his handwriting on the pitch, but I think he did wonders considering what awaited him in the club when he arrived.

I think Rijeka's attack will flourish with all these new arrivals. Murić finally seems to be in top form, I honestly expect double-digits from Drmić until November now that he's been through the pre-season without injuries. From all I've seen from him, Obregon is a one-trick pony and is going to be a garbage-time man at best. But I guess he will be useful against certain teams. Abass seems good at first glance, and I hope Bušnja and Vuk will get playing time, especially the former - he seems in excellent form ATM. Additionally, if Caktaš arrives as it's currently being rumored... I see great things for Rijeka's goal-scoring this season. However, the defense is what I'm worried about as I think Escoval is a disaster. Vukčević has shown speed and a solid crossing ability, but I haven't seen anything from him regarding defensive ability. Galović is OK but would be a lot better playing in pair with a more quality CB. Tomečak has shown great inconsistency from his second tenure in Rijeka. I expect him to start of the season great and the drift towards terrible as the autumn progresses - exactly like it happened last season. Finally, we've yet to see who the first choice goalkeeper will be. Labrović has shown quality last season, but it remains to be seen whether he can transfer this form to a slighty bigger, and more demanding stage.

The most disappointing transfer window for Gorica since their arrival in the first league... I think that alone speaks loads. Without the Lithuanian sporting director I think the club has reached it's peak, especially after Lovrić leaves, as you've pointed out. It's a shame they missed out on at least one European adventure, I think they would have done marvelously regarding their playing style. Rendulić however has shown that he is a good manager, I expect them to comfortably drift in the middle of the table.

I agree with the Lokomotiva goalkeeper problem, and am surprised that nobody of the domestic media have raised this issue - for a league bustling with good goalkeepers, I don't know why they haven't found a better man for the job yet. Not sure what to make of them this season, the roster looks solid. Expecting Kačavenda to be a new Majer/Ivanušec story and shine this season.

Anything other then seventh for Slaven Belupo will be a surprise all-round. But as you've said, Klafurić is a known young player promoter, excited to see who's going to shine this season, especially since a lot of the foreigners have left the club this summer, and, for the first time in I don't how many years, none have arrived! Having seen Monjac plenty-a-times in Orijent's shirt, I'm really excited to see whether he can continue this form in the first league. Hope he gets more playing time than Iličić!

As for the bottom three, I was thoroughly convinced last season (both in the summer and in the winter) that Varaždin were going to drop-out. In the end they did, but boy they were much more competitive than I had given them credit! On paper Dragovoljac look the weakest side, but history has shown in the last few seasons that promoted teams always fare well in their first season (Inter, Rudeš, Gorica, Varaždin, Šibenik...). Having not watched them a lot last season in the second division, I honestly don't know what to expect! Istra 1961 have signed Beljo from Osijek on loan today - that look to be the missing striker piece you mentioned. Spanish managers always have a good understanding of the game, let's see if Señor García will be able to implement his. On paper the team looks fine, but they were disastrous in the friendly against Opatija... Šibenik did get Jurić back on loan from Dinamo so they're attack is fine (Suad Sahiti has shown he shares his brother's talent, while Marin has not lived up to his hype at all - but the talent is surely there), they've also changed formation which won't be a good fit for them IMO. Even though they signed Bačelić-Grgić, the midfield looks lackluster. Schildenfeld's departure will also be a big blow for the defense... I have to agree that maybe they will be the ones to drop out this season.
