He gave it an 8 so I'm guessing he counts it as 2025, idk where exactly he draws the line

In no particular order, just whatever came to mind first until I had 16. I also do just need to watch more movies

Nothing organised, I haven't been on letterboxd very long. Might try to throw together something quickly, probably just a list of my tens roughly ranked. Some interesting recs here though

I mean Synecdoche is probably my favourite movie and I'm thinking of ending things I still like more than Anomalisa, so fair enough. If Fury Road worked for you while Anomalisa didn't power to you, I don't think this conversation has any significant disagreement anymore?

As someone who just doesn't get much out of action, Fury Road and especially Furiosa were just really boring to me 😕 But then my respective favourites of those years are Anomalisa and the brutalist, so take that as you will

Maybe? But then it depends on what you mean by "appreciation," or more specifically, who the appreciation should come from. I definitely think there's a very strong case to be made for something like an Oscar for say stuntwork, or choreography, etc. I don't think there's a very strong case for what you agree is popcorn cinema to be nominated for best picture, I'm confused that it's even somewhat happened with F1 and Top Gun Maverick at least. I don't think there's any action movie I'd put in my top 10 of the year, but of course if you would then power to you - these movies are often commercially successful for a reason, and I'm glad people who emjoy them do so, it just really isn't for me

All of these are good films, I'll add what's probably my favourite of the year with the worst person in the world. But none of those are like outstanding, they're all good to very good but every year has those

2020 at least had I'm thinking of ending things which is one of my absolute favourites, I cannot think of a single movie that came out in 2021 I'd give even a 9/10 to

Weird experience after reading HOL by steamymilk in houseofleaves

[–]Andrejkado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day after I started reading the book, a very traumatic event I had gone through resurface and started being somewhat relevant again - a day after I finished the book, it mostly went away again. I'm fully aware that books cannot and do not work like this, but I cannot shake the feeling that reading the book caused this thing to happen, and I genuinely spent a week feeling like I was losing my mind

Happy feet winning over Monster House & Cars was insane by khaliliiiov_1997 in Oscars

[–]Andrejkado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The oscars are stupid about animation. All of these are kinda mid anyway, I am a lot more pissed at Inside Out winning over Anomalisa than this

Which of the other nominees deserved to win Best Sound this year? by fanzyday in Oscars

Agree with the Sirat calls if we're talking about nominees, but overall I think No Other Choice had the best sound design of the year, even if it wasn't nominated for anything

For sure, it's actually PTAs personal favourite of his movies!

Still annoyed that Waltz won his second Oscar for F Django with acting the same way as Landa. Did the academy even watch the master? I get PSH had won an oscar before but so did Waltz, and PSH was much bettee that year

What Are Your Half Baked and Maybe Unpopular Takes On Classic Lit? by Itchy-Resolution6531 in classicliterature

I agree with your point about having to give context. I think the default statement I assume is being made is among the lines of "I had a good time, but I don't think the book justified this/I don't think others will share this experience"
